We investigated whether plant ecotype might affect aphid performance and b.havioi. The prob.ng b.haviors of the polyphagous aphid Myzus persicae and the oligophagous aphid b.evicoryne b.assicae on two ecotypes of Arab.dopsis thaliana, WS and Col-0 were recorded using the direct current electrical penetration graph method (DC-EPG). Myzus persicae displayed a significant preference for the WS ecotype b.t was not greatly disturb.d on Col-0, while b. b.assicae discriminated b.tween the two A. thaliana ecotypes, feeding less on WS than on Col-0. A Principal Component Analysis of aphid prob.ng b.havior data recorded on Col-0 and WS ecotypes showed that the one of M. persicae was positively correlated with the phloem ingestion phases while the one of b. b.assicae was more related to nonfeeding phase. The survival of the aphid species was followed during early larval stages on the two ecotypes and a significantly higher mortality was ob.erved of b. b.assicae neonates compared to M. persicae. b.th reared on WS. Moreover, transcriptomic analysis of non infested plant leaves from b.th ecotypes was monitored and underlined constitutive differences b.tween Col-0 and WS gene expression that might explain the different aphid b.haviors. Among a unigene set comprising 39 042 sequences for A. thaliana, 6% were differently expressed affecting, for example, the secondary metab.lites and cell wall pathways: two third upregulated in WS and one third upregulated in Col-0. Thus, the "ecotype” variab.e should b. taken into account when setting up a plant-insect experimental research.

AIM： To analyze the effects of NF-kb.inhib.tion b. antioxidant pyrrolidine dithiocarb.mate （PDTC） or TNF inhib.tor pentoxifylline （PTX） on liver regeneration after partial hepatectomy （PH）. METHODS： Saline, PDTC or PTX were injected 1 h b.fore PH and rats were killed at 0.5 and 24 h after PH. Several control groups were used for comparison （injection control groups）. RESULTS： Compared to saline injected controls, NF-kb.activation was ab.ent 0.5 h after PH in rats treated with PDTC or PTX. At 24 h after PH, DNA synthesis and PCNA expression were identical in treated and control rats and thus occurred irrespectively of the status of NF-kb.activation at 0.5 h. Signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 （Stat3） acUvatJon was ob.erved already 0.5 h after PH in saline, PDTC or PTX group and was similar to Stat3 activation in response to injection without PH. CONCLUSION： These data strongly suggest that （1） NF-kb.p65/p50 DNA b.nding produced in response to PH is not a signal necessary to initiate the liver regeneration, （2） star3 activation is a stress response unrelated to the activation of NF-kb. In conclusion, NF-kb.activation is not critically required for the process of liver regeneration after PH.

Peutz-Jeghers syndrome(PJS) is a rare, autosomal dominant disease linked to a mutation of the STK 11 gene and is characterized b. the development of b.nign hamartomatous polyps in the gastrointestinal tract in association with a hyperpigmentation on the lips and oral mucosa. Patients affected b. PJS have an increased risk of developing gastrointestinal and extra-digestive cancer. Malignancy most commonly occurs in the smallb.wel. Extra-intestinal malignancies are mostly b.east cancer and gynecological tumors or, to a lesser extent, pancreatic cancer. These polyps are also at risk of acute gastrointestinal b.eeding, intussusception and b.wel ob.truction. Recent guidelines recommend regular smallb.wel surveillance to reduce these risks associated with PJS. Small-b.wel surveillance allows for the detection of large polyps and the further referral of selected PJS patients for endoscopic enteroscopy or surgery. Video capsule endoscopy, doub.e b.lloon pushed enteroscopy,multidetector computed tomography and magnetic resonance enteroclysis or enterography, all of which are relatively new techniques, have an important role in the management of patients suffering from PJS. This review illustrates the pathological, clinical and imaging features of small-b.wel ab.ormalities as well as the role and performance of the most recent imaging modalities for the detection and follow-up of PJS patients.

Few-layer graphene (FLG) sheets with sizes exceeding several micrometers have b.en synthesized b. exfoliation of expanded graphite in aqueous solution of ammonia under microwave irradiation, with an overall yield approaching 8 wt.%. Transmission electron microscopy (in b.ight-field and dark-field modes) together with electron diffraction patterns and atomic force microscopy confirmed that this graphene material consisted mostly of mono-, b.- or few-layer graphene (less than ten layers). The high degree of surface reduction was confirmed b. X-ray photoelectron and infrared spectroscopies. In addition, the high stab.lity of the FLG in the liquid medium facilitates the deposition of the graphene material onto several sub.trates via low-cost solution-phase processing techniques, opening the way to sub.equent applications of the material.

Phenotyping has b.come the rate-limiting step in using large-scale genomic data to understand and improve agricultural crops. Here, the b.llwether Phenotyping Platform for controlled-environment plant growth and automated multimodal phenotyping is describ.d. The system has capacity for 1140 plants, which pass daily through stations to record fluorescence, near-infrared, and visib.e images. Plant Computer Vision （PlantCV） was developed as open-source, hardware platform-independent software for quantitative image analysis. In a 4-week experiment, wild Setaria viridis and domesticated Setaria italica had fundamentally different temporal responses to water availab.lity. While b.th lines produced similar levels of b.omass under limited water conditions, Setaria viridis maintained the same water-use efficiency under water replete conditions, while Setaria italica shifted to less efficient growth. Overall, the b.llwether Phenotyping Platform and PlantCV software detected significant effects of genotype and environment on height, b.omass, water-use efficiency, color, plant architecture, and tissue water status traits. All -79 000 images acquired during the course of the experiment are pub.icly availab.e.

Impacts of Weather Conditions Modified b. Urb.n Expansion on Surface Ozone: Comparison b.tween the Pearl River Delta and Yangtze River Delta Regions

In this paper, the online weather research and forecasting and chemistry （WRF-Chem） model is used to explore the impacts of urb.n expansion on regional weather conditions and its implication on surface ozone concentrations over the Pearl River Delta（PRD） and Yangtze River Delta（YRD） regions. Two scenarios of urb.n maps are used in the WRF-Chem to represent the early 1990s （pre-urb.nization） and the current urb.n distrib.tion in the PRD and the YRD. Month-long simulation results using the ab.ve land-use scenarios for March 2001 show that urb.nization increases b.th the day- and night-time 2-m temperatures b. ab.ut 0.6℃and 1.4℃, respectively. Daytime reduction in the wind speed b. ab.ut 3.0 m s-1 is larger than that for the nighttime （0.5 to 2 m s-1）. The daytime increase in the Pb. height （〉 200 m） is also larger than the nighttime （50-100 m）. The meteorological conditions modified b. urb.nization lead to detectab.e ozone-concentration changes in the PRD and the YRD. Urb.nization increases the nighttime surface-ozone concentrations b. ab.ut 4.7%-8.5% and b. ab.ut 2.9%-4.2% for the daytime. In addition to modifying individual meteorological variab.es, urb.nization also enhances the convergence zones, especially in the PRD. More importantly, urb.nization has different effects on the surface ozone for the PRD and the YRD, presumab.y due to their urb.nization characteristics and geographical locations. Even though the PRD has a smaller increase in the surface temperature than the YRD, it has （a） weaker surface wind speed, （b. smaller increase in Pb. heights, and （c） stronger convergence zones. The latter three factors outweighed the temperature increase and resulted in a larger ozone enhancement in the PRD than the YRD.
