Spinal cord injury remains a major cause of disability in young adults,and beyond acute decompression and rehabilitation,there are no pharmacological treatments to limit the progression of injury and optimize recovery in this *** the thorough investigation of the complement system in triggering and propagating cerebral neuroinflammation,a similar role for complement in spinal neuroinflammation is a focus of ongoing *** this work,we survey the current literature investigating the role of complement in spinal cord injury including the sources of complement proteins,triggers of complement activation,and role of effector functions in the *** study relevant data demonstrating the different triggers of complement activation after spinal cord injury including direct binding to cellular debris,and or activation via antibody binding to damage-associated molecular *** effector functions of complement have been implicated in spinal cord injury,and we critically evaluate recent studies on the dual role of complement anaphylatoxins in spinal cord injury while emphasizing the lack of pathophysiological understanding of the role of opsonins in spinal cord *** this pathophysiological review,we systematically review the different translational approaches used in preclinical models of spinal cord injury and discuss the challenges for future translation into human *** review emphasizes the need for future studies to dissect the roles of different complement pathways in the pathology of spinal cord injury,to evaluate the phases of involvement of opsonins and anaphylatoxins,and to study the role of complement in white matter degeneration and regeneration using translational strategies to supplement genetic models.

A new freshwater rotifer Cephalodella changdensis *** in two locations in Changde,Hunan,China,is described *** new species is characterized by body shape moderately elongate,double eyespots frontally,toes conical and almost straight,about one fourth of total length,trophi type B(classification after Wulfert,1937),rami asymmetrical with a pair of long alulae,fulcrum inverted T-shaped(ventral/dorsal view)with dorsally directed distal projection(lateral view),and manubria asymmetrical,left one slightly longer and stronger,with J-shaped or crutch-shaped posterior ends.

The Learning Science of Multi-Peer Feedback for EFL Students

Peer feedback is found to positively influence student learning and achievement. despite concerns from learners and teachers, it is increasingly being used successfully in ESL and EFL writing classrooms. To help teachers and researchers understand the application of peer feedback, this paper presents a new theory based on the learning sciences for why all students, even beginning EFL students, can meaningfully participate in peer feedback. It highlights the importance of feedback that is carefully structured for maximal impact. Further, it introduces the idea of the Persuasive Zone of Competence: Students are generally sufficiently competent to address performance problems among their peers, and multi-peer feedback tends to be especially persuasive. We conclude with suggestions for how to maximize the learning potentials in peer feedback in EFL/ESL writing classrooms.

Epidermal Patterning Genes Impose Non‐cell Autonomous Cell Size determination and have Additional Roles in Root Meristem Size Control

The regulation of cellular growth is of vital importance for embryonic and postembryonic patterning. Growth regulation in the epidermis has importance for organ growth rates in roots and shoots, proposing epidermal cells as an interesting model for cellular growth regulation. Here we assessed whether the root epidermis is a suitable model system to address cell size determination. In Arabidopsis thaliana L., root epidermal cells are regularly spaced in neighbouring tricho-（root hair） and atrichoblast （non-hair） cells, showing already distinct cell size regulation in the root meristem. We determined cell sizes in the root meristem and at the onset of cellular elongation, revealing that not only division rates but also cellular shape is distinct in tricho-and atrichoblasts. Intriguingly, epidermal-patterning mutants, failing to define differential vacuolization in neighbouring epidermal cell files, also display non-differential growth. Using these epidermal-patterning mutants, we show that polarized growth behaviour of epidermal tricho-and atrichoblast is interdependent, suggesting non-cell autonomous signals to integrate tissue expansion. Besides the interweaved cell-type-dependent growth mechanism, we reveal an additional role for epidermal patterning genes in root meristem size and organ growth regulation. We conclude that epidermal cells represent a suitable model system to study cell size determination and interdependent tissue growth.
