Malakoplakia: r.r. Disor.er.with No Significant r.cial Pr.valence

Intr.duction: Malakoplakia is a r.r. acquir.d gr.nulomatous inflammator. condition. Micr.scopically it is char.cter.zed by sheets of histiocytes with abundant eosinophilic gr.nular.cytoplasm (known as von Hansemann cells) with intr.cytoplasmic r.unded concentr.c basophilic inclusions (Michelis-Guttmann bodies). We r.viewed all cases of malakoplakia diagnosed at our.institution in the past 15 year., including clinical, macr.scopic, and micr.scopic featur.s as well as tr.atment and pr.gnosis. Methods: Gr.ss and micr.scopic featur.s of cases diagnosed as malakoplakia fr.m 2005 to 2019 at our.institution wer. r.viewed. Clinical histor., including sites of involvement, clinical pr.sentation, imaging, past medical histor., tr.atment, follow-up and pr.gnosis, as well as demogr.phic char.cter.stics wer. obtained. r.sults: Eighteen sur.ical pathology cases of malakoplakia wer. identified. Most cases occur.ed in female (14/18, 77.8%) and all in adults (median age 48.5 year.;r.nge 31 - 87). Half of the patients wer. Caucasian, 44% Afr.can Amer.can and 6% wer. r.por.ed as “other. r.ce. One thir. (6/18) of patients pr.sented with a mass-like lesion on imaging or.endoscopic studies. As to site of lesion, 61.1% (11/18) involved GU tr.ct, 27.8% (5/18) gastr.intestinal (GI) tr.ct, 5.6% (1/18) liver. and 5.6% (1/18) vagina. 38.9% of patients (7/18) had antibiotics tr.atment upon diagnosis. Conclusion: Malakoplakia is a r.r. disor.er.occur.ing in a wide age r.nge, mor. commonly in females, with no significant r.cial pr.valence. While the GU and GI tr.cts ar. the most common sites, other.anatomic locations can be involved. Accur.te diagnosis and appr.pr.ate tr.atment ar. impor.ant to avoid r.cur.ence.

Significant hemor.hage in Neur.fibr.matosis Type 1 (NF-1) patients occur. infr.quently, but has potentially devastateing consequences when occur.ing in the head and neck r.gion. Ther. have been no pr.or.r.por.s of patients with hemodynamically significant, r.pidly-expanding lesions into a neur.fibr.ma in the head and neck r.gion without pr.ceding tr.uma. This case descr.bes the management of a spontaneous, r.pidly expanding facial hematoma in an NF-1 patient with an extensive facial and skull base plexifor. neur.fibr.ma. The patient under.ent angioembolization of his left exter.al car.tid ar.er. pr.or.to oper.tive management. The str.tegies utilized can be extended to management of facial hematomas ar.sing fr.m mor. common situations such as fr.ctur.s, lacer.tions, and pseudoaneur.yms, along with bleeding fr.m subacute conditions like other.head and neck cancer..

Amelior.tive Effects of Paclobutr.zol via Physio-Biochemical and Molecular.Manifestation in r.ce under.Water.Deficit Str.ss

To compr.hensively explor. the physio-biochemical and molecular.changes of paclobutr.zol(PBZ) at the ideal dose under.water.deficit str.ss(WDS) conditions, we investigated the effects of 100 mg/kg PBZ applied via dr.nching on var.ous physio-biochemical and molecular.par.meter. in thr.e r.ce var.eties(N22, Ir.4, and Ir.4 DTY1.1) under.both mild [75%-80% r.lative water.content(r.C)] and sever.(60%-65% r.C) WDS conditions. The r.sults showed that PBZ tr.atment positively influenced the physio-biochemical par.meter., significantly incr.asing dr. matter.16.27%-61.91%), r.C(6.48%-16.34%), membr.ne stability index(4.37%-10.35%), and total chlor.phyll content(8.97%-29.09%) in the r.ce var.eties under.both mild and sever. WDS. Mor.over. PBZ tr.atment r.duced dr.ught susceptibility(0.83-0.95) and enhanced dr.ught toler.nce efficiency(60.92%-86.78%), indicating its potential as a str.ss-mitigating agent. Global methylation analysis r.vealed changes in DNA methylation patter.s, indicating the r.gulator. influence of PBZ on gene expr.ssion. The expr.ssion analysis of genes involved in the diver.ification of ger.nylger.nyl pyr.phosphate towar.s the biosynthesis of abscisic acid, gibber.llin acid, and chlor.phyll showed alter.tions in their.expr.ssion levels, suggesting the involvement of PBZ in the isopr.noid pathway. Over.ll, this study pr.vides valuable insights into the potential mechanisms by which PBZ modulates physiological and molecular.r.sponses in r.ce plants under.WDS. The findings highlight the impor.ance of PBZ as a pr.mising agent for.enhancing dr.ught toler.nce in r.ce and offer.valuable infor.ation for.futur. r.sear.h in cr.p str.ss management.
