Dietary supplementation of dried plum:a novel strategy to mitigate heat stress in broiler chickens

Background:Heat stress is a significant problem in the poultry industry,causing a severe economic loss due to its detrimental effects on chickens’health and *** plum(DP)is a good source of minerals,vitamins,antioxidants,and phenolic *** have suggested that DP has several health benefits,such as maintaining the body’s redox system,immune status,and calcium *** on the health benefits of DP,we hypothesized that the dietary supplementation of DP would alleviate the detrimental effects of heat stress on broiler ***:To test the hypothesis,day-old broiler chicks(n=72)were randomly allocated to three treatment groups(n=24/group):no heat stress(nHS),heat stress(HS),and heat stress with dried plum(HS+DP),and reared under standard *** inclusion of 2.5%DP in the feed of the HS+DP group was made during the treatment period,while birds in other groups were provided with a standard finisher *** 21 days,birds in the HS and HS+DP groups were exposed to cyclic heat stress conditions(33℃ for 8 h during daytime)for 3 weeks,while those in the nHS group were reared under normal conditions(22-24℃).Weekly body weight and feed intake were recorded to calculate the average daily gain(ADG),average daily feed intake(ADFI),and feed conversion ratio(FCR).Heat stress significantly decreased the final body weight,ADG,ADFI,and increased FCR compared to the nHS group,whereas dietary supplementation of DP significantly improved these growth performance parameters compared to the HS ***,supplementation of DP significantly increased the expression of heat shock protein-related genes(HSF1,HSF3,HSP70,and HSP90),antioxidant-related genes(SOD1,SOD2,GPX1,GPX3,PRDX1,and TXn),tight junction-related genes(CLDn1,and OCLn),and immune-related genes(IL4,MUC2)in the ileum as compared to the HS *** microbiota analysis showed significant enrichment of Bacillales,Christensenellaceae,Bacillaceae,Peptostreptococcaceae,and Anaerot

热休克蛋白70(heat shock protein 70, HSP70)在生物细胞或组织免受热或氧化应激等方面起着关键作用,是已知高度保守的蛋白质之一。由于全球环境持续升温,珊瑚大面积白化、死亡,珊瑚如何应对持续升温的抗逆机制是科学研究热点。本研究从高温胁迫短指软珊瑚测序蛋白序列数据库分析鉴定出了28个HSP70蛋白家族成员,均为酸性亲水蛋白,大部分蛋白质结构较为稳定。亚细胞定位表明HSP70蛋白主要分布在珊瑚细胞核、细胞质中,在线粒体、内质网上也有少量分布。信号肽预测表明, 28个HSP70蛋白成员中26个没有信号肽,大部分不属于分泌蛋白,不存在跨膜结构。系统进化树结果表明短指软珊瑚HSP70蛋白家族成员聚成5大类。短指软珊瑚HSP70蛋白家族结构和保守基序分析中预测到了10条保守基序motif分为5个亚族。短指软珊瑚HSP70蛋白家族二级结构主要以α-螺旋和无规则卷曲为主,α-螺旋的含量占比大。28个HSP70家族蛋白中有25个预测到了n-糖基化位点,且位点个数在1~9范围内。28个HSP70家族蛋白均预测到磷酸化位点和O-糖基化位点,总个数分别在41~96和1~23范围内。本研究HSP70家族蛋白结果为今后珊瑚在应对全球升温胁迫中的适应机制等方面研究奠定了基础。

Outcomes of a non-randomised audit of single pigtail suture stents in urolithiasis management of Asian patients in Singapore

Atherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease that is characterized by the build-up of lipid-rich plaques in the arterial walls. The standard treatment for patients with atherosclerosis is statin therapy aimed to lower serum lipid levels. Despite its widespread use, many patients taking statins continue to experience acute events. Thus, to develop improved and alternative therapies, we previously reported on microRnA-145 (miR-145 micelles) and its ability to inhibit atherosclerosis by targeting vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs). Importantly, one dose of miR-145 micelles significantly abrogated disease progression when evaluated two weeks post-administration. Thus, in this study, to evaluate how long the sustained effects of miR-145 micelles can be maintained and towards identifying a dosing regimen that is practical for patients with chronic disease, the therapeutic effects of a single dose of miR-145 micelles were evaluated for up to two months in vivo. After one and two months post-treatment, miR-145 micelles were found to reduce plaque size and overall lesion area compared to all other controls including statins without causing adverse effects. Furthermore, a single dose of miR-145 micelle treatment inhibited VSMC transdifferentiation into pathogenic macrophage-like and osteogenic cells in plaques. Together, our data shows the long-term efficacy and sustained effects of miR-145 micelles that is amenable using a dosing frequency relevant to chronic disease patients.

A novel 1×2 Thermo-Optic Multimode Interference Switch Structure Based on Photodefinable Benzocyclobutene （BCB 4024-40） Polymer on Silica

A novel 1× 2 multimode interference photonics switch structure based on thermal controlling effect is proposed. A ridge waveguide of photosensitive polymer, benzocyclobutene （BCB 4024-40） on silica clad is used as a design structure. A temperature changes as a result of electrode heating are analysed by employing a two-dimensional finite difference thermal model considering both conduction and convection mechanisms. The switching characteristics due to changes in effective index are analysed by the two-dimensional finite difference beam propagation method with transparent boundary condition. The proposed structure works well with low crosstalk level of -28 dB and low switching power relatively to the structural upper cladding thickness.

Approximate graphical method of solving Fermi level and majority carrier density of semiconductors with multiple donors and multiple acceptors

We present a generic approximate graphical method for determining the equilibrium Fermi level and majority carrier density of a semiconductor with multiple donors and multiple acceptors compensating each other. Simple and easy-to-follow procedures of the graphical method are *** graphically plotting two wrapping step functions facing each other,one for the positive hole-ionized donor and one for the negative electron-ionized acceptor,we have the crossing point that renders the Fermi level and majority carrier *** the graphical method,new equations are derived,such as the carrier compensation proportional to n;/n;,not the widely quoted n;-n;.Visual insight is offered to view not only the result of graphic determination of Fermi level and majority carrier density but also the dominant and critical pair of donors and acceptors in *** graphical method presented in this work will help to guide the design,adjustment,and improvement of the multiply doped *** of this approximate graphical method with previous work on compensation,and with some experimental results,is *** work in the field is proposed.

Use of the Endocuff during routine colonoscopy examination improves adenoma detection: A meta-analysis

AIM To perform meta-analysis of the use of Endocuff during average risk screening *** Scopus, Cochrane databases, MEDLInE/Pub Med, and CInAHL were searched in April 2016. Abstracts from Digestive Disease Week, United European Gastroenterology, and the American College of Gastroenterology meeting were also searched from 2004-2015. Studies comparing EC-assisted colonoscopy(EAC) to standard colonoscopy, for any indication, were included in the analysis. The analysis was conducted by using the Mantel-Haenszel or DerS imonian and Laird models with the odds ratio(OR) to assess adenoma detection, cecal intubation rate, and complications performed. RESULTS nine studies(n = 5624 patients) were included in the analysis. Compared to standard colonoscopy, procedures performed with EC had higher frequencies for adenoma(OR = 1.49, 95%CI: 1.23-1.80; P = 0.03), and sessile serrated adenomas detection(OR = 2.34 95%CI: 1.63-3.36; P no significant difference in cecal intubation rates between the EACgroup and standard colonoscopy(OR = 1.26, 95%CI: 0.70-2.27, I2 = 0%; P = 0.44). EAC was associated with a higher risk of complications, most commonly being superficial mucosal injury without higher frequency for *** The use of an EC on colonoscopy appears to improve pre-cancerous polyp detection without any difference in cecal intubation rates compared to standard colonoscopy.
