Strength of Thin-Walled Lipped Channel Section Columns with Shell-Shaped Curved Grooves

Thin-walled member is structurally superior to a construction member. However, by reason of complexity in structure the stress and the deformation to yield the cross section are complicated. Specially, in case thin-walled members, such as thin-walled channel section columns, which are subjected to compressive force, these members produce the local buckling, distortional buckling and overall buckling. A number of experimental and theoretical investigations subjected to axial compressive force are generated for thin-walled channel section columns with triangle-shaped folded groove by Hancock [1] and with complex edge stiffeners and web stiffeners by Wang [2]. In case thin-walled channel section column with folded groove which is subjected to axial compressive force, it is cleared that the buckling mode shapes are ordinarily generated for local buckling mode shape of plate-panel composing cross section of member in short member aspect ratio and overall buckling mode shape as column and distortional buckling mode shape interacting between local buckling and overall buckling similarly normal thin-walled member. It is cleared analytically and experimentally that buckling strength and critical strength of thin-walled channel section column with folded groove can increase sharply in comparison with that of normal thin-walled member composing only plate-panel. In this paper a new cross section of shell-shaped curved groove [3] was proposed instead of the thin-walled lipped channel section column with triangle- and rectangle-shaped folded grooves used ordinarily, and therefore the comparison and the examination of buckling strength and buckling behavior were generated in the case of preparing triangle-shaped folded and shell-shaped curved grooves to web and flange of thin-walled channel section column. It has cleared that the effects of grazing on vegetation mitigated according to the distance from *** plant indicators of grazing intensity such as Stipa grandis increased in dominance with distance from site-00,whereas positive indicators of grazing intensity,such as Cleistogenens squarrosa *** in growth parameters along the environmental gradients were reflected on NDVI（Normalized Difference Vegetation Index）,in which NDVI was positively correlated with the aboveground biomass（r = 0.77）,plant height（r = 0.69） and coverage（r = 0.89）, *** results suggested that a spectral vegetation index is effective for the detection of the degradation in free grazing grassland.

Impact of laparoscopic liver resection on bleeding complications in patients receiving antithrombotics

To assess the impact of laparoscopic liver resection (LLR) on surgical blood loss (SBL), especially in patients with antithrombotics for thromboembolic risks. METHODSConsecutive 258 patients receiving liver resection at our institution between 2010 and 2016 were retrospectively reviewed. Preoperative antithrombotic therapy (ATT; antiplatelets and/or anticoagulation) was regularly used in 100 patients (ATT group, 38.8%) whereas not used in 158 (non-ATT group, 61.2%). Our perioperative management of high thromboembolic risk patients included maintenance of preoperative aspirin monotherapy for patients with antiplatelet therapy and bridging heparin for patients with anticoagulation. In both ATT and non-ATT groups, outcome variables of patients undergoing LLR were compared with those of patients receiving open liver resection (OLR), and the independent risk factors for increased SBL were determined by multivariate analysis. RESULTSThis series included 77 LLR and 181 OLR. There were 3 thromboembolic events (1.2%) in a whole cohort, whereas increased SBL (≥ 500 mL) and postoperative bleeding complications (BCs) occurred in 66 patients (25.6%) and 8 (3.1%), respectively. Both in the ATT and non-ATT groups, LLR was significantly related to reduced SBL and low incidence of BCs, although LLR was less performed as anatomical resection. Multivariate analysis showed that anatomical liver resection was the most significant risk factor for increased SBL [risk ratio (RR) = 6.54, P < 0.001] in the whole cohort, and LLR also had the significant negative impact (RR = 1/10.0, P < 0.001). The same effects of anatomical resection (RR = 15.77, P < 0.001) and LLR (RR = 1/5.88, P = 0.019) were observed when analyzing the patients in the ATT group. CONCLUSIONLLR using the two-surgeon technique is feasible and safely performed even in the ATT-burdened patients with thromboembolic risks. Development of a Novel Penetration-Enhancing Agent for Hair Products

HAIRCARECUBETM (HCC) is a new additive for hair products that allows the active ingredient to penetrate into the hair. During the course of percutaneous absorption studies, we discovered that lyotropic liquid crystal promotes the skin’s absorptiveness to medicines. We conducted a study to determine whether or not lyotropic liquid crystal could be applied as a penetration-enhancing agent in hair, and as a result we have succeeded in developing HCC. In place of hair dye, we used fluorescein-HCC to evaluate hair permeability, and strong fluorescence was observed as deep as the core of the hair. Moreover, the strength of the fluorescence was dependent on HCC concentration. This result did not change under acidic or basic conditions. In addition, the same trends were observed when using an oxidative hair dye. Furthermore, when HCC was used together with hydrolyzed keratin, which repairs hair damage, a stronger restorative effect was observed. These results confirmed that HCC has the effect of promoting the permeation of pigments and other active ingredients into hair. HCC is expected to be very useful as an additive for developing functional cosmetic hair products.

Kuwaiti oil production faces a growing challenge in the increasing quantities of produced water generated in the production of oil. The high water cut of the produced fluid from the wells and the high salinity of the produced water lead to significant degradation of subsurface equipment, specifically the production tubing. Debris generated through the degradation of the inner part of the tubing becomes a constituent of the scaling that deposits in the tubing and blocks the flow of the production fluid, inducing higher maintenance costs. This paper looks at the characteristics of the scaling in regard to the produced water and outlines the economic impact of the produced water induced degradation of the tubing structure.

Diaphragmatic Plication for Patients with Acute Phase Phrenic Nerve Paralysis Following Lung Transplantation: A Case Report

Phrenic nerve injury can occur as a complication of lung transplantation. A 54-year-old man underwent single-lung transplantation due to interstitial pneumonia. The patient required circulatory support with venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation and was unable to be weaned from ventilatory support with nitric oxide. Although enhanced CT scanning showed stenotic anastomosis of the right pulmonary artery (PA), pulmonary angiograph findings revealed that PA flow was normal under sedation and considerably decreased with spontaneous breathing. Fluoroscopy showed that the right diaphragm moved inversely to the position of the left diaphragm, indicating that the right phrenic nerve was paralytic. We performed diaphragmatic plication 7 days after lung transplantation and weaning from ventilator support was accomplished soon thereafter. Phrenic nerve dysfunction is an important clinical problem following lung transplantation. In the present case, diaphragmatic plication was effective for treatment of circulatory failure due to phrenic nerve paralysis even in acute phase after lung transplantation.

BACKGROUND Colorectal cancer(CRC) is an important disease worldwide, accounting for the second highest number of cancer-related deaths and the third highest number of new cancer cases. The blood test is a simple and minimally invasive diagnostic test. However, there is currently no blood test that can accurately diagnose *** To develop a comprehensive, spontaneous, minimally invasive, label-free, bloodbased CRC screening technique based on Raman *** We used Raman spectra recorded using 184 serum samples obtained from patients undergoing colonoscopies. Patients with malignant tumor histories as well as those with cancers in organs other than the large intestine were excluded. Consequently, the specific diseases of 184 patients were CRC(12), rectal neuroendocrine tumor(2), colorectal adenoma(68), colorectal hyperplastic polyp(18), and others(84). We used the 1064-nm wavelength laser for excitation. The power of the laser was set to 200 *** Use of the recorded Raman spectra as training data allowed the construction of a boosted tree CRC prediction model based on machine learning. Therefore, the generalized R^2 values for CRC, adenomas, hyperplastic polyps, and neuroendocrine tumors were 0.9982, 0.9630, 0.9962, and 0.9986, *** For machine learning using Raman spectral data, a highly accurate CRC prediction model with a high R^2 value was constructed. We are currently planning studies to demonstrate the accuracy of this model with a large amount of additional data.
