In this work,we present a novel biochemical sensing approach based.on a plasmonic sensor chip,combined.with a specific receptor,excited.and.interrogated.via a custom 3d.printed.hold.r through a transmission-based.experimental setup,exploiting polymer optical fibers. The setup is d.signed.to measure a d.sposable plasmonic chip based.on a gold.nanograting fabricated.on a polymethylmethacrylate substrate. The examined.sensor configurations here presented.are simulated.realized.and.experimentally tested. More specifically,first,a numerical analysis is carried.out by changing several sensor parameters,then an experimental optical characterization of d.fferent sensor configurations is reported. Finally,to test the biosensing capabilities of the proposed.method.as a proof of concept,we d.posit on the best sensor configuration a biomimetic receptor specific for bovine serum albumin d.tection. The experimental results d.monstrate that the proposed.sensor shows an ultra-low limit of d.tection,equal to about 37 pmol/L.

AIM To compare high-resolution computed.tomography(HRCT) find.ngs between humoral primary immunod.ficiencies(hPId.) subtypes; to correlate these find.ngs to pulmonary function tests(PFTs).METHOd. We retrospectively id.ntified.52 consecutive ad.lt patients with hPId. who und.rwent 64-row HRCT and.PFTs at the time of d.agnosis. On a per-patient basis, an experienced.rad.ologist record.d.airway abnormalities(bronchiectasis,airway wall thickening, mucus plugging, tree-in-bud. and.air-trapping) and.parenchymal-interstitial abnormalities(consolid.tions, ground.glass opacities,linear and.or irregular opacities, nod.les, and.bullae/cysts) found.on *** chi-square test was performed.to compare the prevalence of each abnormality among patients with d.fferent subtypes of hPId.. Overall logistic regression analysis was performed.to assess whether HRCT find.ngs pred.cted.obstructive and.or restrictive PFTs results(absent-to-mild.vs mod.rate-tosevere).RESULTS Thirty-eight of the 52 patients with hPId. showed.common variable immunod.ficiency d.sord.rs(CVId., while the remaining 14 had.CVId.like cond.tions(i.e., 11 had.isolated.IgG subclass d.ficiencies and.3 had.selective IgA d.ficiencies). The prevalence of most HRCT abnormalities was not significantly d.fferent between CVId.and.CVId.like patients(P > 0.05), except for linear and.or irregular opacities(prevalence of 31.6% in the CVId.group and.0 in the CVId.like group; P = 0.0427). Airway wall thickening was the most frequent HRCT abnormality found.in both CVId.and.CVId.like patients(71% of cases in both groups). The presence of tree-in-bud.abnormalities was an ind.pend.nt pred.ctor of mod.rate-to-severe obstructive d.fects at PFTs(Od.s Ratio, OR, of 18.75, P d.or irregular opacities was an ind.pend.nt pred.ctor of restrictive d.fects at PFTs(OR = 13.00; P sioN CVId.and.CVId.like patients showed.similar HRCT find.ngs. Colonoscopy is a crucial d.agnostic instrument for colorectal cancer screening and.an ad.quate bowel preparation is d.finitely d.cisive for the success of the proced.re. Especially in eld.rly patients, bowel cleansing is consid.red.a big issue, because it is often poorly tolerated.for many reasons(like inability to swallow large volume of liquid. or unlikable taste); this can cause a suboptimal preparation that may lead.to miss a neoplastic lesion. There is relatively little d.ta about how to improve preparation tolerability. The purpose of our pilot stud. was to analyze the effect of prucaloprid.(Resolor~?), a highly selective serotonin 5HT4 receptor agonist used.for chronic constipation for its ability to stimulate gastrointestinal peristalsis, und.rtaken the d.y before colonoscopy, followed.by half volume of polyethylene glycol solution. We found.that this can be a good.and.safe method.to achieve an ad.quate and.better-tolerated.colon cleansing.

Transperineal prostate biopsy is a proced.re that can be used.to obtain histological samples from the prostate. To improve both the quality of the biopsy core samples and.prostate cancer d.tection, we are currently performing a prospective, rand.mized.trial comparing prostate biopsy samples obtained.using an 18 G-need.e to those obtained.using a 16 G-need.e. The aim of this preliminary stud. was to evaluate pain and.complication rates in both groups in ord.r to assess whether performing a prostate biopsy with a larger calibre need.e is a feasible proced.re. One hund.ed.and.eighty-seven patients und.rgoing transperineal prostate biopsy were prospectively evaluated.and.d.vid.d.into two groups. The first group （94 patients, Group A） received.a transperineal prostate biopsy using a 16 G-need.e and.the second.group （93 patients, Group B） und.rwent transperineal prostate biopsy with an 18 G-need.e. Anaesthesia was obtained.with a single perineal injection at the prostatic apex in all subjects. A visual analogue scale （VAS） and.facial expression scale （FES） were used.to assess pain d.ring multiple steps of the proced.re in each group. A d.tailed.questionnaire was used.to obtain information about d.ug use because it could.potentially influence the pain and.complications that patients experienced. Two weeks after the proced.re, early and.late complications were evaluated. Statistical analysis was carried.out using non-parametric tests. Prostate Specific Antigen （PSA） and.d.ug use were similar at baseline between the two groups. Pain d.ring prostate biopsy, which was measured.with both the VAS and.FES instruments, d.d.not d.ffer significantly between the 18- and.16 G-need.e groups, and.no significant d.fferences were found.in early or late complication rates between the groups. Piliostigma thonningii (Fabaceae) is a versatile med.cinal plant used.as a trad.tional remed.,especially in African *** the present stud.,ethyl acetate,methanolic and.water extracts of d.fferent parts of (fruits,leaves,stem barks) *** were evaluated.for their bioactive contents,enzyme inhibitory,antioxid.nt and.antimicrobial *** potentials were also d.splayed.in various method. like phosphomolybd.num assay (0.79–5.94 mmol TE/g),rad.cal scavenging assays (d.PH:20.39–471.28 mg TE/g;ABTS:42.43–654.14 mg TE/g);red.cing assays (CUPRAC:102.98–1207.42 mg TE/g;FRAP:45.30–656.25 mg TE/g) and.metal chelating activity (2.55–22.32 mg Ed.AE/g).In particular,the methanolic and.water extracts showed.better antioxid.nt *** for a few,the extracts were also found.to act as inhibitors of enzymes such as acetylcholinesterase (2.35–5.35 mg GALAE/g),butyrylcholinesterase (0.83–13.80 mg GALAE/g),tyrosinase (4.03–143.86 mg KAE/g),amylase (0.21–1.39 mmol ACAE/g) and.glucosid.se (3.52–7.13 mmol ACAE/g).Ad.itionally,all the tested.extracts possessed.significant antibacterial (minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and.minimum bactericid.l concentration:0.11–0.61 mg/ml) and.antifungal (MIC and.minimum fungicid.l concentration:0.04–0.61 mg/ml) ***,the d.ta garnered.from the present stud. provid.s a bright scope for the ad.anced.investigation on this particular plant possessing pharmacologically active traits.

Pretherapy sperm cryopreservation in young men is currently includ.d.in good.clinical practice guid.lines for cancer patients. The aim of this paper is to outline the effects of d.fferent oncological treatments on semen quality in patients with testicular neoplasia or lymphoprol iferative d.sord.rs, based.on an 8-year experience of the Cryopreservation Centre of a large public hospital. Two hund.ed.and.sixty-one patients with testicular neoplasia and.219 patients with lymphoproliferative d.sord.rs who und.rwent chemotherapy and.or rad.otherapy and.pretherapy semen cryopreservation were evaluated. Sperm and.hormonal parameters （follicle-stimulating hormone （FSH）, luteinizing hormone （LH）, testosterone, inhibin B levels） were assessed.prior to and.6, 12, 18, 24 and.36 months after the end.of cancer treatment. At the time of sperm collection, baseline FSH level and.sperm concentration were impaired.to a greater extent in patients with malignant testicular neoplasias than in patients with lymphoproliferative d.sord.rs. Toxic effects on spermatogenesis were still evid.nt at 6 and.12 months after the end.of cancer therapies, while an improvement of seminal parameters was observed.after 18 months. In conclusion, an overall increase in sperm concentration was record.d.about 18 months after the end.of cancer treatments in the majority of patients, even if it was not possible to pred.ct the evolution of each single case ＇a priori＇. For this reason, pretherapy semen cryopreservation should.be consid.red.in all young cancer patients.
