D-IMPACT: A Data Preprocessing Algorithm to Improve the Performance of Clustering

In this study, we propose a data preprocessing algorithm called D-IMPACT inspired by the IMPACT clustering algorithm. D-IMPACT iteratively moves data points based on attraction and density to detect and remove noise and outliers, and separate clusters. Our experimental results on two-dimensional datasets and practical datasets show that this algorithm can produce new datasets such that the performance of the clustering algorithm is improved.

Two-dimensional structure of density fluctuations is examined during the current jump phase, indicating a change from the open magnetic fields to the closed ones. During the smooth current ramp-up phase the two-dimensional contour of the LiI intensity shows vertically alignment, consistent with the magnetic surfaces. At the inflection point in Ip ramp-up the LiI intensity contour becomes flat in the observation regime and then suddenly a steep gradient and higher intensity regime are formed in the vertical direction. This higher intensity corresponds to a burst of LiI waveform. According to these changes in the contour, it is found that, within ~1 ms around the burst of LiI, a low frequency coherent wave with a long wavelength rapidly grows. The relations with other signals （magnetic flux and microwave stray power） are discussed with respect to the topological change in the magnetic configuration and mode conversion of the incident electromagnetic waves.

Background: Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a psychiatric disorder found in individuals afflicted by a traumatic event including the natural disaster. “Tsunami” occurred in Andaman coast of Thailand on December 26, 2004, in which 33.6% of survivors were diagnosed as PTSD. This study aimed to explore the single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP). rs267943 genotype is located on chromosome 5 in the intron of the death-associated protein 1 (DAP1) gene and psychosocial factors for PTSD. Methods: Participants (N = 1970) were recruited from volunteers who have complete data both of DAP1 gene and psychosocial factor. Results: Using a binary logistic regression model, significant gene-environment interactions were found for the single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) rs267943 and psychosocial factors including depression (adj. OR = 6.0, 95% CI = 4.29 - 8.39), neurotic personality (adj. OR = 2.73, 95% CI = 2.18 - 3.42), planning (adj. OR = 1.52, 95% CI = 1.20 - 1.93), use of emotional support (adj. OR = 1.32, 95% CI = 1.21 - 1.94) with statistical significant p Conclusion: This study demonstrated that GxE studies can be utilized to shed light on the origins of PTSD.

Predicting Βeta-Turns and Βeta-Turn Types Using a Novel Over-Sampling Approach

β-turn is one of the most important reverse turns because of its role in protein folding. Many computational methods have been studied for predicting β-turns and β-turn types. However, due to the imbalanced dataset, the performance is still inadequate. In this study, we proposed a novel over-sampling technique FOST to deal with the class-imbalance problem. Experimental results on three standard benchmark datasets showed that our method is comparable with state-of-the-art methods. In addition, we applied our algorithm to five benchmark datasets from UCI Machine Learning Repository and achieved significant improvement in G-mean and Sensitivity. It means that our method is also effective for various imbalanced data other than β-turns and β-turn types.

使用区域(NIED MT)和全球(哈佛大学CMT)矩张量目录研究了琉球岛弧和冲绳海槽的应力场。使用NIED MT目录4年数据和哈佛大学CMT目录24年数据的联合数据集,发现沿琉球岛弧弧前分布的平行弧向的扩张应力区域,并观测到详细的冲绳海槽扩张应力场。除北东端外,该顺弧向扩张在整个琉球岛弧区域都可以观测到。该应力场通过火山链与冲绳海槽的弧后扩张应力场明显分开。由于它存在于正俯冲区域以及弱耦合俯冲区域中,倾斜俯冲的影响不足以解释平行弧向扩张的形成。因而,我们认为弧后张开过程应该在这个平行弧向的扩张中起了重要作用。沿冲绳海槽,在琉球岛弧东南部和中部观测到垂直岛弧方向的扩张应力场,而在冲绳海槽东北部,扩张轴的方向既与岛弧的法向斜交又与板块运动方向斜交。考虑了俯冲板块与弧前和弧后相互作用的二维力学模型是不充分的,因为整个琉球岛弧都观测到平行弧向扩张应力场,而且冲绳海槽东北部的扩张轴与海槽走向斜交。倾斜的弧后应力可能发源于弧后下部或者弧后大陆一侧。解释该现象的最简单的方法之一可能是冲绳海槽东北部的活动断裂作用。
