Transurethral resection of prostate for acute urinary retention is linked to shorter survival in younger men

It is largely unknown whether lower urinary tract symptoms(LUTS)or acute retention of urine(AROU)is linked to shorter life expectancy in *** conducted a multicenter,retrospective database analysis of patients undergoing transurethral resection of prostate(TURP)to study their *** Cox regression analysis and Kaplan-Meier analysis with stratification to age and indication of TURP were *** further performed an age-and sex-matched survival analysis with the general population using data from the Census and Statistics Department of the hong Kong Special Administrative Region(hong Kong,china).From January 2002 to December 2012,3496 patients undergoing TURP were included in our study,with 1764 patients in the LUTS group and 1732 patients in the AROU *** age,ischemic heart disease,cerebrovascular accident,and AROU were risk factors of *** agedhose in the LUTS group,but such difference was not demonstrated in patients aged>80 *** to the general population,younger patients in the LUTS group appeared to have better survival(80 years,survival was similar with the general population in both the LUTS and AROU *** conclusion,AROU at young age was associated with mortality,while early detection and management of LUTS may improve survival.

Inhibitory effects of oxyresveratrol on ERK and Smad1/2 phosphorylation and HSC activation in preventing carbon tetrachloride-induced rat liver fibrosis

Oxyresveratrol(ORes,trans-2,4,3′,5′-tetrahydroxy stilbene)naturally exists in mulberry,grapes,peanuts and other *** belongs to stilbene polyphenolic family and has an extra hydroxyl group at 2-position comparing with resveratrol(Res).Hence,ORes has stronger antioxidant activity than *** present study,we employed a rat hepatic fibrosis model induced by carbon tetrachloride(CCl_(4))and administrated ORes via gavage feeding to study the protective effects and potential mechanisms of ORes against hepatic *** demonstrated that rat liver oxidative damage induced by CCl_(4)was significantly alleviated after ORes ***,the mRNA transcription levels ofα-smooth muscle actinn(˛-SMA),desmin,and two MMPs(MMP2 and MMP9)were reduced and the expression levels of transforming growth factorβ1(TGF-β1),p-small mother against decapen-taplegic protein(Smad)1/2 and p-extracellular signal-regulated kinases(ERK)1/2 in the liver tissue down-regulated *** a parallel study with Res,ORes showed more efficacious protective effect than Res against rat liver fibrosis,which is attributed to extended conjugation system due to the extra hydroxyl group at 2-position on ORes making it more electron-rich and susceptible to oxidation than ***,dietary consumption of mulberry and other fruits containing ORes may be beneficial in the prevention of liver fibrosis.

Armchair graphene nanoribbons(AGNRs)with sub-nanometer width are potential materials for the fabrication of novel nanodevices thanks to their moderate direct band *** are usually synthesized by polymerizing precursor molecules on substrate ***,it is time-consuming and not suitable for large-scale *** can also be grown by transforming precursor molecules inside single-walled carbon nanotubes(SWCNTs)via furnace annealing,but the obtained AGNRs are normally *** this work,microwave heating is applied for transforming precursor molecules into *** fast heating process allows synthesizing the AGNRs in *** different molecules were successfully transformed into AGNRs,suggesting that it is a universal *** importantly,as demonstrated by Raman spectroscopy,aberrationcorrected high-resolution transmission electron microscopy and theoretical calculations,less twisted AGNRs are synthesized by the microwave heating than the furnace *** results reveal a route for rapid production of AGNRs in large scale,which would benefit future applications in novel AGNRs-based semiconductor devices.

As the evolution of mobile technology, mobile devices have become an essential tool in people＇s daily life. Moreover, with the rapid growth of Internet and mobile networks, people can easily access various services provided by mobile platforms. Many services can be executed on the mobile devices with various mobile applications launched to mobile platforms. People can choose what they like to install in their mobile devices and hence make their life more convenient, entertaining, and productive. however, there are too many mobile applications for users to choose. The goal of this research is to propose a methodology which can recommend top-N lists for mobile applications. A comment correlation matrix is proposed. Furthermore, a recommendation algorithm for mobile applications based on user comments and key attributes is built. With the proposed method, it outperforms Google play and is closer to user real feelings.

Anti-inflammatory effects of characterized orange peel extracts enriched with bioactive polymethoxyflavones

In view of the potential of polymethoxyflavones(PMFs)and hydroxylated PMFs(OH-PMFs)as bioactives against inflammation,we prepared six different orange peel extracts(OPEs).The major compounds of these extracts were characterized and quantified by high performance liquid chromatography(HPLC).Effects on inflammation were analyzed by nutrigenomics using a human cell-based TPA-induced monocyte–macrophage differentiation model employing U-937 cells and inflammatory surrogate *** response and kinetics analysis of OPEs with different chemical profiles revealed less cytotoxic effects of PMFs as compared to OH-PMFs as demonstrated by the ***,a comparison of two PMF members such as 3,5,6,7,3,4-hexamethoxyflavone(HexaMF)and 3,5,6,7,8,3,4-heptamethoxyflavone(HeptaMF)exhibited less cytotoxic effects of HeptaMF as compared to HexaMF.A specific OPE enriched with HeptaMF,PMFs and OH-PMFs at low concentrations(10g/mL)significantly down-regulated the expression of a panel of genes involved in inflammatory response,including COX-2,TNF-α,ICAM-1,NFκB,IL-1β,IL-6,and IL-8 with an inflammatory index of−*** strong anti-inflammatory effects were then validated in a mouse carrageenan-induced paw edema *** intake of OPE reduced paw edema significantly in a dose-dependent ***,a dosage of 250 mg/kg gave an anti-inflammatory effect comparable to ibuprofen.A preliminary clinical study showed that OPE was well tolerated showing no adverse side *** summary,enrichment of phyto extracts such as OPEs with specific polymethoxyflavones as anti-inflammatory bioactives is a promising strategy to find naturally derived extracts that are effective against diseases associated with inflammation.©2014 Beijing Academy of Food *** and hosting by Elsevier *** rights reserved.

Background:Despite an increasing number of surveys and a growing interest in birdwatching,the population and distribution of Asian Dowitcher(Limnodromus semipalmatus),a species endemic to the East Asian-Australasian and Central Asian Flyways,remains poorly understood,and published information about the species is largely *** boreal spring 2019,over 22,432 Asian Dowitchers were recorded in a coastal wetland at Lianyungang,Jiangsu Prov-ince,china,constituting 97.5%of its estimated global ***:In 2019 and 2020,we conducted field surveys at Lianyungang to determine the numbers of Asian Dow-itchers using the area during both southward and northward *** also assessed the distribution and abun-dance of Asian Dowitchers elsewhere along the china coast by searching literature and consulting expert ***:The coastal wetlands of Lianyungang are the most important stopover site for Asian Dowitchers during both northward and southward migrations;they supported over 90%of the estimated global population during north-ward migration in two consecutive years(May 2019 and 2020).This area also supported at least 15.83%and 28.42%(or 30.74%and 53.51%using modelled estimates)of the global population during southward migration in 2019 and 2020 *** wetlands in the west and north of Bohai Bay also have been important stopover sites for the species since the *** comprehensive,long-term monitoring data are lacking,available evidence sug-gests that the population of the species may have ***:The high concentration of Asian Dowitchers at Lianyungang during migration means the species is highly susceptible to human disturbances and natural stochastic *** coastal wetlands of Lianyungang should be protected and potentially qualify for inclusion in china’s forthcoming nomination for World Heritage listing of Migratory Bird Sanctuaries along the Coast of Yellow Sea-Bohai Gulf of china(Phase II)in ***

The evolutionarily conserved RNA Polymerase Ⅱ Rpb4/7 sub-complex has been thoroughly studied in yeast and impacts gene expression at multiple levels including transcription,mRNA processing and *** addition Rpb4/7 exerts differential effects on gene expression in yeast and Rpb4 is not obligatory for yeast(***)*** roles for human(hs)Rpb4/7 have not been extensively described and we have probed this question by depleting hsRpb4/7 in established human cell lines using RNA *** find that Rpb4/7 protein levels are inter-dependent and accordingly,the functional effects of depleting either protein are ***4/7 exhibits gene-specific effects and cells initially remain viable upon hsRpb4/7 *** prolonged hsRpb4/7 depletion is cytotoxic in the range of cell lines *** cell death occurs by an unknown mechanism and in some cases is accompanied by a pronounced elongated cell *** conclusion we provide evidence for a gene-specific role of hsRpb4/7 in human cell viability.
