Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis will increase the risk of lung cancer

Objective To review the studies investigating the increased risk of lung cancer in patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis （IPF）.Data sources Data cited in this review were obtained mainly from PubMed and Medline from 1999 to 2013 and highly regarded older publications were also *** selection We identified,retrieved and reviewed the information on the frequency,risk factors,anatomical features,histological types,clinical manifestations,computed tomography findings and underlying mechanisms of lung cancer in IPF *** The prevalence rates of lung cancer in patients with IPF （4.8％ to 48％） are much higher than patients without IPF （2.0％ to 6.4％）.The risk factors for lung cancer in IPF include smoking,male gender,and *** cancers often occur in the peripheral lung zones where fibrotic changes are *** and squamous cell carcinoma are the most common types of lung cancer in patients with *** features of these patients include peripherally located,ill-defined mass mimicking air-space *** underlying mechanisms of the development of lung cancer in patients with IPF have not been fully understood,but may include the inflammatory response,epithelial injury and/or abnormalities,aberrant fibroblast proliferation,epigenetic and genetic changes,reduced cell-to-cell communication,and activation of specific signaling *** These findings suggest that IPF is associated with increased lung cancer *** is necessary to raise the awareness of lung cancer risk in IPF patients among physicians and patients.

Correlation between mitochondrial TRAP-1 expression and lymph node metastasis in colorectal cancer

AIM:To evaluate the effect of mitochondrial tumor necrosis factor receptor-associated protein-1(TRAP-1) on the lymph node metastasis(LNM) in Chinese colorectal cancer(CRC) patients,and develop potential LNMassociated biomarkers for CRC using quantitative realtime polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR) ***:Differences in mitochondrial TRAP-1 gene expression between primary CRC with LNM(LNM CRC) and without LNM(non-LNM CRC) were assessed in 96 Chinese colorectal carcinoma samples using quantitative RT-PCR analysis,Western blotting,and confirmed with immunohistochemical *** relationship between clinicopathological parameters and potential diagnostic biomarkers was also ***:TRAP-1 was significantly upregulated in LNM CRC compared with non-LNM CRC,which was confirmed by RT-PCR,Western blotting and immunohistochemical *** expression of TRAP-1 in two different metastatic potential human colorectal cancer cell lines,LoVo and HT29,was analyzed with Western *** expression level of TRAP-1 was dramatically higher in LoVo than in *** of TRAP-1 was significantly associated with LNM(90.2% in LNM group vs 22% in non-LNM group,P < 0.001),the advanced tumor node metastasis stage(89.1% in LNM group vs 26.9% in non-LNM group,P < 0.001),the increased 5-year recurrence rate(82.7% in LNM group vs 22.6% in non-LNM group,P < 0.001) and the decreased 5-year overall survival rate(48.4% in LNM vs 83.2% in non-LNM group,P < 0.001).Univariate and multivariate analyses indicated that TRAP-1 expression was an independent prognostic factor for recurrence and survival of CRC patients(Hazard ratio of 2.445 in recurrence,P = 0.017;2.867 in survival,P = 0.028).CONCLUSION:Mitochondria TRAP-1 affects the lymph node metastasis in CRC,and may be a potential biomarker for LNM and a prognostic factor in *** of TRAP-1 is a predictive factor for the poor outcome of colorectal cancer patients.

Distribution Pattern of Photosynthetic Picoplankton and Heterotrophic Bacteria in the Northern South China Sea

The environmental regulation of plcoplankton distribution in the northern South China Sea was examined In winter and summer of 2004. The average abundance of Synechococcus, Prochlorococcus, and heterotrophlc bacteria was lower In winter （30, 21, and 780×10^3 cells/cm^3, respectively） than In summer （53, 85, and 1 090×10^3 cells/cm^3, respectively）, but the seasonal pattern was opposite for plcoeukaryotlc phytoplankton （4 500 and 3 200 cells/cm^3 In winter and summer, respectively）. Synechococcus, picoeukaryotes, and bacteria were most abundant in the nutrient-rich coastal zone and continental shelf, but Prochlorococcus was most abundant In the continental slope and open ocean. The vertical distribution of each photosynthetic group and heterotrophlc bacteria changed between the two seasons. Synechococcus populations with apparently different phycoerythrobilin content occurred at many stations In the summer. In addition, two different populations of Prochlorococcus were found：（i） small, weakly fluorescing cells in the surface layer; and （ii） larger, strongly fluorescent cells In the deep layer. The distribution pattern of photosynthetic plcoplankton and heterotrophlc bacteria depends on environmental effects and their ecophyslologlcal differences. The distribution of Synechococcus appeared to be related to nutrient availability, whereas the distribution of Prochlorococcus appeared to be limited by temperature. Synechococcus was the only plcophytoplankton with a consistent strong relationship with bacteria.

Morphology-controlled electrocatalysts with the ability of CO_(2) adsorption/activation, mass transfer, high stability and porosity are much desired in electrochemical CO_(2) reduction reaction (CO_(2)RR). Here, three kinds of multi-dimensional nanostructures (i.e., hollow sphere, nanosheets and nanofibers) have been successfully produced through the modulation of porphyrin-based covalent organic frameworks (COFs) with various modulators. The obtained nanostructures with high-stability, large surface-area, and single metal sites enable efficient CO_(2)RR into CH_(4). Notably, they all exhibit higher FE (hollow sphere, 68.2%;nanosheet, 64.2% and nanofiber, 71.0%, -0.9 V) than COF-366-Cu (43.0%, -0.9 V) after morphology control. Noteworthy, the FE of COF-366-Cu (HS) keeps higher than 52.4% over a wide potential range from -0.9 V to -1.1 V and the achieved FECH_(4) + C_(2)H_(4) (82.8%, -0.9 V) is superior to most of reported COFs and copper-based electrocatalysts. This work paves a new way in the exploration of COF-based multi-dimensional nanostructures applicable in efficient CO_(2)RR to CH_(4).

Variations in diet composition of sympatric Trachypithecus francoisi and Macaca assamensis in the limestone habitats of Nonggang, China

Comparative studies of sympatric species are essential for understanding behavioral and ecological adaptation as well as the mechanisms that can reduce resource competition to allow coexistence. Francois＇ langurs （Trachypithecus francoisi） and Assamese macaques （Macaca assamensis） are sympatric primate species found in the limestone seasonal rainforests of Nonggang Nature Reserve, southwestern Guangxi, China. To explore their different adaptation strategies, we collected data on diet using scan sampling at 15-min intervals. Our results revealed that Francois＇ langurs showed a more flexible diet composition than Assamese macaques Francois＇ langurs increased dietary diversity and mature leaf consumption in response to seasonal scarcity of preferred young leaves and fruits, whereas Assamese macaques relied heavily on young bamboo leaves （Indocalamus calcicolus） in most months These variations reflect the differences in digestive physiology, morphology, and the temporal and spatial distribution of food resources.

Droplet breakage is a common phenomenon in converting a pipe flow to a swirl flow in a vane-type pipe separator(VTPS)’*** evaluation of the dispersed droplet sizes after breakage is crucial to the optimum design of the inlet structure and the estimation of the oil-water separation *** paper studies the droplet behavior in a swirl flow produced by guiding *** are performed with two different guiding vanes at the inlet of the *** sizes of the produced oil droplets at the downstream of the guiding vanes are measured in situ using a Malvern Insitec *** results indicate that the streamlined deflector is superior to the semi-elliptical plate for the VTPS’optimization based on the comparison of the droplet sizes in their respective induced swirl flow fields,which can be explained by a modified *** study suggests that the use of the modified T-model is a reliable method to optimize the design of the guiding vane in the swirling generating stage.

Constraints on ultracompact minihalos using neutrino signals from gravitino dark matter decay

Ultracompact dark matter minihalos （UCMHs） would be formed during the early universe if there were large density perturbations. If dark matter can decay into particles described by the standard model, such as neutrinos, these objects would become potential astrophysical sources of emission which could be detected by in- struments such as IceCube. In this paper, we investigate neutrino signals from nearby UCMHs due to gravitino dark matter decay and compare these signals with the back- ground neutrino flux which is mainly from the atmosphere to obtain constraints on the abundance of UCMHs.

Perovskite solar cells(PSCs)are becoming a promising candidate for next-generation photovoltaic cells due to their attractive power conversion efficiency(PCE).Plasmonic enhancement is regarded as an optical tuning approach for further improving the PCE of single-junction PSCs toward Shockley-Queisser ***,we introduce molecularly isolated gold nanorods(Au NRs),bearing relatively stronger scattering ability and localized surface plasmonic resonance(LSPR)effect,in the rear side of perovskites in PSCs,for promoting light harvesting and for electrical *** to the larger refractive index and better matched energy level alignment,the 4-mercaptobenzoic acid molecules coated on Au NRs prove to play important dual roles:isolating the metallic Au NRs from contacting with perovskite,and facilitating more efficient charge separation and transport across the interface under the synergetic LSPR effect of Au *** work highlights the capability of the plasmonic approach by nanorods and by molecular isolation,extending nanoparticle-based plasmonic approaches,toward highly efficient plasmon-enhanced PSCs.
