Non-Impact Origin of the Baisha Structure in Hainan Province, China

The Baisha Structure,with a rim-to-rim diameter of^3.7 km,in the center of the Hainan Province,southern China has been considered to be an impact crater.Field investigation and petrological study are presented in this paper to investigate the impact hypothesis for this structure.The^600-m-thick Lower Cretaceous feldspathic quartz sandstones from the Lumuwan Formation are the major outcrops both within and outside of the structure.The amphitheater-shaped rim of the structure is composed of granite porphyries that are intruded in the Lumuwan Formation.Previously interpreted impact breccia and impact melt rocks are actually granite porphyries different cooling rates and weathering status.Rocks from locations that most likely have recorded shock metamorphic signatures are sampled,but petrographic analyses reveal no indications of shock metamorphism.While subtle structural deformation occurs at the contact boundary between the granite porphyries and the feldspathic quartz sandstones,the feldspathic quartz sandstones exhibit uniformed dipping strata across the crater floor and walls.All the evidence suggests that the Baisha Structure was not formed by impact cratering.It most likely has been shaped by a combination of magmatic intrusion and long-term differential erosion.

Monitoring of ambient volatile organic compounds(VOCs)was conducted within typical residentialcommercial area in the city of Xi’an in northwest China during typical ozone(O_(3))episodes,to investigate the major contributors to the characteristic of ambient VOCs and their impact on O_(3) production.In the residential-commercial area,diurnal variation of VOCs was highly impacted by vehicle exhaust,fuel evaporation,and local solvent use.Relative higher contributions(up to 60%)of VOCs from solvent use to the ozone formation potential were found.The present findings highlight the urgent need for restrictions on the emission of VOCs from solvent use and non-vehicle-traffic-related sources,such as oil storage.

Tibetan singing bowls emit low-frequency sounds and produce perceptible harmonic tones and vibrations through manual tapping. The sounds the singing bowls produce have been shown to enhance relaxation and reduce anxiety. However, the underlying mechanism remains unclear. In this study, we used chronic restraint stress or sleep deprivation to establish mouse models of anxiety that exhibit anxiety-like behaviors. We then supplied treatment with singing bowls in a bottomless cage placed on the top of a cushion. We found that unlike in humans, the combination of harmonic tones and vibrations did not improve anxietylike behaviors in mice, while individual vibration components did. Additionally, the vibration of singing bowls increased the level of N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor 1 in the somatosensory cortex and prefrontal cortex of the mice, decreased the level of γ-aminobutyric acid A(GABA) receptor α 1 subtype, reduced the level of CaMKII in the prefrontal cortex, and increased the number of GABAergic interneurons. At the same time, electrophysiological tests showed that the vibration of singing bowls significantly reduced the abnormal low-frequency gamma oscillation peak frequency in the medial prefrontal cortex caused by stress restraint pressure and sleep deprivation. Results from this study indicate that the vibration of singing bowls can alleviate anxiety-like behaviors by reducing abnormal molecular and electrophysiological events in somatosensory and medial prefrontal cortex.

Carbonized metallic organic frameworks(CMOF)have been attracting attention in microwave absorption(MA)research area because of their diverse structures,tunable compositions,and rich porosity.Herein,structure regulation on metal clusters in CMOF is achieved by tuning the interaction strength between metals and ligands to enhance microwave absorption performance.Due to relatively weak interaction among copper cations and ligands,copper nanoclusters(CuNC)can be uniformly formed and embedded within the cobalt/zinc(Co/Zn)CMOF.Firstly,copper cations are added to the Co/Zn bimetallic zeolitic imidazolate frameworks(ZIFs).Secondly,the CMOF composite particles with CuNCs(CuNCs/CoZn-CMOF)were developed by a pyrolysis process.The CuNCs/CoZn-CMOF with an appropriate amount of CuNCs can harmonize both dielectric and magnetic losses.As a result,the minimum reflection loss(RLmin)reaches–45.1 dB at a matching thickness of 2.30 mm and the effective absorption bandwidth(EAB)is 8.80 GHz at a thickness of 3.10 mm.The broadband response to electromagnetic waves is attributed to interfacial polarization at CuNCs surface and heterogeneous interfaces,impedance matching and multiple scattering of electromagnetic waves.This study provides a feasible method to develop CMOF microwave absorption materials with high EAB values.

Influence of A-site doping barium on structure,magnetic and microwave absorption properties of LaFeO_(3)ceramics powders

In this paper,the effect of Ba^(2+)ions A-site doping LaFeO_(3)on structure,magnetic properties and microwave absorption properties was investigated by the sol-gel method.According to the TEM and FullProf refinement results,the structure of LaFeO_(3)changes from orthogonal(SG:Pnma)to cubic(SG:Pm-3 m)when the Ba doping amount is x=0.4.The SEM image shows that the particles size tends to decrease with the increase of Ba content.The production of weak ferromagnetism indicates that Ba doping has a significant effect on the magnetic properties of LaFeO_(3).The Neel temperature(TN)decreases significantly with the increase of Ba doping amount.An appropriate amount of Ba doping can effectively increase the dielectric and magnetic loss of LaFeO_(3)ceramics powders.The increase permittivity(ε’andε″)may be attributed to the hopping of the electrons between the Fe^(3+)and Fe^(4+)ions with the Ba^(2+)ions doping.The minimum reflection loss(RL_(min))of La_(0.9)Ba_(0.1)FeO_(3)at 6.72 GHz reaches-30.04 dB,its effective bandwidth(RL≤-10 dB)is 2.1 GHz,and the matching thickness is only 3.2 mm.These results indicate that Ba doping can effectively control the microwave absorption properties of LaFeO_(3),especially in the Cband.

Patterns of human-wildlife conflict and compensation practices around Daxueshan Nature Reserve, China

Understanding the spatial patterns of human-wildlife conflict is essential to inform management decisions to encourage coexistence, but it is constrained by the lack of spatially-explicit data. We collected spatially-implicit data of human-wildlife conflicts from 2009-2015 around Daxueshan Nature Reserve, Yunnan, China, and investigated the patterns and drivers of these conflicts. A questionnaire was also designed to capture local resident attitudes toward insurance-based compensation for the losses caused by targeted wildlife. We found that the Asiatic black bear （Ursus thibetanus） was the most conflict-prone animal around the reserve, followed by the rhesus macaque （Macaca mulatta） and Southeast Asian sambar （Cervus equinus）. Conflicts were unevenly distributed among seasons, villages, and communities, with several grids identified as conflict hotspots. Poisson models revealed that human-bear conflicts were negatively related to distance to the reserve and proportion of forest, but positively correlated to the proportion of cropland. Binomial models showed that communities affected by crop depredation were positively correlated with the proportion of cropland and negatively correlated with distance to the reserve, whereas communities affected by livestock depredation were negatively correlated with the proportion of cropland. The insurance-based scheme has compensated over 90% of losses, to the satisfaction of 90.6% of respondents. Our results suggest that human-bear conflict could be potentially reduced by eliminating food crops near the reserve boundary and livestock grazing at conflict hotspots.In addition, the insurance-based scheme could be replicated at a broader scale with improvement in loss assessment.

Background:Cardiac remodeling after acute myocardial infarction(AMI)is an important process.The present study aimed to assess the protective effects of astaxanthin(ASX)on cardiac remodeling after AMI.Methods:The study was conducted between April and September 2018.To create a rat AMI model,rats were anesthetized,and the left anterior descending coronary artery was ligated.The rats in the ASX group received 10 mg·kg-1·day-1 ASX by gavage for 28 days.On the 1st day after AMI,but before ASX administration,six rats from each group were sacrificed to evaluate changes in the heart function and peripheral blood(PB)levels of inflammatory factors.On the 7th day after AMI,eight rats from each group were sacrificed to evaluate the PB levels of inflammatory factors and the M2 macrophage count using both immunofluorescence(IF)and flow cytometry(FC).The remaining rats were observed for 28 days.Cardiac function was examined using echocardiography.The inflammatory factors,namely,tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α),interleukin-1β(IL-1β),and IL-10,were assessed using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.The heart weight/body weight(BW),and lung weight(LW)/BW ratios were calculated,and myocardial fibrosis in the form of collagen volume fraction was measured using Masson trichrome staining.Hematoxylin and eosin(H&E)staining was used to determine the myocardial infarct size(MIS),and TdT-mediated dUTP nick-end labeling staining was used to analyze the myocardial apoptosis index.The levels of apoptosis-related protein,type I/III collagen,transforming growth factorβ1(TGF-β1),metalloproteinase 9(MMP9),and caspase 3 were assessed by Western blotting.Unpaired t-test,one-way analysis of variance,and non-parametric Mann-Whitney test were used to analyze the data.Results:On day 1,cardiac function was worse in the ASX group than in the sham group(left ventricular end-systolic diameter[LVIDs]:0.72±0.08 vs.0.22±0.06 cm,t=-11.38;left ventricular end-diastolic diameter[LVIDd]:0.89±0.09 vs.0.48±0.05 cm,t=-9.42;end-systolic volume[ESV]:0.80[0.62,0.94]vs.0.0

Nanomaterials(NMs)have increasingly been used for the diagnosis and treatment of head and neck cancers(HNCs)over the past decade.HNCs can easily infiltrate surrounding tissues and form distant metastases,meaning that most patients with HNC are diagnosed at an advanced stage and often have a poor prognosis.Since NMs can be used to deliver various agents,including imaging agents,drugs,genes,vaccines,radiosensitisers,and photosensitisers,they play a crucial role in the development of novel technologies for the diagnosis and treatment of HNCs.Indeed,NMs have been reported to enhance delivery efficiency and improve the prognosis of patients with HNC by allowing targeted delivery,controlled release,responses to stimuli,and the delivery of multiple agents.In this review,we consider recent advances in NMs that could be used to improve the diagnosis,treatment,and prognosis of patients with HNC and the potential for future research.

Green recycling of short-circuited garnet-type electrolyte for high-performance solid-state lithium batteries

Solid-state lithium batteries(SSLBs)solve safety issues and are potentially energy-dense alternatives to next-generation energy storage systems.Battery green recycling routes are responsible for the widespread use of SSLBs due to minimizing environmental contamination,reducing production costs,and providing a sustainable solution for resources,e.g.,saving rare earth elements(La,Ta,etc.).Herein,a solid-state recycling strategy is proposed to achieve green recycling of the crucial component solidstate electrolytes(SSEs)in spent SSLBs.The short-circuited garnet Li_(6.5)La_(3)Zr_(1.5)Ta_(0.5)O_(12)(LLZTO)is broken into fine particles and mixed with fresh particles to improve sintering activity and achieve high packing density.The continuous Li absorption process promotes sufficient grain fusion and guarantees the transformation from tetragonal phase to pure cubic phase for high-performance recycled LLZTO.The Li-ion conductivity reaches 5.80×10^(-4)S cm-1with a relative density of 95.9%.Symmetric Li cell with asrecycled LLZTO shows long-term cycling stability for 700 h at 0.3 mA cm^(-2)without any voltage hysteresis.Full cell exhibits an excellent cycling performance with a discharge capacity of 141.5 mA h g^(-1)and a capacity retention of 92.1%after 400 cycles(0.2C).This work develops an environmentally friendly and economically controllable strategy to recycle SSE from spent SSLBs,guiding future directions of SSLBs large-scale industrial application and green recycling study.
