BACKGROUND Despite the availability of current therapies,including oral antidiabetic drugs and insulin,for controlling the symptoms caused by high blood glucose,it is difficult to cure diabetes mellitus,especially type 1 diabetes *** Cell therapies using mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs)may be a promising ***,the therapeutic mechanisms by which MSCs exert their effects,such as whether they can differentiate into insulin-producing cells (IPCs) beforetransplantation, are *** this study, we used three types of differentiation media over 10 d to generateIPCs from human Wharton’s jelly MSCs (hWJ-MSCs). We further transplantedthe undifferentiated hWJ-MSCs and differentiated IPCs derived from them intothe portal vein of rats with streptozotocin-induced diabetes, and recorded thephysiological and pathological *** fluorescent staining and C-peptide enzyme-linked immunoassay, we wereable to successfully induce the differentiation of hWJ-MSCs into *** of both IPCs derived from hWJ-MSCs and undifferentiated hWJMSCshad the therapeutic effect of ameliorating blood glucose levels andimproving intraperitoneal glucose tolerance tests. The transplanted IPCs homedto the pancreas and functionally survived for at least 8 wk after transplantation,whereas the undifferentiated hWJ-MSCs were able to improve the insulitis andameliorate the serum inflammatory cytokine in streptozotocin-induced *** IPCs can significantly improve blood glucose levels in diabetic ratsdue to the continuous secretion of insulin by transplanted cells that survive in theislets of diabetic rats. Transplantation of undifferentiated hWJ-MSCs cansignificantly improve insulitis and re-balance the inflammatory condition indiabetic rats with only a slight improvement in blood glucose levels.

Mutual regulation of microglia and astrocytes after Gas6 inhibits spinal cord injury

Invasive inflammation and excessive scar formation are the main reasons for the difficulty in repairing nervous tissue after spinal cord *** and astrocytes play key roles in the spinal cord injury micro-environment and share a close ***,the mechanisms involved remain *** this study,we found that after spinal cord injury,resting microglia(M0)were polarized into pro-inflammatory phenotypes(MG1 and MG3),while resting astrocytes were polarized into reactive and scar-forming *** expression of growth arrest-specific 6(Gas6)and its receptor Axl were significantly down-regulated in microglia and astrocytes after spinal cord *** vitro experiments showed that Gas6 had negative effects on the polarization of reactive astrocytes and pro-inflammatory microglia,and even inhibited the cross-regulation between *** further demonstrated that Gas6 can inhibit the polarization of reactive astrocytes by suppressing the activation of the Yes-associated protein signaling ***,in turn,inhibited the polarization of pro-inflammatory microglia by suppressing the activation of the nuclear factor-κB/p65 and Janus kinase/signal transducer and activator of transcription signaling *** vivo experiments showed that Gas6 inhibited the polarization of pro-inflammatory microglia and reactive astrocytes in the injured spinal cord,thereby promoting tissue repair and motor function ***,Gas6 may play a role in the treatment of spinal cord *** can inhibit the inflammatory pathway of microglia and polarization of astrocytes,attenuate the interaction between microglia and astrocytes in the inflammatory microenvironment,and thereby alleviate local inflammation and reduce scar formation in the spinal cord.

surgical robots are designed to provide enhanced precision and dexterity compared to manual surgical procedures,which mainly rely on multimodal sensing technologies for the surgeon to seamlessly operate the robotic arms and *** with single-mode sensors, optical and mechanical bi-modal sensors provide improved precision, enhanced safety,and robustness of human-machine interaction systems. Here, the template-guided and pneumatic printing technologies are combined to construct perovskite and graphene parallel structures with both optical and mechanical sensing capabilities. The printed uniformly crystallized perovskite microstructure exhibits fast and sensitive photoelectric response characteristics,enabling shadow recognition functionality. The combination of graphene and elastic rubber endows the great printability to prepare parallel structures near the perovskite arrays for force sensing capabilities. Thus, the printed perovskite and graphene structures possess non-contact optical sensing capabilities to detect hand position by recognizing shadows between the hand and the sensor, as well as contact mechanical sensing capabilities to detect touch force applied by the hand. It provides a synergistic platform for real-time and multidimensional feedback to improve human-machine interaction.

Delay-dependent robust H_∞control of convex polyhedral uncertain fuzzy systems

The robust H∞ control problem for a class of uncertain Takagi-sugeno fuzzy systems with timevarying state delays is studied. The uncertain parameters are supposed to reside in a polytope. Based on the delay-dependent Lyapunov functional method, a new delay-dependent robust H∞ fuzzy controller, which depends on the size of the delays and the derivative of the delays, is presented in term of linear matrix inequalities （LMIs）. For all admissible uncertainties and delays, the controller guarantees not only the asymptotic stability of the system but also the prescribed H∞ attenuation level. In addition, the effectiveness of the proposed design method is demonstrated by a numerical example.

The robust H∞ control problem of norm bounded uncertain discrete Takagi-sugeno （T-S） fuzzy systems with state delay is addressed. First, by constructing an appropriate basis-dependent Lyapunov-Krasovskii function, a new delay-dependent sufficient condition on robust H∞-disturbance attenuation is presented, in which both robust stability and prescribed H∞ performance are guaranteed to be achieved. Then based on the condition, a delay-dependent robust Hoo controller design scheme is developed in term of a convex algorithm. Finally, examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

In order to study a class of finite-dimensional representations of Uq（sl2）, we deal with the quotient algebra Uq （m, n, b） of quantum group Uq（sl2） with relations Kr=1, Emr=b, Fnr=0 in this paper, where q is a root of unity. The algebra Uq（m, n, b） is decomposed into a direct sum of indecomposable （left） ideals. The structures of indecomposable projective representations and their blocks are determined.

Preparation of Silver Nanowires via a Rapid,Scalable and Green Pathway

Rapid synthesis of silver nanowires(Ag NWs) with high quality and a broad processing window is challenging because of the low selectivity of the formation of multiply twinned particles at the nucleation stage for subsequent Ag NWs *** we report a systematic study of the water-involved heterogeneous nucleation of Ag NWs with high rate(less than 20 min) in a simple and scalable preparation *** glycerol as a reducing agent and a solvent with a high boiling point,the reaction is rapidly heated to 210 ℃ in air to synthesize Ag NWs with a very high yield in gram *** is noted that the addition of a small dose of water plays a key role for obtaining highly pure Ag NWs in high yield,and the optimal water/glycerol ratio is0.25%.After investigating a series of forming factors including reaction temperature and dose of catalysts,the formation kinetics and mechanism of the Ag NWs are *** to other preparation methods,our strategy is simple and *** Ag NWs show a strong Raman enhancement effect for organic molecules on their surface.
