Interfacial friction effects on sealing performances of elastomer packer

Elastomer sealing performance is of critical importance for downhole tools application including the use of fracturing(Frac)plugs during multi-stage hydraulic *** practice sealing performances of such plugs are normally evaluated through pressure tests,and in numerical simulation studies,maximum contact stress,average contact stress and contact length data are used to determine sealing quality between a packer and *** previous studies,the impact of friction forces on sealing performance is often *** work aims to fill this knowledge gap in determining the influence of friction forces on elastomer packer sealing *** first determined the most appropriate constitutive hyperelastic model for the elastomers used in frac *** we compared analytical calculation results with Finite Element Analysis simulation using a simplified tubular geometry and showed the significant influences on interfacial friction on elastomer packer stress distribution,deformation,and contact stress after *** the demonstration of validity of FEA method,we conducted systematic numerical simulation studies to show how the interfacial friction coefficients can affect the maximum contact stress,average contact stress,contact stress distribution,and maximum mises stress for an actual packer used in plug *** addition,we also demonstrated how the groove in a packer can affect packer deformation and evolvement during setting with the consideration of interfacial *** study underscores the critical role that friction forces play in Frac plug performance and provides a new dimension for optimizing packer design by controlling interfacial interactions at the packer contact surfaces.

The influence of a mechanical structure's volume increment on the volume power density (VPD) of triboelectric nanogenerators (TENgs) is often neglected when considering surface charge density and surface power density. This paper aims to address this gap by introducing a standardized VPD metric for a more comprehensive evaluation of TENg performance. The study specifically focuses on 2 frequency-up mechanisms, namely, the integration of planetary gears (Pg-TENg) and the implementation of a double-cantilever structure (DC-TENg), to investigate their impact on VPD. The study reveals that the Pg-TENg achieves the highest volume average power density, measuring at 0.92 W/m^(3). This value surpasses the DC-TENg by 1.26 times and the counterpart TENg by a magnitude of 69.9 times. Additionally, the Pg-TENg demonstrates superior average power output. These findings introduce a new approach for enhancing TENgs by incorporating frequency-up mechanisms, and highlight the importance of VPD as a key performance metric for evaluating TENgs.

The nitrile butadiene rubber(NBR)hardness effect on the sealing characteristics of hydraulic O-ring rod seals is analyzed based on a mixed lubrication elastohydrodynamic *** studies are conducted to reveal the mechanism of the influence of rubber hardness on the static and dynamic behavior of *** optimized selections of rubber hardness are then investigated under different *** show that the low hardness seal is prone to stress concentration due to the extrusion effect under high pressure conditions;it is also more prone to leaking.A high hardness seal can better prevent leakage by reducing film thickness but it will cause large frictional power loss and increase the probability of wear *** choice of low hardness is recommended to reduce friction with the premise that leakage requirements are met.

An observed nocturnal ozone transport event in the Sichuan Basin,Southwestern China

The ozone(O_(3))pollution in China drew lots of attention in recent years,and the Sichuan Basin(SCB)was one of the regions confronting worsening O_(3)pollution *** previous studies have shown that regional transport is an important contributor to O_(3)***,very few features of the O_(3)profile during transport have been reported,especially in the border regions between different administrative *** this study,we conducted tethered balloon soundings in SCB during the summer of 2020 and captured a nocturnal O_(3)transport event during the ***,the O_(3)transport occurred in the bottom of the residual layer,between 200 and 500 m above ground ***,the transport pathway was directed from southeast to northwest based on the analysis of the wind field and air mass *** effect of transport in the residual layer on the surface O_(3)concentration was related to the spatial distribution of O_(3).For cities with high O_(3)concentrations in the upwind region,the transport process would bring clean air masses and abate *** downwind lightly polluted cities,the transport process would slow down the decreasing or even increase the surface O_(3)concentration during the *** provided observational facts on the profile features of a transboundary O_(3)transport event between two provincial administrative divisions,which implicated the importance of joint prevention and control ***,the sounding parameters were limited and the quantitative analysis was preliminary,more integrated,and thorough studies of this topic were called for in the future.

Distribution of per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances in blood,serum,and urine of patients with liver cancer and associations with liver function biomarkers

Preliminary discussion on the ignition mechanism of exploding foil initiators igniting boron potassium nitrate

Exploding foil initiator(EFI)is a kind of advanced device for initiating explosives,but its function is unstable when it comes to directly igniting *** solve the problem,this research aims to reveal the ignition mechanism of EFIs directly igniting *** oscilloscope,a photon Doppler velocimetry,and a plasma spectrum measurement system were employed to obtain information of electric characteristics,impact pressure,and plasma *** results of the electric characteristics and the impact pressure were inconsistent with ignition *** only thing that the ignition success tests had in common was that their plasma all had a relatively long period of high-temperature duration(HTD).It eventually concludes that the ignition mechanism in this research is the microconvection heat transfer rather than the shock initiation,which differs from that of exploding foil initiators detonating ***,the methods for evaluating the ignition success of semiconductor bridge initiators are not entirely applicable to the tests mentioned in this *** HTD is the critical parameter for judging the ignition success,and it is influenced by two factors:the late time discharge and the energy of the electric *** longer time of the late time discharge and the more energy of the electric explosion,the easier it is to expand the HTD,which improves the probability of the ignition success.

A Multi-strategy Improved Snake Optimizer Assisted with Population Crowding Analysis for Engineering Design Problems

Snake Optimizer(SO)is a novel Meta-heuristic Algorithm(MA)inspired by the mating behaviour of snakes,which has achieved success in global numerical optimization problems and practical engineering ***,it also has certain drawbacks for the exploration stage and the egg hatch process,resulting in slow convergence speed and inferior solution *** address the above issues,a novel multi-strategy improved SO(MISO)with the assistance of population crowding analysis is proposed in this *** the algorithm,a novel multi-strategy operator is designed for the exploration stage,which not only focuses on using the information of better performing individuals to improve the quality of solution,but also focuses on maintaining population *** boost the efficiency of the egg hatch process,the multi-strategy egg hatch process is proposed to regenerate individuals according to the results of the population crowding *** addition,a local search method is employed to further enhance the convergence speed and the local search *** is first compared with three sets of algorithms in the CEC2020 benchmark functions,including SO with its two recently discussed variants,ten advanced MAs,and six powerful CEC competition *** performance of MISO is then verified on five practical engineering design *** experimental results show that MISO provides a promising performance for the above optimization cases in terms of convergence speed and solution quality.

Jellyfish-inspired alginate composite hydrogel filter prepared by macro-micro double bionic strategy for efficient water purification

Recently,research on hydrogel materials with a porous structure and superior water absorption capabilities significantly ***,the hydrogel under gravity-driven separation conditions often exhibit an unstable pore structure,poor mechanical properties,and limited *** this end,this work presents a novel approach that combines a macro-micro double bionic strategy with a triple crosslinking method to develop a multifunctional alginate composite hydrogel filter(2%-SA-κCg-PVA-Ca^(2+),2%-SKP-Ca^(2+)for short)with a stable pore structure and superior mechanical properties,which possessed an umbrella-shaped structure resembling that of *** 2%-SKPCa^(2+)filter was synthesized using polyvinyl alcohol(PVA)as a stable structure-directing agent,and sodium alginate(SA)andκ-carrageenan(κ-Cg)as polymer *** distinctive umbrellashaped hydrogel of 2%-SKP-Ca^(2+)filter,formed through the triple crosslinking method,overcomes the limitations of unstable pore structure and poor durability seen in hydrogels prepared by traditional crosslinking ***,the utilization of the 2%-SKP-Ca^(2+)filter in water treatment demonstrates its good selective permeability,excellent resistance to fouling,and extended longevity,which enables it to simultaneously achieve the multifunctional water purification and the coating of multi-substrate anti-fouling ***,not only does this research provide an efficient,multifunctional,highly pollution-resistant preparation method for designing a new filter,but it also confirms the application prospect of the macro-micro dual bionic strategy developed in this study in complex water treatment.

Damage evolution and removal behaviors of gaN crystals involved in double-grits grinding

Elucidating the complex interactions between the work material and abrasives during grinding of gallium nitride(gaN)single crystals is an active and challenging research *** this study,molecular dynamics simulations were performed on double-grits interacted grinding of gaN crystals;and the grinding force,coefficient of friction,stress distribution,plastic damage behaviors,and abrasive damage were systematically *** results demonstrated that the interacted distance in both radial and transverse directions achieved better grinding quality than that in only one *** grinding force,grinding induced stress,subsurface damage depth,and abrasive wear increase as the transverse interacted distance ***,there was no clear correlation between the interaction distance and the number of atoms in the phase transition and dislocation *** interacted distances between abrasives can decrease grinding force,coefficient of friction,grinding induced stress,subsurface damage depth,and abrasive wear during the grinding *** results of grinding tests combined with cross-sectional transmission electron micrographs validated the simulated damage results,*** atoms,high-pressure phase transition,dislocations,stacking faults,and lattice *** results of this study will deepen our understanding of damage accumulation and material removal resulting from coupling between abrasives during grinding and can be used to develop a feasible approach to the wheel design of ordered abrasives.
