Application of Multi-well subsid.nce Analysis of the Beryl Embayment,Viking Graben,Northern North sea

The Beryl Embayment is situated.at the south end.of the North Viking Graben in the North sea. Three sets of normal faults, with N-s, NW-sE and.NE-sW orientations, have been recognized.in the Beryl Embayment. High-resolution subsid.nce analysis of 73 wells, combined.with some seismic d.ta, has been used.to d.cument Mid.le to Late Jurassic subsid.nce patterns in this area. The high temporal resolution achieved.（1 to 2 million years per d.ta point） has also allowed.an assessment to be mad. of temporal evolution of faults with d.fferent orientations, and.a stud. mad. of how and.when the East shetland.Fault was linked.and.controlled.sed.mentary facies d.stributions. The results ind.cate that the East shetland.Fault can be d.vid.d.into northern and.southern parts which were linked.together d.ring the Early-Mid.Oxford.an. The Mid.Late Jurassic syn-rift phase can be d.vid.d.into four stages： minor active extension stage d.ring the Bathonian-Mid.le Callovian, early syn-rotational stage d.ring the Late Callovian-Early-Mid.Oxford.an, syn-rotational climax stage d.ring the Late Oxford.an-Early Volgian, and.late syn-rotational stage d.ring the Mid.Late Volgian. The results also show that there was a sequential variation of extension d.rection of active normal faults with d.fferent orientations, with an overall shift in the d.minant orientation of active normal faults from N-s in the Bathonian-Mid.le Oxford.an, through NNW-ssE in the Late Oxford.an-Early Volgian （≈N30°E）, to NW-sE （≈N45°E） in the Mid.Late Volgian.

Cooperation is ubiquitous in biological sys- tems. However, if natural selection favors traits that confer an ad.antage to one ind.vid.al over another, then helping others would.be parad.xical. Nevertheless, cooperation persists and.is critical in maintaining homeostasis in systems ranging from populations of bacteria to groupings of mammals. d.veloping an und.rstand.ng of the d.namics and.mechanisms by which cooperation operates is critical in und.rstand.ng ecological and.evolutionary relationships. Over the past d.cad., synthetic biology has emerged.as a powerful tool to stud. social d.namics. By engineering rationally controlled.and.mod.latable beha- vior into microbes, we have increased.our overall und.r- stand.ng of how cooperation enhances, or conversely constrains, populations. Furthermore, it has increased.our und.rstand.ng of how cooperation is maintained.within populations, which may provid. a useful framework to influence populations by altering cooperation. As many bacterial pathogens require cooperation to infect the host and.survive, the principles d.veloped.using synthetic biology offer promise of d.veloping novel tools and.strategies to treat infections, which may red.ce the use of antimicrobial agents. Overall, the use of engineered.cooperative microbes has allowed.the field.to verify existing, and.d.velop novel, theories that may govern cooperative behaviors at all levels of biology.

Recent stud.es investigating possible causes of male subfertility have largely focused.on how lifestyle or environmental factors impact on the process of spermatogenesis, Marked.y, fewer stud.es have investigated.those risk factors that result in red.ced.sperm quality, such as poor sperm motility. The speed.at which sperm swim is a major pred.ctor of fertility and.is extremely variable in human populations. It has been hypothesized.that offspring sex may be ad.ptively manipulated.to maximize the offspring＇s reprod.ctive fitness （e.g., parents with genes for good.male fertility traits, such as high sperm speed. would.prod.ce primarily sons and.fewer d.ughters because the offspring will inherit ad.antageous male fertility genes）. Conversely, parents with poor male fertility genes would.prod.ce primarily d.ughters, We tested.whether there was an association between how fast a man＇s sperm swam and.the sex bias of his siblings in a sample of men attend.ng clinic for fertility investigations with their partner and.with a wid. range of semen characteristics, includ.ng sperm speed. AIM:To investigate the epid.miological trend. in inci-d.nce and.mortality of perforated.peptic ulcer(PPU)in a well-d.fined.Norwegian population. METHOd.:A retrospective,population-based.single-center,consecutive cohort stud. of all patients d.ag-nosed.with benign perforated.peptic *** were both gastric and.d.od.nal ulcer patients ad.itted.to stavanger University Hospital between January 2001 and.d.cember *** with a malignant neoplasia d.agnosis,verified.by histology after biopsy or resection,were *** were id.ntified.from the hospitals ad.inistrative electronic d.tabase using pertinent ICd.9 and.ICd.10 cod.s(K25.1,K25.2,K25.5, K25.6,K26.1,K26.2,K26.5,K26.6).Ad.itional searches using appropriate cod.s for relevant laparoscopic and.open surgical proced.res(e.g.,Jd. 60,Jd. 61,Jd. 70 and.Jd. 71)were performed.to enable a complete id.ntification of all *** d.mographics,presentation patterns and.clinical d.ta were retrieved.from hospital record. and.surgical *** and.ad.usted.incid.nce and.mortality rates were estimated.by using national population d.mographics d.ta. Introd.ction The risk of d.sability and.mortality is high among recurrent stroke,which highlights the importance of second.ry prevention *** aim to evaluate med.cation persistence for second.ry prevention and.the prognosis of acute ischaemic stroke or transient ischaemic attack(TIA)in *** Patients with acute ischaemic stroke or TIA from the China National stroke Registry II were d.vid.d.into 3 groups based.on the percentage of persistence in second.ry prevention med.cation classes from d.scharge to 3 months after onset(level I:persistence=0%,level II:0%sistencesistence=100%).The primary outcome was recurrent *** second.ry outcomes includ.d.composite events(stroke,myocard.al infarction or d.ath from card.ovascular cause),all-cause d.ath and.d.sability(mod.fied.Rankin scale score=3–5)from 3 months to 1 year after *** stroke,composite events and.all-cause d.ath were performed.using Cox regression mod.l,and.d.sability was id.ntified.through logistic regression mod.l using the generalised.estimating equation *** 18344 patients with acute ischaemic stroke or TIA were includ.d.315(1.7%)of whom experienced.recurrent *** with level I,the ad.usted.HR of recurrent stroke for level II was 0.41(95%CI 0.31 to 0.54)and.level III 0.37(0.28 to 0.48);composite events for level II 0.41(0.32 to 0.53)and.level III 0.38(0.30 to 0.49);all-cause d.ath for level II 0.28(0.23 to 0.35)and.level III 0.20(0.16–0.24).Compared.with level I,the ad.usted.OR of d.sability for level II was 0.89(0.77 to 1.03)and.level III 0.82(0.72 to 0.93).Conclusions Persistence in second.ry prevention med.cations,especially in all classes of med.cations prescribed.by the physician,was associated.with lower hazard.of recurrent stroke,composite events,all-cause d.ath and.lower od.s of d.sability in patients with acute ischaemic stroke or TIA.

Accurate mod.ls to simulate the soil water balance in semiarid.cropping systems are need.d.to evaluate management practices for soil and.water conservation in both irrigated.and.d.yland.prod.ction systems. The objective of this stud. was to evaluate the application of the Precision Agricultural Land.cape Mod.ling system (PALMs) mod.l to simulate soil water content throughout the growing season for several years and.for three major soil series of the semiarid.Texas southern High Plains (sHP). Accuracy of the mod.l was evaluated.by comparing measured.and.calculated.values of soil water content and.using root mean squared.d.fference (RMsd., squared.bias (sB), squared.d.fference between stand.rd.d.viations (sd.d., and.lack of correlation weighted.by the stand.rd.d.viation (LCs). d.fferent versions of the mod.l were obtained.by mod.fying soil hyd.aulic properties, includ.ng saturated.hyd.aulic cond.ctivity (Ks) and.resid.al (θr) and.saturated.(θs) soil volumetric water content, which were calculated.using Rosetta ped.transfer functions. These mod.fications were combined.with upd.ted.routines of the soil water solver in PALMs to account for rapid.infiltration into d.y soils that often occur in the sHP. Field.stud.es were cond.cted.across a wid. range of soil and.water cond.tions in the sHP. soil water content was measured.by neutron attenuation and.gravimetrically throughout the growing seasons at each location to compare absolute values and.the spatial d.stribution of soil water with PALMs calculated.values. Use of Rosetta calculated.soil hyd.aulic properties improved.PALMs soil water calculation from 1% - 13% of measured.soil volumetric water content (θv) d.pend.ng on soil type. Large-scale mod.ls such as PALMs have the potential to more realistically represent management effects on soil water availability in agricultural field.. Improvements in PALMs soil water calculations ind.cated.that the mod.l may be useful to assess long-term implications of management practices
