The Senegal River basin （SRb） is a shared watershed in West Africa which includes regions （the upper basin, valley, and delta）, characterized by distinct environmental conditions. An important feature of the Senegal River flow volume historically was its in- ter-annual irregularity, which caused a major water resource constrain. This situation has been accentuated during the long-term drought （1969-1984） in the Sahel zone which highlights the vulnerability of food-producing systems to climate change and variability. SRb is undergoing fundamental environmental, hydrologic, and socioeconomic traxisitions and represents a good illustration of sensi- tivity to climatic variations and opportunities for adaptation. This paper aims to study water resources systems under stress from cfi- mate variability and change in the Senegal River basin. The results show （1） through the compilation of available data, information and knowledge （sedimentological, climatical, geological, environmental, archeological, etc.）, the chronological consequences of cli- mate change during the past millennium in West Africa, and also （2） an analysis of the recent impacts and vulnerability to climate change in the SRb and finally （3） the adaptation strategies in the SRb in order to identify and resolve problems associated with this water scarcity and to address the potential for guaranteed agricultural production in this narrow geographic area.

Introductionb>: Meningiomas are benign tumors most localized in brain. Intraspinal meningiomas are rare and may have an intra or extradural topography. We report the case of a dorsal psammomatous meningioma revealed by sciatica. b>Case descriptionb>: We present a 58-year-old female hospitalized for bilateral painful and disabling L5 sciatica rebellious to medical treatment and physiotherapy. At physical examination, she presented a lumbar spinal syndrome without root deficit. MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) showed a borderline lumbar canal with a paramedian L4-L5 herniated disc. She undergone a first surgery a L4 decompressive laminectomy and there was no postoperative complications. The follow-up was marked by partial pain regression. Three months later, after a fall she presented low back pain and progressive worsening gait troubles. A MRI was realized and shown L3-L4, L4-L5 duct narrowing. In the Saloum region of central-western Senegal, water needs are essentially met by tapping an underground aquifer associated with the sandy-clay formations of the Continental Terminal, in contact with both the ocean to the west and the highly saline waters of the Saloum River to the north. In this estuarine and deltaic zone with its very low relief, the hydraulic loads in the water tables are generally close to zero or even negative, creating a reversal of the natural flow and encouraging saline intrusion into this system, which makes it very vulnerable. This study concerns the implementation of a numerical model of saline intrusion to provide a better understanding of the vulnerability of the water table by analyzing the variability of the freshwater/saltwater interface. The Modflow-2005 code is used to simulate saline intrusion using the SWI2 module, coupled with the GRASS (Geographic Resources Analysis Support System) software under the Linux operating system with the steep interface approach. The probable expansion of the wedge is studied in three scenarios, taking into account its position relative to the bedrock at 1 m, 5 m and 10 m. Simulations carried out under imposed potential and river conditions, based on variations in groundwater reserves using two effective porosity values, 10−1 and 10−2, show that the water table is highly vulnerable in the northwest sector. The probable expansion of the wedge increases as the storage coefficient decreases and is more marked with river conditions in the areas surrounding the Saloum River, reaching 6 km with a probability of 1. The probability of the wedge reaching a certain degree of expansion decreases from 1 to 0.5, and then cancels out as it moves inland. The probable position of the wedge is limited to 500 m or even 1 km depending on the corner around the coast to the southwest and in the southern zone. Metal trace elements (MTE) are among the most harmful micropollutants of natural waters. Eliminating them helps improve the quality and safety of drinking water and protect human health. In this work, we used mango kernel powder (MKP) as bioadsorbent material for removal of Cr (VI) from water. Uv-visible spectroscopy was used to monitor and quantify Cr (VI) during processing using the beer-Lambert formula. Some parameters such as pH, mango powder, mass and contact time were optimized to determine adsorption capacity and chromium removal rate. Adsorption kinetics, equilibrium, isotherms and thermodynamic parameters such as ΔG˚, ΔH˚, and ΔS˚, as well as FTIR were studied to better understand the Cr (VI) removal process by MKP. The adsorption capacity reached 94.87 mg/g, for an optimal contact time of 30 min at 298 K. The obtained results are in accordance with a pseudo-second order Freundlich adsorption isotherm model. Finally FTIR was used to monitor the evolution of absorption bands, while Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDS) were used to evaluate surface properties and morphology of the adsorbent.

Introduction: Mechanical valve replacement in pediatric age is a dreaded but sometimes inevitable surgery. The purpose of this study was to determine the mortality of children with mechanical valve prostheses in the short, medium and long term. Patients and Methods: This was a retrospective and descriptive study conducted at the CUOMO cardio-pediatric center at Teaching National Hospital of Fann between January 1st, 2017 and December 31st, 2021. We included, children whose age is less than or equal to 16 years of age and who have benefited from a mechanical valve replacement and with a follow-up period of more than 6 months post-operative in the CUOMO cardio-pediatric center. Patients whose age at the time of surgery was over 16 years were excluded;patients who have benefited from bioprosthesis or valvular plastic surgery alone;as well as patients for whom a follow-up of more than 6 months was not found. Statistical analyses were carried out using the SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Science) software version 18 to calculate averages and percentages. Results: We included 85 patients. The average age was 12.84 ± 2.52 years. The male gender predominated with a sex ratio of 1.65. Dyspnea was found in 96.47% of children. Pure mitral regurgitation was the most common valve disease found in 67.06%. Rheumatic etiology was noted in 87.06% of cases. Mono valve replacement was performed in 84.71% of patients and double valve replacement in 15.3% of cases. Major mechanical complications were reported in 8 patients including 5 severe aortic mismatch cases. Hemorrhagic complications were observed in 4 patients requiring surgery. Hemodynamic complications were dominated by right ventricle dysfunction in 14 patients. Supraventricular rhythm disorders were present in 11 patients and one case of ventricular tachycardia. This research studies the capability of the Weather Research and Forecasting model coupled with the Chemistry/Aerosol module(WRF-Chem)with and without parametrization to reproduce a dust storm,which was held on 27th June 2018 over Sahara *** authors use satellite observations and ground-based measurements to evaluate the WRF-Chem *** sensitivities of WRF-Chem Model are tested on the replication of haboob features with a tuned GOCART aerosol *** of simulations with satellite and ground-based observations show that WRF-Chem is able to reproduce the Aerosol Optical Depth(AOD)distribution and associated changes of haboob in the meteorological fields with temperature drops of about 9℃and wind gust 20 m·s–*** WRF-Chem Convec-tion-permitting model(CPM)shows strong 10-meter winds induced a large dust emission along the leading edge of a convective cold pool(LECCP).The CPM indicates heavy dust transported over the West African coast(16°W-10°W;6°N-21°N)which has a potential for long-distance travel on 27th June between 1100 UTC and 1500 *** daily precipitation is improved in the CPM with a spatial distribution similar to the GPM-IMERG precipitation and maxi-mum rainfall located at the right *** well as raising a large amount of dust,the haboob caused considerable dam-age along its route.

Profile of Cardiovascular Diseases of Diabetics Admitted in Fann and Dantec Cardiology Departments

Introduction: Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are the most important cause of morbidity and mortality in type 2 diabetes (T2D). The objective of this study was to describe the profile of cardiovascular diseases of diabetics admitted at the cardiology departments of Aristide Le Dantec and Fann hospitals. Patients and Methods: This was a retrospective, descriptive and analytical study conducted on January 1st and December 31st, 2020 at the Dantec and Fann cardiology departments in Dakar. We studied epidemiological, diagnostic, therapeutic and evolutionary data. The data 7 was analyzed with STATA 14 software. Results: Of the 1483 patients hospitalized in both cardiology departments, one hundred and thirty-three (133) were diabetic, the hospital frequency was 9.01%. The average age was 62.3 ± 11.2 years. The sex ratio (M/F) was 0.8. Almost half (47.4%) of patients had a duration of diabetes greater than 10 years. Cardiovascular risk factors were dominated by physical inactivity (84.2%), menopause (81.9%) and hypertension (64.7%). Heart failure was the most common clinical manifestation with 45.1%. The prevalence of acute coronary artery disease in our study was 37.59%, followed by lower limbs peripheral arterial disease (9.7%) and stroke (3%). Concerning the treatment, 119 patients were on anti-diabetic treatment. Most patients were on aspirin (79%), cholesterol-lowering drugs (78.95%) and ACE inhibitor (77.44%). Percutaneous coronary intervention was performed in 19 patients. 12.03% of patients diabetics died during hospitalization. Conclusion: Cardiovascular events are common during type 2 diabetes. Their management is important to avoid complications that can be fatal.

This study aims to examine the atmospheric conditions characterising fog phenomena on the Senegalese coast focusing on two specific instances that occurred on April 3 and April 30,*** events were detected by the LIDAR Ceilometer installed at LPAOSF/ESP/UCAD and confirmed on the METARs of the meteorological stations at Dakar and Diass *** LIDAR’s backscatter signal showed that the fog of April 3 started around midnight with a vertical extension at 100 m altitude and dissipated around 10 *** April 30 event characterized by a good vertical extension from the surface up to 300 m above sea level,was triggered just after 2 *** lasted around 3 *** results showed that a decrease in temperature,accompanied by an increase in humidity and light wind,is favorable for the triggering and persistence of *** Level Pressure(SLP)anomaly fields show two distinct *** April 3 event was characterized by a zonal dipole of SLP anomalies between the Sahara and the northern Senegalese coast,while the April 30 event was characterized by a meridional dipole between the Sahara and the Gulf of Guinea area as far as the equatorial Atlantic.A weakening of the pressure around the study area was observed in both cases,allowing moisture advection to favor the onset of *** hovmoller diagrams of relative humidity and wind show that a good vertical extension of humidity associated with a westerly wind in the lower layers plays an important role in the formation and persistence of *** presence of dry air associated with a weak easterly wind in the middle layers could explain the low vertical extension of the fog on April 3.A strong wind in the lower layers would be responsible for the premature dissipation of the April 30 fog.
