Peperomia pellucida(L.) Kunth and eye diseases: A review on phytochemistry, pharmacology and toxicology

Peperomia pellucida(L.) Kunth is a medicinal plant used to manage inflammatory illnesses such as conjunctivitis, and gastrointestinal and respiratory tract disorders in tropical and subtropical ***, little is known about its pharmacological mechanism of action against eye diseases. This review aims to critically discuss the phytochemistry, pharmacology and toxicology of P. pellucida as well as its roles in the treatment of cataract, glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy. Recent developments in the uses of P. pellucida for healthcare and nutraceutical products by the pharmaceutical industry are also covered in this review. For this review, a literature search was performed with PubMed, ScienceDirect, SciFinder Scholar and Scopus databases, using relevant keywords. Among the various phytochemicals identified from P. pellucida, β-caryophyllene, carotol, dillapiole, ellagic acid, pellucidin A, phytol and vitexin exhibit strong pharmacological activities within the mitogen-activated protein kinase and nuclear factor-κB signalling pathways in inflammatory eye diseases. The antihypertensive, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant,antihyperglycemic and anti-angiogenic activities displayed by P. pellucida extracts in many in vitro,in vivo and clinical studies suggest its potential role in the management of inflammatory eye diseases.P. pellucida extract was non-toxic against normal cell lines but displayed mild toxicity in animal *** growing public interest in P. pellucida has inspired the nutraceutical and pharmaceutical industries to process the plant into health products. Although the potential pharmacological mechanisms against eye diseases have been summarized, further studies of the interactions among constituent phytochemicals from P. pellucida within various signalling pathways shall support the use of the plant as an alternative therapeutic source.

An integrated approach for machine-learning-based system identification of dynamical systems under control:application towards the model predictive control of a highly nonlinear reactor system

Advanced model-based control strategies,e.g.,model predictive control,can offer superior control of key process variables for multiple-input multiple-output *** quality of the system model is critical to controller performance and should adequately describe the process dynamics across its operating range while remaining amenable to fast *** work articulates an integrated system identification procedure for deriving black-box nonlinear continuous-time multiple-input multiple-output system models for nonlinear model predictive *** showcase this approach,five candidate models for polynomial and interaction features of both output and manipulated variables were trained on simulated data and integrated into a nonlinear model predictive controller for a highly nonlinear continuous stirred tank reactor *** procedure successfully identified system models that enabled effective control in both servo and regulator problems across wider operating *** controllers also had reasonable per-iteration times of ca.0.1 *** demonstration of how such system models could be identified for nonlinear model predictive control without prior knowledge of system dynamics opens further possibilities for direct data-driven methodologies for model-based control which,in the face of process uncertainties or modelling limitations,allow rapid and stable control over wider operating ranges.

Cu2O-templated fabrication of Ni(OH)2·0.75H2O hollow tubes for electrocatalytic oxygen evolution reaction

Cu2O is an ideal template material for the preparation of transition metal hydroxide/oxyhydroxides with oxygen evolution reaction(OER) enhanced catalytic performance. Here, inspired by Pearson’s principle, Cu2O wires were prepared and used as a sacrificial template to prepare Ni(OH)2·0.75H2O hollow tubes(Ni(OH)2HTs) with highly improved surface roughness. Benefiting from unique structural advantages, the Ni(OH)2HTs showed excellent catalytic activity, rapid kinetics and a long-term stability as the OER catalyst, where an overpotential of only 207mV was required to drive a current density of 10 mA cm-2, an ideal kinetics with a Tafel slope as 79.8 mV dec-1was calculated, and no obvious attenuation in chronoamperometry was discovered after operation for 24 h. This paper provides a novel template-assisted strategy to prepare high-performance transition metal-based OER catalysts possessing hollow and tubular structures.

The dynamic traveling salesman problem(DTSP)is significant in logistics distribution in real-world applications in smart cities,but it is uncertain and difficult to *** paper proposes a scheme library-based ant colony optimization(ACO)with a two-optimization(2-opt)strategy to solve the DTSP *** work is novel and contributes to three aspects:problemmodel,optimization framework,and ***,in the problem model,traditional DTSP models often consider the change of travel distance between two nodes over time,while this paper focuses on a special DTSP model in that the node locations change dynamically over ***,in the optimization framework,the ACO algorithm is carried out in an offline optimization and online application framework to efficiently reuse the historical information to help fast respond to the dynamic *** framework of offline optimization and online application is proposed due to the fact that the environmental change inDTSPis caused by the change of node location,and therefore the newenvironment is somehowsimilar to certain previous *** way,in the offline optimization,the solutions for possible environmental changes are optimized in advance,and are stored in a mode scheme *** the online application,when an environmental change is detected,the candidate solutions stored in the mode scheme library are reused via ACO to improve search efficiency and reduce computational ***,in the algorithm design,the ACO cooperates with the 2-opt strategy to enhance search *** evaluate the performance of ACO with 2-opt,we design two challenging DTSP cases with up to 200 and 1379 nodes and compare them with other ACO and genetic *** experimental results show that ACO with 2-opt can solve the DTSPs effectively.

BACKGROUND: Etiologic organism is not frequently isolated despite multiple blood and lfuid cultures during management of pyogenic liver abscess (PLA). Such culture negative pyogen-ic liver abscess (CNPLA) is routinely managed by antibiotics targeted toKlebsiella pneumoniae. In this study, we evaluated the outcomes of such clinical practice. METHODS: All the patients with CNPLA andKlebsiella pneu-moniaePLA (KPPLA) admitted from January 2003 to Decem-ber 2011 were included in the study. A retrospective review of medical records was performed and demographic, clinical and outcome data were collected. RESULTS: A total of 528 patients were treated as CNPLA or KPPLA over the study period. CNPLA presented more com-monly with abdominal pain (P=0.024). KPPLA was more com-mon in older age (P=0.029) and was associated with thrombo-cytopenia (P=0.001), elevated creatinine (P=0.002), bilirubin (P=0.001), alanine aminotransferase (P=0.006) and C-reactive protein level (P=0.036). CNPLA patients tend to have anemia (P=0.015) and smaller abscess (P=0.008). There was no differ-ence in hospital stay (15.7 vs 16.8 days) or mortality (14.0% vs 11.0%). No patients required surgical drainage after initiation of medical therapy. CONCLUSION: Despite demographic and clinical differences between CNPLA and KPPLA, overall outcomes are not different.

For catalytic materials,the characteristics of one-dimension and hollowness are the promotion factors for their full presentation of catalytic activity,and through a template-as sis ted method,both above superiorities can be fused ***,we proposed a novel strategy inspired by Pearson's principle with Cu_(2)O wires as templates,and prepared FeOOH hollow tubes,which covered by FeOOH *** applied as oxygen evolution reaction(OER)catalyst,the FeOOH scaly hollow tubes(FeOOH SHTs)showed outstanding catalytic activity with a low overpotential of 245 mV to drive a current density of10 mA·cm^(-2),excellent kinetics manifesting as a low Tafel slope of 46.9 mV·dec^(-1),and robust *** work provides a new synthesis strategy for an ideal OER catalyst,FeOOH,with high inherent activity and enhances the feasibility to broaden the design ideas of transition metalbased catalysts.

Coordinated regulation of the mitochondrial retrograde response by circadian clock regulators and ANAC017

Dear Editor,Zika virus(ZIKV),a pathogen within the genus Flavivirus,family Flaviviridae brought an international public health emergency due to its association with neonatal microcephaly case(Platt and Miner 2017).Currently the most reliable diagnostic test is PCR detection of ZIKV RNA from body fluid ***,the short viremia window and asymptomatic/mild infections greatly reduce the success rate of PCRs(de Vasconcelos et al.2018).
