Interleukin-1 receptor-associated kinase 4(IRAK4)is a pivotal enzyme in the Toll-like receptor(TLR)/MYD88 dependent signaling pathway,which is highly activated in rheumatoid arthritis tissues and activated B cell-like diffuse large B-cell lymphoma(ABC-DLBCL).Inflammatory responses followed by IRAK4 activation promote B-cell proliferation and aggressiveness of ***,proviral integration site for Moloney murine leukemia virus 1(PIM1)functions as an anti-apoptotic kinase in propagation of ABC-DLBCL with ibrutinib *** developed a dual IRAK4/PIM1 inhibitor KIC-0101 that potently suppresses the NF-κB pathway and proinflammatory cytokine induction in vitro and in *** rheumatoid arthritis mouse models,treatment with KIC-0101 significantly ameliorated cartilage damage and ***-0101 inhibited the nuclear translocation of NF-κB and activation of JAK/STAT pathway in *** addition,KIC-0101 exhibited an anti-tumor effect on ibrutinib-resistant cells by synergistic dual suppression of TLR/MYD88-mediated NF-κB pathway and PIM1 *** results suggest that KIC-0101 is a promising drug candidate for autoimmune diseases and ibrutinib-resistant B-cell lymphomas.

A novel heterodimeric cytokine consisting of IL-17 and IL-17F regulates inflammatory responses

CD4+ helper T (TH) cells play crucial roles in immune responses. Recently a novel subset of TH cells, termed TH,TH17 or inflammatory TH (THi), has been identified as critical mediators of tissue inflammation. These cells produceIL-17 (also called IL-17 A) and IL-17F, two most homologous cytokines sharing similar regulations. Here we reportthat when overexpressed in 293T cells, IL-17 and IL-17F form not only homodimers but also heterodimers, which wename as IL-17A/F. Fully differentiated mouse THi cells also naturally secrete IL-17A/F as well as IL-17 and IL-17Fhomodimeric cytokines. Recombinant IL-17A/F protein exhibits intermediate levels of potency in inducing IL-6 andKC (CXCL1) as compared to homodimeric cytokines. IL-17A/F regulation of IL-6 and KC expression is dependent onIL-17RA and TRAF6. Thus, IL-17A/F cytokine represents another mechanism whereby T cells regulate inflammatoryresponses and may serve as a novel target for treating various immune-mediated diseases.

IL-22 is a novel cytokine in the IL-10 family that functions to promote innate immunity of tissues against *** CD4+helper T lymphocytes(TH)were found as a source of IL-22,the regulation of this cytokine has beenpoorly ***,we show that IL-22 is expressed at both mRNA and protein levels by a novel subset of THcells that also makes ***-22 and IL-17 were found to be coordinately regulated by TGFβ and IL-6 during TH dif-ferentiation by real-time PCR as well as ELISA ***,IL-22 does not regulate TH differentiation; exogenousIL-22 or an IL-22 antagonist had no effect on TH *** data demonstrate a novel cytokine expressed byIL-17-producing T cells,and suggest interaction and synergy of IL-22 and IL-17 signaling pathways in tissue inflam-mation and autoimmune diseases.

Performance Study of a Hybrid Heat Pump Dryer based on Numerical Analysis and Experimental Set-up

Seafood,especially sea cucumbers and oysters are an expensive delicacy in several Asian *** sun-drying of these products takes 3 to 4 days and fetches a lower market *** industrial drying machines used for seafood drying are unable to dry sea cucumbers and oysters without texture and color degradation as they are delicate,temperature-sensitive and have longer drying *** economical drying system that does not cause texture or color degradation is the heat pump drying system and is commonly applied for agriculture and fabric *** this study,the heat pump technology is applied to develop two hybrid dryer models(bottom discharge and front discharge)to dry shellfish and sea cucumbers in large scale for storage and *** model is tested in a laboratory-scale with wet sponges as input material for its dehumidification capacity and the power consumed to attain the target *** front discharge model is found to have rapid drying capability and *** fluid dynamic tools are used to study the hot air flow behavior and flow uniformity inside the drying *** front discharge model showed smooth uniform flow over the trays with fewer losses in the flow *** front discharge model with higher drying rate,lower power consumption and uniform airflow distribution over the trays is chosen for the industrial-scale design.

Electrophoretic Deposition of Oxide Nanoparticles for Electron Emission Enhancement

Four oxide nanoparticles,such as yttrium oxide,lanthanum oxide,cerium oxide and zirconium oxide were coated on rhenium filaments by an electrophoretic deposition *** oxide coatings were examined by scanning electron microscopy,and electron emission characteristics of the oxide-coated rhenium were studied to find alternative oxide materials for replacing the hazardous thorium *** four oxides tested in this work,yttrium oxide and lanthanum oxide coated rhenium showed enhanced electron emission compared with an uncoated ***,lanthanum oxide coating evaporated too quickly in a vacuum chamber,and hence yttrium oxide was found to be the only alternative material for use in a routine mass *** optimum coating thickness of the yttrium oxide and lanthanum oxide was around 20 μm.

Utilization of nano/micro-size iron recovered from the fine fraction of automobile shredder residue for phenol degradation in water

The study investigates the magnetic separation of Fe from automobile shredder residue （ASR）（〈 0.25 mm） and its application for phenol degradation in water. The magnetically separated Fe was subjected to an ultrasonically assisted acid treatment, and the degradation of phenol in an aqueous solution using nano/micro-size Fe （n/m Fe） was investigated in an effort to evaluate the possibility of utilizing n/m Fe to remove phenol from wastewater. The prepared n/m Fe was analyzed by scanning electron microscopy （SEM） and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy （FTIR）. The eflects of the dosages ot n/mFe, pH, concentration of phenol and amount of H2O2 on phenol removal were evaluated. The results confirm that the phenol degradation rate was improved with an increase in the dosages of n/mFe and H2O2; however, the rate is reduced when the phenol concentration is higher. The degradation of phenol by n/mFe followed the pseudo-first-order kinetics. The value of the reaction rate constant （k）was increased as the amounts of n/m Fe and H2O2 increased. Conversely, the value of k was reduced when the concentration of phenol was increased. The probable mechanism behind the degradation of phenol by n/m Fe is the oxidation of phenol through hydroxyl radicals which are produced during the reaction between H2O2 and n/m Fe.

Self-expandable metal stents for choledocholithiasis in Billroth II gastrectomy patients

Background: Efficient ampullary intervention is essential for endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography(ERCP) in patients with a prior Billroth II gastrectomy. We retrospectively evaluated the safety and effectiveness of ampullary intervention using fully covered self-expandable metal stents(FCSEMSs) for the management of common bile duct(CBD) stones in a subset of patients with a history of Billroth II gastrectomy. Methods: This retrospective analysis involved patients with a prior Billroth II gastrectomy who underwent ampullary intervention with FCSEMSs for the management of CBD stones. The factors associated with FCSEMSs placement, treatment success, and procedural complications were analyzed. Results: A group of 15 patients(10 males; median age, 78 years) underwent biliary metal stent placement for high degree of CBD angulation(6), small or flat papilla with unclear margin(5), current use of double antiplatelet agents or an anticoagulant(2), unwanted instrumentation of the cystic duct(1), and insecure position of the scope(1). Ampullary intervention with FCSEMSs was successful in all patients. After dilating the ampulla of Vater and building a durable conduit with FCSEMSs immediately, CBD stones were removed successfully from all patients in a single session. A mild post-ERCP pancreatitis occurred in one patient, who recovered without complications. Conclusion: Ampullary intervention with FCSEMSs is safe and effective for the management of CBD stones in a subset of patients with a history of Billroth II gastrectomy.

Dependence of porosity,charge recombination kinetics and photovoltaic performance on annealing condition of TiO2 films

Effect of annealing temperature, time of nanocrystalline TiO2film on porosity, electron transport/recombination and photovoltaic performance on dyesensitized solar cell（DSSC） had been investigated in this article. Photocurrent density was slightly higher as annealing at 550°C compared to those of annealing at 450°C and 500°C under the given annealing time of 60 min, which was correlated with the amount of adsorbed dye. Thermogravimetric analysis showed there was a more weight loss between 500°C and 550°C, which revealed there were more sites for dye adsorption. Given the annealing temperature of 550°C, as annealing time varied from 60 to 90 and 120 min, results showed that the average size of pore and surface area decreased with longer annealing time, which deteriorated photocurrent density due to less dye loading. Electron diffusion rate remained almost unchanged regardless of annealing ***, electron recombination was influenced by annealing condition, it became slower with the increase of the annealing temperature under the given annealing time. In the contray, the electron recombination developed faster for the longer annealing time at a given annealing temperature. These results suggested that heat treatment of TiO2film at 550°C for 60 min in air would be the optimal annealing condition to achieve high efficiency DSSC.

Clinical characteristics of patients in their forties who underwent surgical resection for colorectal cancer in Korea

BACKGROUND The proportion of young patients with colorectal cancer(CRC),especially in their 40s,is increasing *** To confirm the clinical characteristics of such patients,we planned a study comparing them to patients in their 30s and *** Patients undergoing primary resection for CRC,patients in their 30s,40s and 50s were included in the *** and tumor characteristics,and perioperative and oncologic outcomes were *** Most clinical characteristics of 451(10.5%)patients in their 40s were more similar to those of patients in their 30s than those in their *** pathology data,there were more metastatic lesions(30s vs 40s vs 50s;17.5%vs 21.1%vs 14.9%,P=0.012)in patients in their *** was a trend toward less frequent K-ras mutations among patients in their 40s(48.5%vs 33.3%vs 44.5%,P=0.064).The proportion of patients receiving postoperative chemotherapy was also significantly greater among patients in their 40s(58.3%vs 63.9%vs 56.3%,P=0.032).Five-year overall survival(OS)and disease-free survival(DFS)did not differ between the three groups(5-year OS,92.2%vs 89.8%vs 92.2%,P=0.804;5-year total DFS,98.6%vs 95.7%vs 96.1%,P=0.754;5-year local DFS,98.6%vs 94.3%vs 94.9%,P=0.579;5-year systemic DFS,86.4%vs 87.9%vs 86.4%,P=0.908).CONCLUSION Patients with CRC in their 40s showed significantly more numerous metastatic *** oncologic outcome of stage 1-3 patients in their 40s was not inferior compared to that of those in their 30s and 50s.
