Gaoligong Mountain(hereafter,GLGM)is located at the intersection of Myanmar and China’s Yunnan Province and Xizang Zizhiqu,and spans three globally significant biodiversity hotspots:the Himalayas,Indo-Burma,and the Mountains of Southwest *** surveys of mammals in this ecologically important region have a long history,there is no comprehensive systematic checklist and distribution account of the mammals of ***,we compiled a mammal species checklist of GLGM based on thorough field investigations and literature *** also examined specimen collections and applied camera trapping surveys to explore the region’s mammal diversity and distribution *** recorded 212 mammal species in nine orders,33 families,and 119 genera,which accounts for 30.5%of China’s mammal species,and a high proportion of nationally protected(50)and globally threatened(29)*** species richness showed a symmetrical unimodal curve along the elevation gradient,peaking at intermediate elevations(2000 to 2500 m above sea level(asl)),and increasing generally from south to north,slightly higher in the east slope than in the *** analysis and non-metric multidimensional scaling revealed three distinct elevational assemblages(3500 m asl)and significant south-to-north variation,but no substantial differences between the east and west *** GLGM present a unique conservation value due to the high proportions of rare and endangered mammal species,complex faunal composition,high endemism,and being the distribution boundary for many *** study is an important phased account of mammal diversity in GLGM and makes a prospect for future research.

A NEW SMOOTHING EQUATIONS APPROACH TO THE NONLINEAR COMPLEMENTARITY PROBLEMS

The nonlinear complementarity problem can be reformulated as a nonsmooth equation. In this paper we propose a new smoothing Newton algorithm for the solution of the nonlinear complementarity problem by constructing a new smoothing approximation function. Global and local superlinear convergence results of the algorithm are obtained under suitable conditions. Numerical experiments confirm the good theoretical properties of the algorithm.

Removal of Arsenic(V) from Aqueous Solutions by Lanthanum-loaded Zeolite

A new adsorption process for the removal of As（V） ion from aqueous solutions is studied in this paper using lanthanum-loaded zeolite. The removal efficiency of different adsorbents, activated alumina and activated carbon are obtained in the study for comparison. The results show that lanthanum-loaded zeolite is an effective adsorbent for the removal of As（V） from aqueous solutions. Then, the pH effect and regeneration of modified zeolite on the As（V） removing efficiency are also assessed. It functions with a wide range of pH （2-8）. After adsorption, zeolite adsorbed with As（V） ions can be regenerated successfully with 1 M NaOH. Based on the data obtained, an adsorption mechanism and the possible complex structure are tentatively presented. Compare to other adsorbents, easy availability of this adsorbent, excellent adsorption capacity, wide optimum pH range, and regeneration are expected to be utilized in practical operations.

Recently,a work jointly studied by Ling Li and coworkers1 was published in Nature Materials,describing a reconfigurable DNA origami nanodevice designed to regulate CD95 death-inducing signaling of immune *** researchers utilized the DNA origami nanodevice to establish selective local immune tolerance and demonstrated its ability to alleviate rheumatoid arthritis(RA)in the inflamed synovial tissue of mice without causing any obvious side effects(Fig.1).This approach presents a novel idea for the development of drug interventions involving ligandreceptor interactions.

Detection of the interictal epileptic discharges based on wavelet bispectrum interaction and recurrent neural network

Detection of interictal epileptic discharges(IED) events in the EEG recordings is a critical indicator for detecting and diagnosing epileptic seizures. We propose a key technology to extract the most important features related to epileptic seizures and identifies the IED events based on the interaction between frequencies of EEG with the help of a two-level recurrent neural network. The proposed classification network is trained and validated using the largest publicly available EEG dataset from Temple University *** results clarified that the interaction between β and β bands, β and γ bands, γ and γ bands,δ and δ bands, θ and α bands, and θ and β bands have a significant effect on detecting the IED ***, the obtained results showed that the proposed technique detects 95.36% of the IED epileptic events with a false-alarm rate of 4.52% and a precision of 87.33% by using only 25 significant features. Furthermore,the proposed system requires only 164 ms for detecting a 1-s IED event which makes it suitable for real-time applications.

Ozonation of aromatic monomer compounds in water: factors determining reaction outcomes

For aromatic monomer compounds (AMCs), ozonation outcomes were usually predicted by the substituents of the benzene ring based on the electron inductive effect. However, the predicted results were occasionally unreliable for complex substituents, and other factors caused concern. In this study, p-chloronitrobenzene (p-CNB) and ibuprofen (IBP) were selected for ozonation. According to the electron inductive theory, p-CNB should be less oxidizable, but the opposite was true. The higher rates of p-CNB were due to various sources of assistance. First, the hydroxyl radical (•OH) contributed 90 % to p-CNB removal at pH 7.0, while its contribution to IBP removal was 50 %. Other contributions came from molecular O3 oxidation. Second, p-CNB achieved 40 % of the total organic carbon (TOC) removal and fewer by-product types and quantities, when compared to the results for IBP. Third, the oxidation of p-CNB started with hydroxyl substitution reactions on the benzene ring;then, the ring opened. However, IBP was initially oxidized mainly on the butane branched chain, with a chain-shortening process occurring before the ring opened. Finally, the degradation pathway of p-CNB was single and consumed fewer oxidants. However, both branches of IBP were attacked simultaneously, and three degradation pathways that relied on more oxidants were proposed. All of these factors were determinants of the rapid removal of p-CNB.
