Reliability Based Multi-Objective Thermodynamic Cycle Optimisation of Turbofan Engines Using Luus-Jaakola Algorithm

Aircraft engine design is a complicated process,as it involves huge number of *** design process begins with parametric cycle *** is crucial to determine the optimum values of the cycle parameters that would give a robust design in the early phase of engine development,to shorten the design cycle for cost saving and man-hour *** obtain a robust solution,optimisation program is often being executed more than once,especially in Reliability Based Design Optimisations(RBDO)with Monte-Carlo Simulation(MCS)scheme for complex systems which require thousands to millions of optimisation loops to be *** paper presents a fast heuristic technique to optimise the thermodynamic cycle of two-spool separated flow turbofan engines based on energy and probability of failure criteria based on Luus-Jaakola algorithm(LJ).A computer program called Turbo Jet Engine Optimiser v2.0(TJEO-2.0)has been developed to perform the optimisation *** program is made up of inner and outer loops,where LJ is used in the outer loop to determine the design variables while parametric cycle analysis of the engine is done in the inner loop to determine the engine ***-Hypercube-Sampling(LHS)technique is used to sample the design and model variations for uncertainty *** results show that optimisation without reliability criteria may lead to high probability of failure of more than 11%on *** thrust obtained with uncertainty quantification was about 25%higher than the one without uncertainty quantification,at the expense of less than 3%of fuel *** proposed algorithm can solve the turbofan RBDO problem within 3 min.

Evidence for DNA Damage as a Biological Link Between Diabetes and Cancer

Objective： This review examines the evidence that： Diabetes is a state of DNA damage; pathophysiological factors in diabetes can cause DNA damage： DNA damage can cause mutations： and DNA mutation is linked to carcinogenesis. Data Sources： We retrieved information from the PubMed database up to January, 2014, using various search terms and their combinations including DNA damage, diabetes, cancer, high glucose, hyperglycemia, free fatty acids, palmitic acid, advanced glycation end products, mutation and carcinogenesis. Study Selection： We included data from peer-reviewed journals and a textbook printed in English on relationships between DNA damage and diabetes as well as pathophysiological factors in diabetes. Publications on relationships among DNA damage, mutagenesis, and carcinogenesis, were also reviewed. We organized this information into a conceptual framework to explain the possible causal relationship between DNA damage and carcinogenesis in diabetes. Results： There are a large amount of data supporting the view that DNA mutation is a typical feature in carcinogenesis. Patients with type 2 diabetes have increased production of reactive oxygen species, reduced levels of antioxidant capacity, and increased levels of DNA damage. The pathophysiological factors and metabolic milieu in diabetes can cause DNA damage such as DNA strand break and base modification （i.e., oxidation）. Emerging experimental data suggest that signal pathways （i.e., Akt/tuberin） link diabetes to DNA damage. This collective evidence indicates that diabetes is a pathophysiological state of oxidative stress and DNA damage which can lead to various types of mutation to cause aberration in cells and thereby increased cancer risk. Conclusions： This review highlights the interrelationships amongst diabetes, DNA damage, DNA mutation and carcinogenesis, which suggests that DNA damage can be a biological link between diabetes and cancer.

Improved Dual-image Quality with Reversible Data Hiding Using Translocation and Switching Strategy

Dual-image reversible data hiding(RDH)is a technique for hiding important *** technology can be used to safely deliver secret mes-sages to the recipient through dual images in an open network without being easily *** recipient of the image must receive the two stego-images before the secret message can be completely *** is one of the main advantages of data hiding technology;to increase the imperceptibility,the quality requirements of the stego-images are relatively important.A dual ste-ganographic image RDH method,called a DS-CF scheme that can achieve a bet-ter steganographic image quality using the center folding(CF)*** this paper,we developed a translocation and switching strategy(TaS)to shorten the distances between the stego-pixel coordinates and the cover pixel coordinates after information being *** with the DS-CF scheme,our proposed DS-TaS scheme can effectively improve the quality of the steganographic images at the same level of embedding *** experimental results show that the PSNR of our DS-TaS scheme at k=1 was 55.66 dB,which is an increase of 1.5 dB,and is 51.43 dB for k=2,46.66 dB for k=3,and 40.91 dB for k=*** addition,the PSNR values of the stego images was increased by 1.5,0.29,0.29,and 0.19 dB,*** shows that our proposed dual-image RDH method can optimize the visual quality of the stego-images and is better than many other dual-image RDH techniques.

Acrosome reaction in the cumulus oophorus revisited:involvement of a novel sperm-released factor NYD-SP8

Fertilization is a process involving multiple steps that lead to the final fusion of one sperm and the oocyte to form the *** of the steps,acrosome reaction(AR),is an exocytosis process,during which the outer acrosome membrane fuses with the inner sperm membrane,leading to the release of acrosome enzymes that facilitate sperm penetration of the egg *** AR has been investigated for decades,the initial steps of AR in vivo,however,remain largely unknown.A well elucidated model holds the view that AR occurs on the surface of the zona pellucida(ZP),which is triggered by binding of sperm with one of the ZP glycosylated protein,***,this model fails to explain the large number of‘falsely’acrosome-reacted sperms found within the cumulus layer in many species *** the emerging evidence of cross-talk between sperm and cumulus cells,the potential significance of AR in the cumulus oophorus,the outer layer of the egg,has been gradually *** we review the acrosome status within the cumulus layer,the cross-talk between sperm and cumulus cells with the involvement of a novel spermreleased factor,NYD-SP8,and re-evaluate the importance and physiological significance of the AR in the cumulus in fertilization.

Typhoon-dominated Influence on Wood Debris Distribution and Transportation in a High Gradient Headwater Catchment

Wood debris is an important component of mountain streams. It causes serious damage and renders difficulty of water resource management in Taiwan. In this study, the quantity of wood debris and variation of migratory wood debris during flood events were examined. The downstream of Gaoshan Creek and Qijiawan Creek, located at Central Taiwan, was selected as the study area. The distribution and dynamic of wood debris in a high gradient headwater catchment were quantified using field surveys. A formula of critical depth for wood debris entrainment was used to evaluate the wood debris migration during three flooding events. In the study area, wood abundance and unit volume increased downstream, and wood density decreased downstream within a channel network. The channel morphology, riparian vegetation, and wood debris characteristics were found to influence the wood storage. As a result, the wood debris has an irregular accumulative distribution in the steep stream, and it migrates easily in the stream because of a high flow discharge. Strong relationships between the channel width and wood debris variables are discovered. Moreover, wood debris has a tendency to accumulate at sites with low stream power and wood debris dams, topographical notches, and unique geological structures. Our findings assist in the understanding of the effects of channel characteristics on distributions of wood debris in steep stream systems.

Objective To investigate the in vivo immunomodulatory and anti-tumor mechanisms of the combined treatment of novel Four-Herb formula(4HF)and doxorubicin in triple-negative breast cancer(TNBC).Methods Murine-derived triple-negative mammary carcinoma cell line,4T1 cells,was cultured and inoculated into mouse mammary ***-six mice were randomly assigned into 6 groups(n=11 in ench):naive,control,LD 4HF(low dose 4HF),HD 4HF(high dose 4HF),LD 4HF+D(low dose and doxorubicin),and D(doxorubicin).Apart from the naive group,each mouse received subcutaneous inoculation with 5×10^(5)4T1 cells resuspended in 100µL of normal saline in the mammary fat *** from the day of tumor cell inoculation,tumors were grown for 6 *** LD and HD groups received daily oral gavage of 658 and 2,630 mg/kg 4HF,*** LD 4HF+D group received daily oral gavage of 658 mg/kg 4HF and weekly intraperitoneal injection of doxorubicin(5 mg/kg).The D group received weekly intraperitoneal injections of doxorubicin(5 mg/kg).The treatment naive mice received daily oral gavage of 0.2 mL double distilled water and 0.1 mL normal saline via intraperitoneal injection once a *** control group received daily oral gavage of 0.2 mL double-distilled *** treatment period was 30 *** the end of treatment,mice organs were harvested to analyze immunological activities via immunophenotyping,gene and multiplex analysis,histological staining,and gut microbiota *** Mice treated with the combination of 4HF and doxorubicin resulted in significantly reduced tumor and spleen burdens(P<0.05),altered the hypoxia and overall immune lymphocyte landscape,and manipulated gut microbiota to favor the anti-tumor immunological ***,immunosuppressive genes,cytokines,and chemokines such as C-C motif chemokine 2 and interleukin-10 of tumors were significantly downregulated(P<0.05).4HF-doxorubicin combination treatment demonstrated synergetic activities and was most effective

Dimension and frequency of bar formation in a braided river

This paper presents flume and field observations of a bank-confined braided *** features,including plan form configuration,channel width,and main channel migration,were examined by a series of *** measurements of channel morphology,provided a basis to estimate the relationship between noncumulative frequency of bars and bar *** results from the Dajia River,located in Central Western Taiwan,were presented to provide a reference data set for comparing the laboratory and field *** results indicate that the relationship between bar length and width can be predicted by a simple best-fit power function relating to self-similarity *** Hurst index by Walsh and Hicks(2002) provides acceptable predictions of the bar length and width observed in the experiments and confirmed by the field *** and field results both show that large river width yields a uniform distribution of bar areas with the similar discharge,leading to a large value of exponent(ft) in the *** river width is confirmed to be a critical parameter in the main channel shift.A small increase in channel width likely increased rapidly the shift cycle.

Data-Driven Prediction of Mechanical Properties in Support of Rapid Certification of Additively Manufactured Alloys

Malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH) is a pleomorphic mesenchynal sarcoma. It is uncommonly arises primarily from the intra-peritoneal cavity. Primary peritoneal MFH with tumor bleeding and rupture is rare. We describe the imaging features of a 70-year-old patient presenting with ruptured hemorrhagic peritoneal MFH at subhepatic area,accompanied by massive hemoperitoneum,mimicking a ruptured pedunculated hepatocellular carcinoma. Computed tomography (CT) revealed a large heterogeneous enhanced subhepatic mass with adjacent liver,gallbladder and colon invasion. Tumor hemorrhage and rupture complicated with peritoneal seeding and massive bloody ascites were also detected. Angiography showed a hypervascular tumor fed by enlarged right hepatic arteries,cystic artery and omental branches of gastroepiploic artery. The patient underwent laparotomy for tumor resection,but the tumor recurred one month after operation. To our knowledge,the CT appearance of ruptured intraperitoneal MFH complicated by hemoperitoneum has not been previously described.
