Insulin resistance in H pylori infection and its association with oxidative stress

AIM: To determine the insulin resistance (IR) and oxidative status in H pylori infection and to find out if there is any relationship between these parameters and insulin resistance. METHODS: Fifty-five H pylori positive and 48 H pylori negative patients were enrolled. The homeostasis model assessment (HOMA) was used to assess insulin resistance. Serum total antioxidant capacity (TAC), total oxidant status (TOS) and oxidative stress index (OSI) were determined in all subjects. RESULTS: The total antioxidant capacity was significantly lower in H pylori positive group than in H pylori negative group (1.36 ± 0.33 and 1.70 ± 0.50, respectively; P < 0.001), while the total oxidant status and oxidative stress index were significantly higher in H pylori positive group than in H pylori negative group (6.79 ± 3.40 and 5.08 ± 0.95, and 5.42 ± 3.40 and 3.10 ± 0.92, respectively; P < 0.001). Insulin resistance was significantly higher in H pylori positive group than in H pylori negative group (6.92 ± 3.86 and 3.61 ± 1.67, res- pectively; P < 0.001). Insulin resistance was found to be significantly correlated with total antioxidant capacity (r = -0.251, P < 0.05), total oxidant status (r = 0.365, P < 0.05), and oxidative stress index (r = 0.267, P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Insulin resistance seems to be associated with increased oxidative stress in H pylori infection. Further studies are needed to clarify the mechanisms underlying this association and elucidate the effectof adding antioxidant vitamins to H pylori eradication therapy on insulin resistance during H pylori infection.

Mapping of energy potential through annual crop residues in Turkey

The objective of this study was to determine the annual crop residue potential in terms of types,quantities and mapping in *** calorific values of agricultural residues were determined by calorimeter according to ASTM D 5865 Standard Test Method for Coal and Coke *** this study,the energy potential of annual crop residues was evaluated by ArcGIS^(TM) which is a geographical information system *** total amount of unused annual crop residues was approximately 15.24 Mt/*** was found that the total calorific value of the field crop residues was around 268 PJ/a for the 2012 production period in *** major crops included in the ratio of the total calorific value were maize(45.81%),wheat(21.30%),sunflower(15.10%)and cotton(18.1%).The amount of CO_(2) emitted into the atmosphere can be reduced by 30 Mt/a year through the use of agricultural residues.

Determination of biogas production potential from animal manure and GHG emission abatement in Turkey

This study was aimed to determine biogas amount and the energy value which could be made from animal manure in *** this purpose,biogas potential was calculated with the number of dairy cattle and laying hens taking into consideration,which have high availability *** has a total of about 8.9 million dairy cattle and 98 million laying *** total 92.1 million tons of manure is obtained from these *** are 89.2 million tons of cattle manure and 2.9 million tons of laying hens *** 1.6 billion m3 of biogas can be produced from the usable amount of this *** heating value of biogas produced from this manure is about 36.7 *** values can provide 1.1%of Turkey’s annual energy consumption(80.5 Mtoe).The distribution of these calculated data by province was mapped using a GIS Software’s mapping *** provinces are ranked according to the amount of biogas production,the top 10 are Konya,Erzurum,İzmir,Balıkesir,Kars,Afyon,Diyarbakır,Aydın,Ankara and Ağrı.Furthermore,the greenhouse gas(GHG)emission abatement was calculated for demonstrating the environmental benefits of the biogas production from animal *** was determined that the CO2 emission abatement annually ranging between 17.2-25.3 million tons could be provided with the evaluation of biogas potential which was calculated.

Glabridin Relaxes Vascular Smooth Muscles by Activating BK_(Ca) Channels and Inhibiting Phosphodiesterase in Human Saphenous Vein

The aim of the current study was to investigate the pharmacological activity of glabridinon the isolated human saphenous vein (SV) and explore the underlying mechanisms. Samples of patients' SVs were removed during bypass surgery, and 4-mm lengths of the vessels were placedin Krebs solution at ±4℃ and hung in an isolated organ bath to assess their contraction/relaxationresponses. The contraction/relaxation responses were recorded to observe if the cyclic guanosinemonophosphate (cGMP)/protein kinase G (PKG) pathway mediates the relaxant effect of glabridinafter treatment with blockers like ODQ (a guanylate cyclase inhibitor), KT5823 (a PKG inhibitor),isobutylmethylxanthine [IBMX, a phosphodiesterase (PDE) inhibitor], and cantharidin [Cant,a myosin light-chain phosphatase (MLCP) inhibitor]. Moreover, nitric oxide (NO), cGMP, andPKG levels in SV tissues were determined by ELISA after incubation with glabridin, N(o)-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-Name, a NO synthetase inhibitor), phenylephrine (PE), ODQ, IBMX,and KT5823. The results showed that glabridin relaxed the vascular smooth muscle of humanSV pretreated with PE in a dose-dependent manner, which was independent of the *** vasorelaxant effect of glabridin was only inhibited by iberiotoxin (IbTX), Cant, and *** increased cGMP and PKG levels in SV homogenates, whereas it did not alter the NOlevel. The enhancing efects of cGMP and PKG levels by glabridin were abolished by ODQ andKT5823. In conclusion, glabridin has a vasorelaxant effect, which is associated with the activationof BKc. channels and inhibition of PDE.

An artificial neural network approach for prediction of long-term strength properties of steel fiber reinforced concrete containing fly ash

In this study, an artificial neural network (ANN) model for studying the strength properties of steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC) containing fly ash was devised. The mixtures were prepared with 0 wt%, 15 wt%, and 30 wt% of fly ash, at 0 vol.%, 0.5 vol.%, 1.0 vol.% and 1.5 vol.% of fiber, respectively. After being cured under the standard conditions for 7, 28, 90 and 365 d, the specimens of each mixture were tested to determine the corresponding compressive and flexural strengths. The pa- rameters such as the amounts of cement, fly ash replacement, sand, gravel, steel fiber, and the age of samples were selected as input variables, while the compressive and flexural strengths of the concrete were chosen as the output variables. The back propagation learning algorithm with three different variants, namely the Levenberg-Marquardt (LM), scaled conjugate gradient (SCG) and Fletcher-Powell conjugate gradient (CGF) algorithms were used in the network so that the best approach can be found. The results obtained from the model and the experiments were compared, and it was found that the suitable algorithm is the LM algorithm. Furthermore, the analysis of variance (ANOVA) method was used to determine how importantly the experimental parameters affect the strength of these mixtures.

COPOLYMERS OF 2-ACRYLAMIDO-2-METHYL-1-PROPANESULFONIC ACID/MALEIC ACID:SYNTHESIS,CHARACTERIZATION AND ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITY

2-Acrylamido-2-methyl-1-propanesulfonic acid （AMPS）, and maleic acid （MA） copolymerized with different feed ratios using N,N-dimethylformamide as a solvent and benzoyl peroxide （Bz2O2） as an initiator at 70℃. Structure and composition of copolymers for a wide range of monomer feed were determined by elemental analysis （content of N for AMPS-units）. Monomer reactivity ratios for AMPS （M1）-MA （M2） pair were determined by the application of conventional linearization methods such as Fineman-Ross （F-R）, Kelen-Tudos（KT） and Extended Kelen-Tudos （EKT） and a nonlinear error invariable model method using a computer program RREVM. The characterizations were done by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy （FTIR）, differential scanning calorimetry （DSC） thermal gravimetry analysis （TGA）, and and X-ray diffraction. The antimicrobial effects of polymers were also tested on various bacteria, and yeast.

Causal Inference in Graph-Text Constellations:Designing Verbally Annotated Graphs

Multimodal documents combining language and graphs are wide-spread in print media as well as in electronic media. One of the most important tasks to be solved in comprehending graph-text combinations is construction of causal chains among the meaning entities provided by modalities. In this study we focus on the role of annotation position and shape of graph lines in simple line graphs on causal attributions concerning the event presented by the annotation and the processes （i.e, increases and decreases） and states （no-changes） in the domain value of the graphs presented by the process-lines and state-lines. Based on the experimental investigation of readers＇ inferences under different conditions, guidelines for the design of multimodal documents including text and statistical information graphics are suggested. One suggestion is that the position and the number of verbal annotations should be selected appropriately, another is that the graph line smoothing should be done cautiously.

Fitting Single Particle Energies in sdgh Major Shell

We have performed two kinds of non-linear fitting procedures to the single-particle energies in the sdgh major shell to obtain better shell model results. The low-lying energy eigenvaiues of the light Sn isotopes with A = 103 - 110 in the sdgh-shell are calculated in the framework of the nuclear shell model by using CD-Bonn two-body effective nucleon- nucleon interaction. The obtained energy eigenvalues are fitted to the corresponding experimental values by using two different non-linear fitting procedures, i.e., downhill simplex method and clonai selection method. The unknown single-particle energies of the states 2s1/2, ld3/2, and Oh11/2 are used in the fitting methods to obtain better spectra of the 104,106,108,110Sn isotopes, We compare the energy spectra of the 104,106,108,110Sn and 103,105,107,109Sn isotopes with/without a nonlinear fit to the experimental results.
