Effect of Molasses Addition at Ensiling on Ruminal In Situ Dry Matter and Nutrient degradation of Whole-plant Soybean Silage Harvested at Different phenological Stages

Whole-plant soybean ensiling has limitations and challenges that affect silage fermentation patterns and reduce ruminal nutrient degradation. perhaps either the addition of molasses at ensiling or harvesting at different phenological stages has the potential to enhance whole-plant soybean silage (WSS) ruminal degradation. This experiment was a completely randomized design with a 3 × 2 factorial arrangement of treatments evaluating the effects of molasses (0 and 40 g/kg fresh forage) and phenological stage (R5: beginning seed, R6: full seed, and R7: beginning maturity) on ruminal in situ degradation. Molasses increased effective ruminal degradability (ERD) of dry matter (DM) regardless of the phenological stage and increased ERD of crude protein at R5 and R6. The addition of molasses at later phenological stages increased ERD of neutral detergent fiber (NDF). There was a molasses × phenological stage interaction effect with greater fractions A and B of NDF at R7 and R5, respectively, but lower undegraded NDF at R5 and R6 with molasses addition. Although the benefits of adding molasses were more pronounced in R5 and R6, adding molasses to whole-plant soybean at ensiling is recommended regardless of phenological stage. Increasing the proportion of digestible nutrients at harvesting either by harvesting at later phenological stages or the addition of molasses is a powerful strategy to manage ruminal degradation of DM and nutrients in WSS.

Renin-Angiotensin System (RAS) is involved with hypertension and other cardiovascular diseases. However, the association of RAS components to cancer still causes suspicion. To try to clarify this, here we aimed to show this association for three important components: Angiotensin Converting Enzyme 1 (ACE1), Angiotensin Type 1 Receptor (AGTR1) and Angiotensin Type 2 Receptor (AGTR2). The first articles show that association of RAS components with cancer dates back to the 70’s. ECA1 and AGTR1 have close association with cancer and ACE1 inhibitors or AGTR1 blockers are candidates to treatment of some tumors. Moreover, the action of AGTR2 is still controversial, but most studies show that the increased expression of AGTR2 can attack the cancer cells. In breast cancer, these components have also been widely studied and many works have shown that the correlation exists. Therefore specific target using these RAS components could be a beneficial, novel therapy to various tumors.

Coffee is recognized by its bioactive potential,mainly antioxidant and antimicrobial *** aim of this study was to evaluate the antimicrobioal potential of aqueous extracts of Coffea arabica(AR)(roasted)and Coffea canephora[roasted(CR)and green(CG)]against patogens Salmonella Typhimurium and Escherichia coli,and probiotics Lactobacillus plantarum and Lactobacillus ***,the strain's sensitivity were tested by disk diffusion method,followed by the evaluation of growth kinetics(lag phase duration,maximum specific growth rate and logarithmic increase in the population)in culture media and in a food matrix(milk)by the adjustment of Gompertz predictive *** the step of strain sensivity tests,*** and *** were sensitive against all coffee extracts from 0.5%to 5.0%,while the Lactobacilli growth were not *** the growth kinetic tests in culture media,roasted coffees extracts reduced logarithmic increase in the population and maximum specific growth rate and improved lag phase for ***;for *** the growth was completely inhibited with 2.5%CR and 5.0%*** correlations between growth parameters with coffee bioactive contents suggested that melanoidins had the main antimicrobial *** the step of food matrix application(growth kinetics in milk),the addition of 5.0%CR reduced *** and *** multiplication,while the probiotics *** and *** where not inhibetd,suggesting a selective effect of coffee extracts as an antimicrobial agent,which may be of great interest for the food industry,especially for probiotic foods application.

Experimental Acoustic determination of the Void Fraction in Two-phase Flow in Horizontal pipelines

In multi-phase flows, the phases can flow and arranged in different spatial configurations in the pipe, which called flow patterns. This type of flow is found in the oil, chemical and nuclear industries. For example, in the production and transport of oil and gas, the identification of the flow patterns are essential for answering those questions which are related to the economic return of the field, such as, measuring the volumetric flow, determining the pressure drop along the flow lines, production management and supervision. In offshore production, these factors are very important. This paper presents a new method for measuring the void fraction in horizontal pipelines, taking the air as gas in water-air two-phase flow. Through acoustic analysis of the frequency response of the pipe, the method gets the parameters to changes in runoff regime, in an experimental arrangement constructed on a small scale. The main advantages are the non-intrusive characteristic and easy to implement. The paper is composed of a qualitative experimental evaluation and transducers （microphone） which are used to analyze variations in the response accompanying variations in void and flow pattern changes. Changes are imposed and controlled by a two-phase flow experimental simulation rig, including a measurement cell constituted of an external casing that can isolate the measurement from the environmental background noise fitted with acoustic pressure transducers radially arranged, and the impact of a monitored excitation mechanism. The signals which captured by the microphones are processed and analyzed by checking their frequency contents changes according to the amount of air in the mixture.

Background:Hepatitis E virus(HEV)is a member of the Hepeviridae family;it has four main genotypes and one *** genotypes 1 and 2 cause ep.demic hepatitis and are transmitted via water and the fecal-oral route,genotypes 3 and 4 are zoonotic In the various seroprevalence studies of hepatitis E in Brazil,the numbers reported vary widely and are difficult to *** aim of this study was to analyze existing seroprevalence studies of hepatitis E in adults in *** text:We searched the pubMed,Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences and Embase databases for studies published from inception to May 12,2018 concerning infection by HEV in Brazil without time period or language *** included studies that presented data concerning hepatitis E seroprevalence in adults in Brazil,had a sample size>50 patients and whose method used for the detection of anti-HEV was standardized and *** also evaluated the quality of the articles using a list of criteria that totalized 9 *** the 20 studies ultimately analyzed,10(50%)were from the southeast region of Brazil,3(15%)were from the central-west region,3(15%)were from the northern region,2(10%)were from the northeast region and 2(10%)were from the southern *** the quality evaluation of the studies,the mean score was 5.6(range:4-8).The estimated overall seroprevalence of HEV infection in the adult population was 6.0%(95%CI:5.0-7.0);in subgroup analyses,we observed that the prevalence of anti-HEV antibodies in blood donors was 7.0%(95%CI:5.0-8.0),whereas in the general population,it was 3.0%(95%CI:2.0-4.0).Conclusions:The results of this systematic review indicate that there should be national investment in the prevention of hepatitis E virus infection in Brazil,including the implementation of improvements in basic sanitation and guidance regarding the appropriate handling of animal waste and the optimal cooking of vegetables,meat and their derivatives.

Assessing Cleaner Energy Alternatives for Bus Transit in Rio de Janeiro:A Life Cycle Inventory Analysis

From 2003 to 2009 in Brazilian municipalities of over 60,000 inhabitants, buses accounted for more than 25% of urban trips. This trend is not expected to change in the medium term. Worldwide, buses rely on petroleum diesel as fuel. In Brazil, alternative fuels such as biodiesel, natural gas and ethanol are available and the choice among them should depend on the assessment of the entire life cycle of such fuels. This paper uses a Life Cycle Inventory, which is essential to the implementation of a Life Cycle Assessment, to assess six energy alternatives: petroleum diesel, biodiesel, petroleum diesel with 5% of biodiesel, compressed natural gas, additivated hydrous ethanol and dual-fuel system composed by petroleum diesel with 5% of biodiesel and compressed natural gas. In saving total energy consumption, pure petroleum diesel or mixed with 5% biodiesel and dual-fuel systems stand out, in that order. If renewable energy use and net carbon dioxide emissions reduction are the goals, ethanol and biodiesel should be given preference. The addition of 5% of biodiesel in petroleum diesel increases the share of renewable energy in the supply chain of petroleum diesel by 47.5% with an increase of 0.58% in total energy consumption and a reduction of 3.8% in net CO2 emissions during the life cycle. In the case of biodiesel, the addition of 5% of biodiesel in petroleum diesel increases the share of renewable energy in the supply chain by 51.15% with an increase of 0.03% in the total energy consumption and a decrease of 7% in net CO2 emissions in the life cycle. The use of 5% of biodiesel in petroleum diesel does not significantly affect the use of renewable energy (+0.69%) or total energy consumption (+0.04%) in ethanol supply chain, which already shows a great use of renewable energy input. However, a decrease of 9.29% in the net CO2 emissions in the supply chain occurs, which reaches 5.28% in the life cycle.

Analysis of percolation of the Stabilized Suspensions of TiO2 and SiO2 Nanoparticles in Soil Columns Simulating Landfill Layers

It studied the behavior of transport and stability of TiO2 and SiO2 nanoparticles suspensions percolating through soil columns aiming at simulating municipal waste landfills covering soil layers performance. Experimental columns were constructed with landfill soils and water suspensions with nanoparticles percolation runs were carried out. The experimental columns were constructed with 100 mm and 200 mm of diameter and height, respectively. Outlet concentrations were measured along the percolation time using ICp-OES and nanoparticles tracking analyzer. It was observed that SiO2 nanoparticles acts as a stabilizer of TiO2 nanoparticles suspensions and promotes its transport through the soil columns, which simulates the conditions of the controlled landfills layers. The interaction of the suspensions of SiO2 nanoparticles with nanoparticles of TiO2, promote a high stability of the emulsions, which confers the high zeta potential present in SiO2 suspensions, promoting greater mobility and transport through the soil columns. The experimental results demonstrated that TiO2 nanoparticles were kept suspended, even after 10 days, which indicates good stability. It was observed that both TiO2 and SiO2 were kept in suspensions with negligible nanoparticles clustering and decantation. It was confirmed that the TiO2 and SiO2 of the outflow of soil columns are strongly affected by the soil pH, organic carbon and clay content of the soils. It was observed that the soil columns behave as a retention barrier for both TiO2 and SiO2 nanoparticles.

AIM To report the results of the International Nosocomial Infection Control Consortium(INICC) study conducted in Quito, *** A device-associated healthcare-acquired infection(DAHAI) prospective surveillance study conducted from October 2013 to January 2015 in 2 adult intensive care units(ICUs) from 2 hospitals using the United States Centers for Disease Control/National Healthcare Safety Network(CDC/NHSN) definitions and INICC methods. RESULTS We followed 776 ICU patients for 4818 bed-days. The central line-associated bloodstream infection(CLABSI) rate was 6.5 per 1000 central line(CL)-days, the ventilator-associated pneumonia(VAp) rate was 44.3 per 1000 mechanical ventilator(MV)-days, and the catheterassociated urinary tract infection(CAUTI) rate was 5.7 per 1000 urinary catheter(UC)-days. CLABSI and CAUTI rates in our ICUs were similar to INICC rates [4.9(CLABSI) and 5.3(CAUTI)] and higher than NHSN rates [0.8(CLABSI) and 1.3(CAUTI)]- although device use ratios for CL and UC were higher than INICC and CDC/NSHN's ratios. By contrast, despite the VAp rate was higher than INICC(16.5) and NHSN's rates(1.1), MV DUR was lower in our ICUs. Resistance of A. baumannii to imipenem and meropenem was 75.0%, and of pseudomonas aeruginosa to ciprofloxacin and piperacillin-tazobactam was higher than 72.7%, all them higher than CDC/NHSN rates. Excess length of stay was 7.4 d for patients with CLABSI, 4.8 for patients with VAp and 9.2 for patients CAUTI. Excess crude mortality in ICUs was 30.9% for CLABSI, 14.5% for VAp and 17.6% for CAUTI. CONCLUSION DA-HAI rates in our ICUs from Ecuador are higher than United States CDC/NSHN rates and similar to INICC international rates.
