Objective:To evaluate the potential toxic effects of mine tailings exposure among the fisher folks residing near and far from the Calancan Bay,Marinduque,using the micronucleus assay as an ***:The fisher folks residing near and far from the Calancan Bay were interviewed and the presence and frequency of cells with micronucleus in exfoliated buccal epithelial cells were ***:Results showed that the prevalence of cells with micronucleus was higher among the fisher folks who were directly exposed to the mine tailings as compared with those fisher folks who reside in a community without exposure of mine tailings and history of mining(P<0.05).Conclusions:The presence and the significant difference in the cells with micronuclei observed near the Calancan Bay could possibly indicate a prolonged chemical stress caused by the toxic heavy metals in the mine tailings and the environment.

Ethylene regulates many aspects of plant growth and *** is perceived by a family of ethylene receptors(ETRs)that have been well ***,a full understanding of ETR function is complicated by functional redundancy between the receptor ***,we characterize a new ETR,SlETR7,that was revealed by tomato genome ***7 expression in tomato fruit pericarp increases when the fruit ripens and its expression is synchronized with the expression of SlETR1,SlETR2,and SlETR5 which occurs later in the ripening phase than the increase observed for SlETR3,SlETR4,and *** uncovered an error in the SlETR7 sequence as documented in the ITAG 3 versions of the tomato genome which has now been corrected in ITAG 4,and we showed that it belongs to sub-family *** also showed that SlETR7 specifically binds ***(OE)of SlETR7 resulted in earlier flowering,shorter plants,and smaller fruit than wild ***-out(KO)mutants of SlETR7 produced more ethylene at breaker(Br)and Br+2 days stages compared to wild type(WT),but there were no other obvious changes in the plant and fruit in these mutant *** observed that expression of the other SlETRs is upregulated in fruit of SlETR7 KO mutants,which may explain the absence of obvious ripening ***,these results show that SlETR7 is a functional ethylene *** work is needed to better understand its specific roles related to the six other tomato ETRs.

The RAS gene family,responsible for signal transduction within the mitogen activated protein kinase(MAPK)and phosphatidylinositol 3 kinase(PI3K)pathways,is frequently involved in carcinogenesis,and alterations in its member genes can be detected,with variable frequency,in a wide variety of solid and hematological *** alterations may behave as prognostic-predictive biomarkers and driver mutations,making them an interesting therapeutic *** their discovery,many strategies have been pursued to act on their signaling ***,in clinical practice,KRAS,the most prominent member of the RAS gene family,represents an especially elusive target in most malignancies;pathway inhibition is carried out upstream,on the EGFR receptor,or downstream,most frequently on the BRAF/MEK/ERK ***,clinically relevant direct RAS inhibition has been successfully achieved with the development of potent and selective covalent inhibitors of KRAS c.34G>T(p.G12C).These latest-generation drugs represent both a new and interesting tool in the therapeutic armamentarium and a symbolic end to the myth of KRAS ***,their clinical relevance and appropriate place in treatment strategies remain to be determined.

Objective:To study anemia in AIDS patients and its relation with socioeconomic, employment status and educational ***:A total number of 442 patients who visited the Infectious Diseases University Hospital in Buenos Aires, Argentina were included in the study. Patients were dividied into two groups,*** with anemia and the other without anemia. Anemia epidemiology and its relationship with educational level, housing, job situation, monthly income, total daily caloric intake and weekly intake of meat were ***:Anemia was found in 228 patients(54%). Comparing patients with or without anemia, a statistically significant difference was found(P<0.0001) in those whose highest educational level reached was primary school, who lived in a precarious home, who had no stable job or were unable to work, whose income was less than 30 dollars per month, whose meat consumption was less than twice a week or received less than 8000 calories per ***:The high prevalence of anemia found in poor patients with AIDS suggests that poverty increases the risk to suffer from this hematological *** relationship between economic development policies and AIDS is complex. Our results seem to point to the fact that AIDS epidemic may affect economic development and in turn be affected by it. If we consider that AIDS affects the economically active adult population, despite recent medical progress it usually brings about fatal consequences, especially within the poorest sectors of society where the disease reduces the average life expectancy, increases health care demand and tends to exacerbate poverty and iniquity.

Alzheimer’s disease(AD)is the most common form of *** the present time,however,AD still lacks effective *** recent studies showed that chronic treatment with anesthetic propofol attenuated brain caspase-3 activation and improved cognitive function in aged *** ofβ-amyloid protein(Aβ)is a major component of the neuropathogenesis of AD dementia and cognitive *** therefore set out to determine the effects of chronic treatment with propofol on Aβlevels in brain tissues of aged ***(50 mg/kg)was administrated to aged(18 month-old)wild-type mice once a week for 8 *** brain tissues of mice were harvested one day after the final propofol *** harvested brain tissues were then subjected to enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA)and Western blot *** we report that the propofol treatment reduced Aβ(Aβ40 and Aβ42)levels in the brain tissues of the aged ***,the propofol treatment decreased the levels ofβ-site amyloid precursor protein cleaving enzyme(the enzyme for Aβgeneration),and increased the levels of neprilysin(the enzyme for Aβdegradation)in the brain tissues of the aged *** results suggested that the chronic treatment with propofol might reduce brain Aβlevels potentially via decreasing brain levels ofβ-site amyloid precursor protein cleaving enzyme,thus decreasing Aβgeneration;and via increasing brain neprilysin levels,thus increasing Aβ*** preliminary findings from our pilot studies have established a system and postulated a new hypothesis for future research.
