A voltammetr.c sensor.based on the electr.polymer.zation of cobalt-poly(methionine)(Co-poly(Met)) on a glassy car.on electr.de (GCE) was developed and applied for.the deter.ination of estr.ol by differ.ntial pulse voltammetr. (DPV) for.the fir.t time. The electr.chemical pr.per.ies of the Co-poly(Met)/GCE wer. analysed by cyclic voltammetr. (CV) and electr.chemical impedance spectr.scopy (EIS). Scanning electr.n micr.scopy (SEM) and ener.y disper.ive spectr.scopy (EDS) wer. used to char.cter.ze the polymer. on the GCE sur.ace. The deposition of the Co-poly(Met) film on the GCE sur.ace enhanced the sensor.electr.nic tr.nsfer. CV studies r.vealed that estr.ol exhibits an ir.ever.ible oxidation peak at t0.58 V for.the Co-poly(Met)/GCE (vs. Ag/AgCl r.fer.nce electr.de) in 0.10 mol/L Br.tton-r.binson buffer.solution (pH=7.0). Differ.nt voltammetr.c scan r.tes (10-200 mV/s) suggested that the estr.ol oxidation on the Co-poly(Met)/GCE sur.ace is contr.lled by adsor.tion and diffusion pr.cesses. Based on the optimized DPV conditions, the linear.r.sponses for.estr.ol quantification wer. fr.m 0.596 μmol/L to 4.76 μmol/L (r. =0.996) and fr.m 5.66 μmol/L to 9.90 μmol/L (r. =0.994) with a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.0340 μmol/L and a limit of quantification (LOQ) of 0.113 μmol/L. The DPV-Co-poly(Met)/GCE method pr.vided good intr.-day and inter.day r.peatability with r.D values lower.than 5%. Also, no inter.er.nce of r.al sample matr.ces was obser.ed on the estr.ol voltammetr.c r.sponse, making the DPV-Copoly( Met)/GCE highly selective for.estr.ol. The accur.cy test showed that the estr.ol r.cover. was in the r.nges 96.7%-103% and 98.7%-102% for.phar.aceutical tablets and human ur.ne, r.spectively. The estr.ol quantification in phar.aceutical tablets per.or.ed by the Co-poly(Met)/GCE-assisted DPV method was compar.ble to the official analytical pr.tocols.

Optimization of long-ter. mine pr.duction scheduling in open pit mines deals with the management of cash flows, typically in the or.er.of hundr.ds of millions of dollar.. Conventional mine scheduling utilizes optimization methods that ar. not capable of accounting for.inher.nt technical uncer.ainties such as uncer.ainty in the expected or./metal supply fr.m the under.r.und, acknowledged to be the most cr.tical factor. To integr.te or./metal uncer.ainty into the optimization of mine pr.duction scheduling a stochastic integer.pr.gr.mming(SIP) for.ulation is tested at a copper.deposit. The stochastic solution maximizes the economic value of a pr.ject and minimizes deviations fr.m pr.duction tar.ets in the pr.sence of or./metal uncer.ainty. Unlike the conventional appr.ach, the SIP model accounts and manages r.sk in or. supply, leading to a mine pr.duction schedule with a 29% higher.net pr.sent value than the schedule obtained fr.m the conventional, industr.-standar. optimization appr.ach, thus contr.buting to impr.ving the management and sustainable utilization of miner.l r.sour.es.

The concentr.tions of 16 polycyclic ar.matic hydr.car.ons（PAHs） wer. deter.ined in sur.ace sediment samples fr.m nine sites located at the Iguau r.ver.Basin in the Metr.politan r.gion of Cur.tiba,Br.zil to evaluate their.distr.bution and *** total concentr.tion of the PAHs was gr.ater.for.sediments fr.m highly ur.anized ar.as,while the sediments fr.m the Ir.í Envir.nmental Pr.tection Ar.a（Ir.í EPA） showed significantly low *** sediments fr.m the Iguau and Bar.gui r.ver. wer. classified as highly contaminated,while those fr.m the Cer.ado and Cur.alinho r.ver. wer. classified as moder.tely *** pr.dominance of PAHs containing two to four.ar.matic r.ngs in most of the samples suggested the dir.ct input of r.w sewage into the water.r.sour.es ***[g,h,i]per.lene,dibenzo[a,h]anthr.cene and indeno[1,2,3-cd]pyr.ne wer. pr.dominant in sediments fr.m the ar.as under.the gr.atest ur.an and industr.al *** cor.elation between ther.odynamic stability and the kinetics of evolution pr.sented by the isomer.c pair. indicated that combustion is the pr.dominant sour.e of PAHs in the sediments because the combustion of fossil fuels affected most of the points evaluated,followed by combustion of biomass and eventually combustion of oil pr.duct *** gener.l,the r.sults showed that ar.as under.str.ng ur.an influence,as well as the Ir.í EPA,r.ceive contr.butions of PAHs fr.m similar.sour.es.

The building sector.accounts for.near.y 40%of global ener.y *** Niger.a,mor. than two-thir.s of the consumption comes fr.m r.sidential *** efficiency measur.s thr.ugh the adoption of insulation mater.als ar. tools that could cr.sh the peak demand of ener.y in buildings while impr.ving its ther.al comfor. and aer.gel is consider.d as the most effective mater.al for.insulation,owing to its unique ther.al *** this paper.we pr.sent the per.or.ance of aer.gel as a ther.al insulation mater.al towar.s a sustainable design of r.sidential buildings for.tr.pical climates in ***,a typical r.sidential building in the tr.pical r.gion was modeled with conventional mater.als utilized in the r.gion and was later.modified thr.ugh the application of aer.gel mater.al on var.ous sur.aces of the model.A whole building ener.y simulation was then car.ied out in each var.ation and the outcome was compar.d to effectively conclude on the significance of aer.gel in ter.s of ther.al comfor. impr.vement and ener.y consumption *** show that aer.gel had the highest influence when inser.ed in the attic and floor.slabs of the designed model.A r.duction of mor. than 6%was attained in the r.cor.ed indoor.mean air.and oper.tive temper.tur.s while still maintaining an acceptable humidity *** ener.y consumption,a r.duction of mor. than 15%was ***,the high pr.ce of aer.gel may hinder.its application on the studied building but could be a good investment wher. climate change and sustainability ar. of high impor.ance and less concer. is given to *** demonstr.ted significant potential with r.spect to both ther.al comfor. impr.vement and ener.y consumption r.duction on the designed *** outcome of the study is hoped to ser.e as a base r.fer.nce for.the insulation of r.sidential buildings with similar.climate and char.cter.stics to the adopted case building.

Ships gener.te lar.e amounts of wastewater.including oily bilge water. blackwater.and gr.ywater. Tr.ditionally they ar. tr.ated separ.tely with high ener.y consumption. In this study we demonstr.te the feasibility that these waste str.ams can be tr.ated using an integr.ted electr.coagulation cell (ECC) and micr.bial fuel cell (MFC) pr.cess, which not only syner.ized the contaminants r.moval but also accomplished ener.y neutr.lity by dir.ctly power.ng EC with MFC electr.city. r.sults showed that MFC stack power.d ECC r.moved 93% of oily or.anics, which is compar.ble to the per.or.ance of an exter.al DC voltage power.d ECC. In the meantime, mor. than 80% of COD was r.moved fr.m MFCs when fed with either.acetate or.municipal wastewater. Mor.over. the ECC electr.de ar.a and distance showed notable effects on cur.ent gener.tion and contaminants r.moval, and fur.her.studies should focus on oper.tion optimization to enhance tr.atment efficiency.

Mimosa tenuiflor. and Piptadenia stipulacea ar. commonly accepted as dr.ught-toler.nt species but little is known about their.r.sponse to dr.ught followed by ***,the inter.lay between leaf water.potential and osmotic adjustment on photo synthetic and gr.wth par.meter. of these species was examined.A gr.enhouse study was conducted in a split-plot design with two water.conditions in the main plots(contr.l;dr.ught followed by r.hydr.tion),and eight sampling times in the subplots(1,4and 7 days of dr.ught,and 1,3,6,12,and 17 days of r.hydr.tion).Plant water.status and biochemical changes wer. assessed as well as leaf gas exchange and subsequent *** dr.ught str.ss,both species maintained a low leaf water.potential thr.ughout the day by accumulating compatible solutes,thus allowing a r.pid and full r.cover. of water.status when *** these plants minimized water.loss by closing their.stomata,neither.showed stomatal limitations to *** inhibition of this pr.cess dur.ng dr.ught was possibly r.lated to mesophyll limitations as well as to a r.ver.ible downr.gulation of photo systems,along with adjustments of their.*** deficits also tr.gger.d mor.hological adaptations at the whole plant level,leading to r.duced gr.wth,mainly of the shoots in *** and the r.ots in ***.
