To achieve the triple challenge of food security,reversing biodiversity declines plus mitigating and adapting to climate change,there is a drive to embed ecological principles into agricultural,value-chain practices and *** diversifying cropping systems at several scales there is potential to decrease reliance on inputs,provide resilience to abiotic and biotic stress,enhance plant,microbe and animal biodiversity,and mitigate against climate *** this review we highlight the research performed in scotland over the past 5 years into the impact of the use of ecological principles in agriculture on sustainability,resilience and provision of ecosystem *** demonstrate that diversification of the system can enhance ecosystem *** and plant management interventions,including nature-based solutions,can also enhance soil quality and utilization of legacy ***,this is facilitated by greater reliance on soil biological processes and trophic *** highlight the example of intercropping with legumes to deliver sustainability through ecological principles and use legumes as an exemplar of the *** conclude that there are many effective interventions that can be made to deliver resilient,sustainable,and diverse agroecosystems for crop and food production,and these may be applicable in any agroecosystem.

生态集约化是指通过强化生态系统服务实现以补充或替代人为输入来维持或增加产量的目标。生态集约化具有提高农业环境可持续性的潜力,例如通过降低对环境不利的管理活动而又维持产量。生态集约化基于生态过程,而这些过程受到生物多样性的影响。本文综述了多空间尺度下生物多样性,特别是维管植物多样性如何调节与生态集约化相关的生态过程。在植物个体基因型水平上,功能性状的互补性直接影响生产力;在田块内种群水平上,作物混合类型具有抗灾能力,以减少病虫害的发生和传播的风险;尺度转换到田间水平,非作物植物类型(如杂草)的多样性为田块内的功能过程提供了必要的资源,包括地下(碳输入、分解)和地上(传粉媒介和天敌的资源连续性)。在景观尺度上,半自然和管理的植被嵌合体通过减轻洪涝和干旱风险、改善气候和调节虫害种群,为抵御极端事件提供缓冲。总体而言,上述强调了尺度异质性在农田维持生态系统功能的重要性。本综述的主要研究挑战包括:1)将植物功能多样性(从性状到栖息地尺度)更好地整合到种植系统设计中;2)量化植物多样性相对于其他管理选项对有效生态集约化的可能互动贡献,3)并通过有针对性的管理优化生物多样性的系统功能优势,以实现具有弹性、高效和高产的农业生态系统。

Crohn's disease genotypes of patients in remission vs relapses after infliximab discontinuation

AIM： To investigate genetic differences between Crohn＇s disease （CD） patients with a sustained remission vs relapsers after discontinuing infliximab while in cortico- steroid-free remission. METHODs： Forty-eight CD patients received infliximab and were in full corticosteroid-free clinical remission but then discontinued infliximab for reasons other than a loss of response, were identified by review of an electronic database and charts. Infliximab-associated remis- sion was defined as corticosteroid-free plus normaliza- tion of clinical disease activity [CD activity index （CDAI）〈 150] during follow-up visits based on physician global assessments. A CD relapse （loss of infliximab-induced remission） was clinically defined as a physician visit for symptoms of disease activity （CDAI 〉 220） and a thera- peutic intervention with CD medication（s）, or a hospital- ization with complications related to active CD. Genetic analyses were performed on samples from 14 patients （n = 6 who had a sustained long term remission after stopping infliximab, n -- 8 who rapidly relapsed after stopping infliximab）. Nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain 2 （NOD2）/caspase activation recruitment do- main 15 （CARD15） polymorphisms （R702W, G908R and L1007fs） and the inflammatory bowel disease 5 （IBDs） polymorphisms （IGR2060a1 and IGR3081a1） were ana- lyzed in each group. REsULTs： Five single nucleotide polymorphisms of IBD5 and NOD2/CARD15 genes were successfully analyzed for all 14 subjects. There was no signifcant increase in frequency of the NOD2/CARD15 polymor- phisms （R702W, G908R and L1007fs） and the IBD5 polymorphisms （IGR2060al and IGR3081a1） in either group of patients; those whose disease relapsed rap- idly or those who remained in sustained long term remission following the discontinuation of infliximab. Evaluation of a rehabilitation support service after acute stroke: Feasibility and patient/carer benefit

Background: stroke survivors returning home after discharge from hospital and their carers require support to meet their rehabilitation needs (independence in Activities of Daily Living, exercise, psychosocial support). Voluntary or charitable care providers may be able to address some of these needs. Objective: To explore the feasibility of delivering and evaluating enhanced support to stroke survivors and their carers, with a Rehabilitation support Worker (RsW). Methods: 16 consecutive stroke survivors and their carers were included. All participants received usual hospital care. seven of these patients and their carers were also allocated an RsW from a charitable care provider. The RsW accompanied therapy training sessions with the patient, carer and therapist in hospital. On discharge, the RsW visited the patient and carer at home over the initial 6 week post-discharge period to support them in practising rehabilitation skills. Patient function (Barthel Index) and patient/carer confidence were independently assessed at discharge (Week 0). The above assessments and patient/carer mood (GHQ-12) and Carer Giver strain were also assessed at Weeks 1, 6 and 12. RsWs were interviewed for their views about the service. Results: Participants’ functional ability at Week 1 post-discharge was significantly higher in the RsW group. At 6 and 12 weeks post-discharge, functional ability was not significantly different between groups. Carers in the intervention group were less confident at all time points, however, this was not significant. There was no significant effect on carer strain or well-being. Interviews with RsWs highlighted areas of their training that could be enhanced and the need for greater clarity as to their role. Conclusions: The results showed that a definitive trial of rehabilitation support is feasible.
