Effectiveness of Rice Husk and Sugarcane Bagasse Ashes Blended Cement in Improving Properties of Concrete

This paper emphasized the use of rice husk ash (RHA) and sugarcane bagasse ash (SBA) in improving concrete properties, and also their combined effects on workability, compressive strength, flexural strength, permeability and water absorption capacity. Thus, in this study, the water-to-cement ratio was kept constant (0.45), the binder materials content for conventional mix was kept constant at (350 kg/m3) and the partial replacement of cement with RHASBA used was 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25%, and 30% by weight of cement. The maximum compressive strength was noted at a 5% replacement level of cement with RHASBA. The Results showed that the optimum replacement of cement with RHASBA in concrete was 5%, which was found to increase the compressive strength by 15%, flexural strength by 3.4%, lowered permeability by 50%, lowered sorptivity by 11.34% as compared with control concrete at 90 days of curing time. The micro-structural test results further established that RHA and SBA have a high content of SiO2 which enables them to be more reactive in concrete and also revealed that the presence of RHASBA depletes Ca(OH)2 crystals, converting it into CaH2O4Si (C-S-H gel) leading to the strengthening of bond within the concrete matrix.

Objective: To determine which maternal characteristics or birth events independently predict severity of levator ani muscle (LA) tears at first vaginal birth in a longitudinal/observational investigation in a tertiary care hospital. Sample: Ninety primiparas with at least one at risk for LA tear inclusion factor at vaginal birth: maternal age ≥ 33 years, second stage ≥ 150 minutes, macrosomia, instrumented delivery, and/or anal sphincter laceration were studied. methods: magnetic Resonance Imaging (mRI) was obtained early postpartum (mean ± sd 48.9 ± 21.6 days) to identify LA tear. Severity of LA muscle fiber loss was graded on an ordinal scale of: “0” as no loss, “1” as modeling. Inclusion factors were explored as predictors of LA tear severity and at analysis episiotomy, time spent actively pushing, epidural, and oxytocin were also considered. The main outcome measures of interest included grading of severity of LA muscle fiber loss on an ordinal scale. Results: Respective counts/percentages of women within each 0 thru 3 ordered category of LA tear severity were: “0” = 58(64%), “1” = 9(10%), “2” = 15(17%), and “3” = 8(9%). Estimates and 95% CI for significant demographic or obstetric univariate predictors of LA tear severity level were age, OR 1.093 (CI 1.012 - 1.180), p = 0.023;and time spent in active pushing, OR 1.089 (CI 1.005 - 1.180), p = 0.038. The other factors considered were not significant. There were too few women with forceps deliveries to analyze. Conclusion: In our enriched sample of primiparous women, 26% showed a significant LA tear. maternal age and time spent actively pushing independently predict LA tear severity.

Associations between depressive symptoms, dysfunctional eating behaviors and attitudes, higher food intake and body mass index (BmI) have been previously observed. However, few studies have assessed these variables in the same study. The first objective is to compare, in a natural setting environment, the profile of women reporting lower or higher levels of depressive symptoms in terms of food intake, eating behaviors and attitudes, and BmI. The second objective is to test mediational models for which the link between depressive symptoms and food intake would be mediated by eating behaviors and attitudes or BmI. Weight-preoccupied women were recruited (n = 323), and their level of depressive symptoms was assessed using the Beck Depression Inventory. The median score was used to create two groups (lower ≤ 13;higher > 13). A web-based food-frequency questionnaire, the Three-Factor Eating Questionnaire, and the Intuitive Eating Scale were completed. BmI was calculated from reported body weight and height. Compared to women with a lower level of depressive symptoms, those with a higher level of depressive symptoms reported a higher energy intake (p = 0.02), and a higher consumption of savoury foods (p = 0.02). These women also had higher scores of disinhibition (p p = 0.0002), ate less intuitively (p p = 0.005). Association between depressive symptoms and energy intake was mediated by disinhibition, susceptibility to hunger and eating for physical rather than emotional reasons, while the role of BmI was less clear. Regarding another component of food intake, association between depressive symptoms and consumption of savoury foods was mediated by disinhibition and eating for physical rather than emotional reasons. In summary, it seems essential to be aware of the presence of depressive symptoms and to pay attention to eating behaviors and attitudes in interventions among weight-preoccupied women.

AIm To provide a comprehensive examination of the existing evidence of the antitumor effect of long-acting octreotide in neuroendocrine tumors(NETs).mETHODS A systematic literature review of clinical trials and observational studies was conducted in Pubm ed, EmBASE, and Cochrane through January 18, 2017. Conference abstracts for 2015 and 2016 from 5 scientific meetings were also *** Of 41 articles/abstracts identified, 13 unique studies compared octreotide with active or no treatment. Two of the 13 studies were clinical trials; the remaining were observational studies. The phase 3 Placebo-Controlled, Double-Blind, Prospective, Randomized Study of the Effect of Octreotide long-acting repeatable(LAR) in the Control of Tumor Growth in Patients with metastaticNeuroendocrine midgut Tumors clinical trial showed that long-acting octreotide significantly prolonged time to tumor progression compared with placebo in patients with functionally active and inactive metastatic midgut NETs; no statistically significant difference in overall survival(OS) was observed, possibly due to the crossover of placebo patients to octreotide. Retrospective observational studies found that long-acting octreotide use was associated with significantly longer OS than no octreotide use for patients with distant metastases although not for those with local/regional disease. CONCLUSION The clinical trial and observational studies with informative evidence support long-acting octreotide's antitumor effect on time to tumor progression and OS. This review showed the rarity of existing studies assessing octreotide's antitumor effect and recommends that future research is warranted.

Successful use of closed-loop allostatic neurotechnology for post-traumatic stress symptoms in military personnel： self-reported and autonomic improvements

This paper presents an overview of deformation mechanisms during the fatigue in the Nickel-based Superalloy CmSX-4. Details of creep processes in Nickel based superalloys have been studied in great detail but the dislocation configurations developed during fatigue and of these alloys have received comparatively little attention. Low cycle fatigue tests have been performed at 750℃ at stresses above and below the nominal yield stress and the microstructures examined at rupture and following early interruption of the test. Below the yield stress dislocation activity is largely restricted to the γ phase, whilst at higher stress the dislocations break through into the gamma prime as single dislocation loops. These can penetrate several precipitates, and when sectioned perpendicular to the tensile axis, show up as dislocation dipoles. In addition to these defects, there is also a range of defects formed by partial dislocations trailing stacking faults similar to those observed during creep, (Superlattice Stacking Fault shear or SSF). At higher temperatures deformation is entirely by perfect dislocations in the gamma and also in the gamma prime above the yield stress.
