The contamination of the environment by organic pollutants is a major risk factor,particularly for developing *** organic pollutants(SOPs)like the phenolic compounds,polyaromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs),pesticides,and herbicides pose serious environmental and health issues owing to their toxic characteristics and poor *** from their potential mutagenicity,carcinogenicity,tetragenicity and high body accumulation,these pollutants have become an increase concern *** is a promising alternative strategy for removing organic pollutants during water purification *** have several advantages such as simplicity of operation,good sorption capacity,high recoverability and *** a result,the focus and novelty of this review is on recent trends in the use of biosorbents,with a particular emphasis on the removal of SOPs from *** also cover use of bacteria biosorbents,fungal,algae and chitosan/chitin *** from that,we have also reviewed various classes of SOPs,their levels in the environment,classification and available characteristics techniques suitable for the adsorption experiments of these nanocomposites *** addition,we have provided comprehensive explanations and conclusions on possible future application of biosorbents and the mechanism of adsorption of these materials for removal of these SOPs from wastewater during water purification processes.

目的探讨Nesprin-1在肌细胞分化过程中的作用。方法将C2C12肌原细胞分化成肌小管,采用Western blot和免疫荧光技术检测Nesprin-1蛋白表达水平和亚细胞定位在肌小管分化成熟过程中的改变;同时利用RNA干扰技术抑制Nesprin-1蛋白的表达,观察其对C2C12肌原细胞分化的影响。结果 Nesprin-1各亚型在C2C12肌原细胞系分化过程中表达水平以及在细胞中的定位有明显改变。Nesprin-1 siRNA组与对照组相比,分化前后C2C12细胞中Nesprin-1蛋白表达明显降低,同时分化后肌组织分化成熟的蛋白标志肌球蛋白(myosin)的表达量以及肌小节的数量比对照组均明显减少(P<0.001)。结论本文证实Nesprin-1了对骨胳肌细胞分化至关重要,不同分子大小Nesprin-1亚型在C2C12肌原细胞分化过程中发挥各自的特殊作用,在该细胞质与细胞核中的也有不同的作用。

Elevated fibroblast growth factor 23(FGF23)in X-linked hypophosphatemia(XLH)results in rickets and phosphate wasting,manifesting by severe bone and dental ***,a FGF23-neutralizing antibody,an alternative to conventional treatment(phosphorus and active vitamin D analogs),showed significant improvement in the long bone ***,we examined whether FGF23 antibody(FGF23-mAb)also improved the dentoalveolar features associated with ***-week-old male Hyp mice were injected weekly with 4 or 16 mg·kg−1 of FGF23-mAb for 2 months and compared to wild-type(WT)and vehicle(PBS)treated Hyp mice(n=3–7 mice).micro-CT analyses showed that both doses of FGF23-mAb restored dentin/cementum volume and corrected the enlarged pulp volume in Hyp mice,the higher concentration resulting in a rescue similar to WT ***23-mAb treatment also improved alveolar bone volume fraction and mineral density compared to vehicle-treated *** revealed improved mineralization of the dentoalveolar tissues,with a decreased amount of osteoid,predentin and *** periodontal ligament attachment was also observed,evidenced by restoration of the acellular *** preclinical data were consistent with the retrospective analysis of two patients with XLH showing that burosumab treatment improved oral *** together,our data show that the dentoalveolar tissues are greatly improved by FGF23-mAb treatment,heralding its benefit in clinics for dental abnormalities.

Incidence of Parenteral Nutrition-Associated Liver Disease in Infants on Prolonged Parenteral Nutrition with a Soybean-Based Lipid Emulsion: A 7-Year Experience

Parenteral nutrition associated liver disease (PNALD) is a significant complication in infants receiving long-term parenteral nutrition (PN). Chronic administration of PN has been associated with its development. Our purpose is to characterize our incidence of PNALD over an extended period and identify risk factors for its development, including administration of soybean-based injectable lipid emulsions (ILEs) as we transit to novel ILEs in our practice. Infants receiving 30 days or more of PN were included. PNALD was defined as a direct bilirubin ≥ 2 mg/dL. Data collected included: patient demographics, clinical and enteral feeding characteristics. Macronutrient intake was recorded using these cut-offs: glucose infusion rate (GIR) of ≤14 mg/kg/min or above, protein doses of ≤3 g/kg/day or above and lipid doses of ≤2 g/kg/day or above. A total of 349 infants were included, with an annual incidence of PNALD ranging between 34% - mily:Verdana;">54%. Infants with PNALD were younger by gestation (27 vs. 29.5 weeks) and smaller by birthweight (900 vs. 1248 grams). Sepsis, GI disease including necrotizing enterocolitis and bowel resection were significantly associated with an increased risk for development of PNALD. PNALD infants received lower protein doses (3.0 vs 3.3 g/kg/day, p = 0.014) while receiving higher GIR (11.4 vs 10.7 mg/kg/min, p = 0.012) compared to non-PNALD infants. Low birth weight, sepsis and bowel resection remain strong indicators of risk for PNALD. No single macronutrient increased our infants’ risk for PNALD. The use of newer ILEs when available should be evaluated for their impact on PNALD development.

Background: Cervical Cancer is one such a disease that remains with high mortality unless prevented or detected early and managed. It is one of the most common cancers of the child bearing age between 20 and 45 years world over. It is rated as the second most prevalent cancer among women. There is high consensus among various scholars that high quality screening, effective treatment and routine follow-up care are cardinal in helping women. The main objective of the study was to identify the factors influencing cervical cancer screening in Kitwe District, Zambia. methods: An analytical cross-sectional study design was employed that included the use of a researcher-administered questionnaire. Simple random sampling was used to sample 210 participants. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 25 and chi-square test was used to determine associations among variables. Binary logistic regression was used for multivariate analysis. Statistical significance was set at p Results: The age of the women enrolled in the study ranged from 20 to 59 years, with a mean age of 30.4 years (SD: 8.36). majority (46.2%) of the women were aged between 25 to 34 years and the mean age reported for sexual debut among respondents was 19.7 (SD: 4.01) years ranging from 12 to 31 years at first sexual encounter. Almost all (99%) the women were Christians and 42.9% had attained secondary school education. Fifty nine (59%) of the respondents were married and 77.6% had children. Over three quarters (77.6%) of the respondents were knowledgeable on cervical cancer and screening, majority (61%) of the respondents demonstrated a more positive attitude towards cervical cancer screening, and the overall perception level among study respondents was more positive (71.9%). The findings of the present study indicated that the magnitude of cervical cancer screening was 44.8%. Combined Effects of Capsaicin and HA14-1 in Inducing Apoptosis in melanoma Cells

Abnormal regulation of apoptosis is an important aspect of tumour development. Capsaicin, an extract of red chilli peppers, has been shown to inhibit growth of melanoma and other malignant cell lines and HA14-1 is an organic compound that directly induces apoptosis by binding to Bcl-2 protein. The aim of this work was to investigate whether combination therapy with capsaicin and HA14-1 might hold any promise for the treatment of melanoma. Three melanoma cell lines of a range of aggressive potential, melanocytes and fibroblasts were examined, looking at the effects of both drugs singly and in combination on cell viability and induction of apoptosis. This comparative study showed that melanoma cells and melanocytes have a similar sensitivity to capsaicin while fibroblasts are more resistant to it. HA14-1, as expected, induced apoptosis in all cells at relatively low concentrations. A combination of the two agents produced the expected results of an additive effect for 2 (HBL and A375Sm) out of 3 melanoma cell lines in inducing apoptosis, but encouragingly for the most metastatically aggressive cancer cell line (C8161), a combination of the two showed a synergistic induction of apoptosis.

Zebrafish as an in Vivo Screen for Early Black Cranberry Proanthocyanidin Biomolecular Activity

Antioxidants have been widely studied in various naturally occurring substances as a bioavailable cancer prevention treatment. Proanthocyanidins (PACs), which are abundant polyphenols in Early Black (EB) Cranberry (Vaccinium macrocarpon), are readily available and we have shown their anticancer activity in several cancer cell lines. This work focused on the activity of these compounds when incorporated into the zebrafish (Danio rerio) system. We began investigating the in vivo effect of these phytochemicals, the protective role of several other cranberry compounds, and the metabolic activity of the vertebrate model organism. Proanthocyanidin fractions were separated from fresh EB Cranberry fruit by chromatography on Sephadex LH-20 in order to acquire a workable stock solution in DmSO. Various concentrations of proanthocyanidins in solution were tested against fish ranging in age from 1-cell stage to adult level of growth. Acridine orange apoptosis indicator dye was incorporated into the treatment protocol, and it was observed that irregular epithelial cell death was occurring in treated embryos but not in the control group. Further apoptosis assays were carried out utilizing Dihydroethidium (DHE) superoxide sensitive dye in the treatment protocol. Fluorescing red nuclei were visible along the outer surface of the epithelium cell layer;an indication of superoxide release within cells leading to the nicking of DNA within the nucleus. It was also possible to screen for superoxide release in PACs treated CCD-CO18 and HT-29 cells using confocal microscopy and cell apoptosis was investigated by trypan blue cytotoxicity assay;cell apoptosis results were statistically significant as confirmed by ANOVA analysis. Results indicate that the phytochemicals may induce apoptosis in rapidly dividing cells.

Weak mismatch epitaxy and structural feedback in graphene growth on copper foil

Graphene growth by low-pressure chemical vapor deposition on low cost copper foils shows great promise for large scale applications. It is known that the local crystallography of the foil influences the graphene growth rate. Here we find an epitaxial relationship between graphene and copper foil. Interfacial restructuring between graphene and copper drives the formation of （nl0） facets on what is otherwise a mostly Cu（100） surface, and the facets in turn influence the graphene orientations from the onset of growth. Angle resolved photoemission shows that the electronic structure of the graphene is decoupled from the copper indicating a weak interaction between them. Despite this, two preferred orientations of graphene are found, ±8° from the Cu[010] direction, creating a non-uniform distribution of graphene grain boundary misorientation angles. Comparison with the model system of graphene growth on single crystal Cu（110） indicates that this orientational alignment is due to mismatch epitaxy. Despite the differences in symmetry the orientation of the graphene is defined by that of the copper. We expect these observations to not only have importance for controlling and understanding the growth process for graphene on copper, but also to have wider implications for the growth of two-dimensional materials on low cost metal substrates.
