Rheological and stability analysis of cement pastes incorporating silica-based wastes

This study investigates the influence of waste characteristics,especially zeta potential,on the properties of cement pastes and *** focus is to evaluate the impact of the zeta potential of cement particles and waste materials on the sedimentation speed,rheology,and hardening time of stabilized cement *** Cement II f 40,retarder additive,silica,and fly ash were used in the *** pastes were prepared,and during the stabilization period,their rheological properties and pH were *** zeta potential and sedimentation speed of the cement and waste particles were measured at the pH that the pastes presented during the entire stabilization *** the stabilization period,the pastes were subjected to the hardening time *** zeta potential analyses revealed diverse values for the different powder types,with the cement particles exhibiting a zeta potential of−3.0 mV,the silica particles exhibiting−10.5 mV,and the fly ash particles exhibiting−20.3 *** influence of the high zeta potential modulus was observed on the sedimentation speed,with the solution containing fly ash exhibiting a speed of 40.01μm/s,whereas the solution containing only cement exhibited a speed of 99.38μm/*** the pastes,the results indicate that the presence of fly ash particles with a significantly negative zeta potential led to a 16%reduction in hardening time compared to particles with a lower modulus of zeta *** tests showed that the inclusion of fly ash particles prevented the formation of *** the zeta potential influenced agglomerate formation and hardening time,it was found to have no effect on yield stress or viscosity.

Hepatic encephalopathy(HE)is a cognitive disturbance characterized by neuropsychiatric *** occurs in acute and chronic hepatic disease and also in patients with portosystemic *** presence of these portosystemic shunts allows the passage of nitrogenous substances from the intestines through systemic veins without liver ***,the embolization of these shunts has been performed tocontrol HE manifestations,but the presence of portal vein thrombosis is considered a *** this presentation we show a cirrhotic patient with severe HE and portal vein thrombosis who was submitted to embolization of a large portosystemic *** report:a 57 years-old cirrhotic patient who had been hospitalized many times for persistent HE and hepatic coma,even without precipitant *** had a wide portosystemic shunt and also portal vein *** abdominal angiography confirmed the splenorenal shunt and showed other *** larger shunt was embolized through placement of microcoils,and the patient had no recurrence of overt *** was a little increase of esophageal and gastric varices,but no endoscopic treatment was *** portosystemic shunts are frequent causes of recurrent HE in cirrhotic patients,portal vein thrombosis should be considered a relative contraindication to perform a shunt ***,in particular cases with many shunts and severe HE,we found that one of these shunts can be safely embolized and this procedure can be sufficient to obtain a good HE *** conclusion,we reported a case of persistent HE due to a wide portosystemic shunt associated with portal vein *** the patient had other shunts,she was successfully treated by embolization of the larger shunt.

Mountains are paramount for exploring biodiversity patterns due to the mosaic of topographies and climates encompassed over short *** research has traditionally focused on taxonomic diversity when investigating changes along elevational gradients,but other facets should be *** first time,we simultaneously assessed elevational trends in taxonomic,functional,and phylogenetic diversity of woody plants in Andean tropical montane forests and explored their underlying ecological and evolutionary *** investigation covered four transects(traversing ca.2200 m a.s.l.) encompassing 114 plots of 0.1 ha across a broad latitudinal range(ca.10°).Using Hill numbers to quantify abundance-based diversity among 37,869 individuals we observed a consistent decrease in taxonomic,functional,and phylogenetic diversity as elevation increased,although the decrease was less pronounced for higher Hill *** exception was a slight increase in phylogenetic diversity when dominant species were *** decrease in taxonomic and functional diversity might be attributed to an environmental filtering process towards highlands,where the increasingly harsher conditions exclude species and functional ***,the differences in steepness decrease between Hill orders suggest that rare species disproportionately contribute to functional *** phylogenetic diversity the shifting elevational trend between Hill orders indicates a greater than previously considered influence in central Andean highlands of tropical lowlands originated species with strong niche conservatism relative to distantly related temperate *** could be explained by a decreasing presence and abundance of temperate,extratropical taxa towards the central Andes relative to northern or southern Andes,where they are more prevalent.

Muscle strength and its association with cardiometabolic variables in adolescents:does the expression of muscle strength values matter?

Background We investigate the association between different muscle strength(MS)indices with cardiometabolic variables in *** Cross-sectional study comprising 351 adolescents(male 44.4%,age 16.6±1.0 years)from *** was assessed by handgrip strength and analyzed in live difrerent ways:absolute MS and MS normalized for body weight,body mass index(BMI),height,and fat mass,*** variables investigated as outcomes were systolic and diastolic blood pressure(DBP),waist circumference(WC),high-sensitive C-reactive protein(hs-CRP),lipid and glucose metabolism *** linear regression models adjusted for confounding factors were *** Absolute MS and/or MS normalized for height was directly associated with WC[up to 32.8 *** error(SE)=4.7]and DBP(up to 8.8 mmHg,SE=0.8),and inversely associated with high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(up to-8.0 mg/***=14.1).MS normalized for body *** or fat inass was inversely associated with WC(up to-17.5 cm,SE=2.2).According tesex,MS normalized for fat mass was inversely associated with triglycerides(male:0.02 times lower,SE=0.01;female:0.05 times lower,SE=0.01)and homeostatic model assessment for insulin resistance(male:0.02 times lower,SE=0.01;female:0.06 times ***=0.01).and inversely associated with hs-CRP only among male(0.03 times lower,SE=0.01).Conclusion When normalized for body weight,BMI or fat mass,MS was superior to absolute MS or MS normalized for height in representing adequately cardiometabolic variables among adolescents.

Antifungal activity and antidiarrheal activity via antimotility mechanisms of (-)-fenchone in experimental models

BACKGROUND(-)-fenchone is a bicyclic monoterpene present in essential oils of plant species,such as foeniculum vulgare and Peumus boldus,used to treatment of gastrointestinal *** studies report its anti-inflammatory,antioxidant,and antinociceptive *** To investigate antidiarrheal activity related to gastrointestinal motility,intestinal secretion and antimicrobial *** A castor oil-induced diarrhea model was used to evaluate antidiarrheal *** transit and gastric emptying protocols were used to assess a possible antimotility *** receptors,presynaptic α2-adrenergic and tissue adrenergic receptors,KATP channels,nitric oxide were investigated to uncover antimotility mechanisms of action and castor oil-induced enteropooling to elucidate antisecretory *** antimicrobial activity was evaluated in the minimum inhibitory concentration model,the fractional inhibitory concentration index using the(-)-fenchone association method with standard antifungal ***(-)-fenchone(75,150 and 300 mg/kg)showed antidiarrheal activity,with a significant decrease in the evacuation *** activity is possibly related to a percentage of reduced intestinal transit(75,150 and 300 mg/kg).The antimotility effect of(-)-fenchone decreased in the presence of pilocarpine,yohimbine,propranolol,L-NG-nitroarginine methyl ester or *** the enteropooling model,no reduction in intestinal fluid weight was observed.(-)-fenchone did not show antibacterial activity;on the other hand,inhibits the growth of strains of fungi with a minimum fungicide concentration of 32μg/***,when it was associated with amphotericin B,no synergism was *** The antidiarrheal effect of(-)-fenchone in this study involves antimotility effect and not involve antisecretory mechanisms.(-)-fenchone presents antifungal activity;however,it did not show antibacterial activity.

This review shows the importance of WO_(3)photoanode as a potentially low-cost,efficient,stable,and photoactive material for light-driven water *** such,this manuscript aims to review the most recent publications regarding the strategies to improve the phoelectroactivity of WO_(3)films for water *** addition,this review aims to graphically highlight and discuss the general trendings of the photocurrent density response and stability test of the recent outstanding studies in the literature for photoelectrochemical water splitting *** strategies covered in this review will not only concern the WO_(3)morphology and crystal plane growth,but also the many arrangements possibilities to improve the WO_(3)efficiency for water photoelectrooxidation,such as defect engineering based on oxygen vacancies,doping,decorations,and homo and *** these strategies are compared by the photocurrent density results and by the stability of these *** best results in this sense were observed in cases where the use of heterojunction was applied together with a desired morphology and crystal plane of the WO_(3)***,the modifications that caused a decrease in the photocurrent density reaching values that are even lower than the pure WO_(3)were also *** this way,this review intends to improve the knowledge about the synthesis and design of WO_(3)photoanodes to further obtain an efficient photocatalyst to minimize the recombination losses or losses across the interfaces and improve the photoelectroactivity for water splitting in the large-scale application.

Potts Model with q States on Directed Barab´asi-Albert Networks

On directed Barab´asi-Albert networks with two and seven neighbours selected by each added site,the Ising model with spin S=1/2 was seen not to show a spontaneous ***,the decay time for flipping of the magnetisation followed an Arrhenius law for Metropolis and Glauber algorithms,but for Wolff cluster flipping the magnetisation decayed exponentially with ***,on these networks the Ising model spin S=1 was seen to show a spontaneous *** this case,a first-order phase transition for values of connectivity z=2 and z=7 is well *** these same networks the Potts model with q=3 and 8 states is now studied through Monte Carlo *** also obtained for q=3 and 8 states a first-order phase transition for values of connectivity z=2 and z=7 for the directed Barab´asi-Albert *** results are different from the results obtained for the same model on two-dimensional lattices,where for q=3 the phase transition is of second order,while for q=8 the phase transition is of first-order.
