Ten years of a pediatric living donor liver transplantation program in Brazil

BACKGROUND Pediatric living-donor liver transplantation is considered a safe alternative for the treatment of children with end-stage liver *** tertiary centers and specialized medical staff are necessary to ensure compatible long-term survival rates and quality-of-life for these *** To report the results and the 10-year learning curve of a pediatric living-donor liver transplantation *** We conducted a retrospective cohort study of pediatric recipients from 2013 to ***-transplant outcomes and patient survival rates were compared between two 5-year periods of the *** A total of 25 and 48 patients underwent transplantation in the first(2013-2017)and second period(2018-2023),*** vein and hepatic artery thrombosis occurred in 11(15.1%)and seven(9.6%)patients,*** complications were observed in 39 of 73 patients(53.4%).A lower warm ischemia time was observed in the second period compared to the first(32.6±8.6 minutes vs 38.4±9.8 minutes,P=0.018,respectively).Patient survival rates at 1 and 5 years were 84%in the first period and 91.7%in the second period,with no significant difference(P=0.32).CONCLUSION The reported indications and outcomes align with the current *** findings provide crucial evidence regarding the feasibility of establishing a living donor program with consistent results over time.

Performance Assessment of Low-Temperature A-CAES(Adiabatic Compressed Air Energy Storage)Plants

The widespread diffusion of renewable energy sources calls for the development of high-capacity energy storage systems as the A-CAES(Adiabatic Compressed Air Energy Storage)*** this framework,low temperature(100℃–200℃)A-CAES(LT-ACAES)systems can assume a key role,avoiding some critical issues connected to the operation of high temperature *** this paper,two different LT-ACAES configurations are *** two configurations are characterized by the same turbomachines and compressed air storage section,while differ in the TES section and its integration with the *** particular,the first configuration includes two separated cycles:the working fluid(air)cycle and the heat transfer fluid(HTF)*** heat exchangers connect the two cycles allowing to recover thermal energy from the compressors and to heat the compressed air at the turbine *** different HTFs were considered:air(case A)and thermal oil(case B).The second configuration is composed of only one cycle,where the operating fluid and the HTF are the same(air)and the TES section is composed of three different packed-bed thermal storage tanks(case C).The tanks directly recover the heat from the compressors and heat the air at each turbine inlet,avoiding the use of heat *** LT-ACAES systems were modelled and simulated using the ASPEN-Plus and the MATLAB-Simulink *** main aim of this study was the detailed analysis of the reciprocal influence between the turbomachinery and the TES system;furthermore,the performance evaluation of each plant was carried out assuming both on-design and off-design operating ***,the different configurations were compared through the main performance parameters,such as the round-trip efficiency.A total power output of around 10 MW was set,leading to a TES tank volume ranging between 500 and 700 m^(3).The second configuration with three TES systems appears to be the most promising in terms of round-trip efficiency

The COVID-19 pandemic has escalated into one of the largest crises of the 21 st *** new SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus,responsible for COVID-19,has spread rapidly all around the *** Spanish Government was forced to declare a nationwide lockdown in view of the rapidly spreading virus and high mortality rate in the *** study investigated the impact of short-term lockdown during the period from March 15th to April 12th 2020 on the atmospheric levels of CO,SO_(2),PM_(10),O_(3),and NO_(2)over 11 representative Spanish *** possible influence of several meteorological factors(temperature,precipitation,wind,sunlight hours,minimum and maximum pressure)on the pollutants'levels were also *** results obtained show that the 4-week lockdown had significant impact on reducing the atmospheric levels of NO_(2)in all cities except for the small city of Santander as well as CO,SO_(2),and PM_(10)in some cities,but resulted in increase of O_(3)level.

Low energy consumption is one of the main challenges for wireless video transmission on battery limited devices. The energy invested at the lower layers of the protocol stack involved in data communication, such as link and physical layer, represent an important part of the total energy consumption. This communication energy highly depends on the channel conditions and on the transmission data rate. Traditionally, video coding is unaware of varying channel conditions. In this paper, we propose a cross-layer approach in which the rate control mechanism of the video codec becomes channel-aware and steers the instantaneous output rate according to the channel conditions to reduce the communication energy. Our results show that energy savings of up to30% can be obtained with a reduction of barely 0.1 dB on the average video quality. The impact of feedback delays is shown to be small. In addition, this adaptive mechanism has low complexity, which makes it suitable for real-time applications.

Automatic detection of Acacia longifolia invasive species based on UAV-acquired aerial imagery

The Acacia longifolia species is known for its rapid growth and dissemination,causing loss of biodiversity in the affected *** order to avoid the uncontrolled spread of this species,it is important to effectively monitor its distribution on the agroforestry *** this purpose,this paper proposes the use of Convolutional Neural Networks(CNN)for the detection of Acacia longifolia,from images acquired by an unmanned aerial *** models based on the same CNN architecture were *** classifies image patches into one of nine possible classes,which are later converted into a binary model;this model presented an accuracy of 98:6%and 98:5%in the validation and training sets,*** second model was trained directly for binary classification and showed an accuracy of 98:8%and 98:7%for the validation and test sets,*** results show that the use of multiple classes,useful to provide the aerial vehicle with richer semantic information regarding the environment,does not hamper the accuracy of Acacia longifolia detection in the classifier’s primary *** presented system also includes a method for increasing classification’s accuracy by consulting an expert to review the model’s predictions on an automatically selected sub-set of the samples.

In this paper we develop an a posteriori error analysis of a fully-mixed finite element method for a fluid-solid interaction problem in 2D. The media are governed by the elas-todynamic and acoustic equations in time-harmonic regime, respectively, the transmission conditions are given by the equilibrium of forces and the equality of the corresponding normal displacements, and the fluid is supposed to occupy an annular region surrounding the solid, so that a Robin boundary condition imitating the behavior of the sommerfeld condition is imposed on its exterior boundary. Dual-mixed approaches are applied in both domains, and the governing equations are employed to eliminate the displacenent a of the solid and the pressure p of the fluid. In addition, since both transmission conditions become essential, they are enforced weakly by means of two suitable lahrange multipliers The unknowns of the solid and the fluid are then approximated by a conforming galerkin scheme defined in terms of PEERS elements in the solid, Raviart-Thomas of lowest order in the fluid, and continuous piecewise linear functions on the boundary, As the main con-tribution of this work, we derive a reliable and efficient residual-based a posteriori error estimator for the aforedescribed coupled problem. Some numerical results confirming the properties of the estimator are also reported.

We present a fast Galerkin spectral method to solve logarithmic singular equations on segments. The proposed method uses weighted first-kind Chebyshev polynomials. Conver- gence rates of several orders are obtained for fractional Sobolev spaces H^-1/2 （or H00^-l/2）. Main tools are the approximation properties of the discretization basis, the construction of a suitable Hilbert scale for weighted L2-spaces and local regularity estimates.
