With increasing age,humans become more susceptible to the onset of neurodegenerative diseases(NDs),and among these,Alzheimer's disease(AD) is the most frequent(Nicoletti et al.,2023).NDs are primarily characterized by neuronal loss and atrophy,but also by lesions involving the cerebral and/or cardiovascular system(balistreri,2021).Lesions such as macroinfa rcts,microinfarcts,hemorrhages,white matter lesions,atherosclerosis,and arteriolosclerosis have also been significantly described in the preclinical stages of cognitive impairment characterizing NDs(Mariani et al.,2007).

Cells,tissues,and organs are constantly subjected to the action of mechanical forces from the extracellular environment-and the nervous system is no ***-intrinsic properties such as membrane lipid composition,abundance of mechanosensors,and cytoskeletal dynamics make cells more or less likely to sense these *** and extrinsic cues are integrated by cells and this combined information determines the rate and dynamics of membrane protrusion growth or retraction(Yamada and Sixt,2019).Cell protrusions are extensions of the plasma membrane that play crucial roles in diverse contexts such as cell migration and neuronal synapse *** the nervous system,neurons are highly dynamic cells that can change the size and number of their pre-and postsynaptic elements(called synaptic boutons and dendritic spines,respectively),in response to changes in the levels of synaptic activity through a process called *** plasticity is a hallmark of the nervous system and is present throughout our lives,being required for functions like memory formation or the learning of new motor skills(Minegishi et al.,2023;Pillai and Franze,2024).

Proton exchange membrane(PEM)water electrolysis represents a promising technology for green hydrogen production,but its widespread deployment is greatly hindered by the indispensable usage of platinum group metal catalysts,especially iridium(Ir)based materials for the energy-demanding oxygen evolution reaction(OER).Herein,we report a new sequential precipitation approach to the synthesis of mixed Ir-nickel(Ni)oxy-hydroxide supported on antimony-doped tin oxide(ATO)nanoparticles(IrNiyO_(x)/ATO,20 wt.%(Ir+Ni),y=0,1,2,and 3),aiming to reduce the utilisation of scarce and precious Ir while maintaining its good acidic OER *** tested in strongly acidic electrolyte(0.1 M HClO_(4)),the optimised IrNi1Ox/ATO shows a mass activity of 1.0 mAµgIr^(−1) and a large turnover frequency of 123 s^(−1) at an overpotential of 350 mV,as well as a comparatively small Tafel slope of 50 mV dec^(−1),better than the IrOx/ATO control,particularly with a markedly reduced Ir loading of only 19.7µgIr cm^(−2).Importantly,IrNi1O_(x)/ATO also exhibits substantially better catalytic stability than other reference catalysts,able to continuously catalyse acidic OER at 10 mA cm^(−2) for 15 h without obvious *** in-situ synchrotron-based x-ray absorption spectroscopy confirmed that the Ir^(3+)/Ir^(4+)species are the active sites for the acidic ***,the performance of IrNi1Ox/ATO was also preliminarily evaluated in a membrane electrode assembly,which shows better activity and stability than other reference *** IrNi1Ox/ATO reported in this work is a promising alternative to commercial IrO_(2) based catalysts for PEM electrolysis.

Transcriptomic responses to drought stress in the Patagonian southern beech Nothofagus alpina

Background Deciphering the genetic architecture of drought tolerance could allow the candidate genes identification responding to water stress. In the Andean Patagonian forest, the genus Nothofagus represents an ecologically relevant species to be included in different genomic studies. These studies are scarce in South American ecosystems however represent an important source of genomic data in order to interpret future climate-change environment scenarios of these emblematic forests. Here, we achieved the assemblage of the transcriptome of N. alpina while searching for key genes of activated or suppressed metabolic pathways in response to drought *** De novo transcriptome assembly resulted in 104,030 transcripts. Following confirmation of drought conditions, based on reduction of leaf water potential and stomatal conductance, a differential gene expression analysis resulted in 2720 significantly expressed genes(1601 up-regulated and 1119 down-regulated). Enrichment analysis(over-representation analysis and gene set enrichment analysis) resulted in more than one hundred stress-responsive term ontologies(i.e. biological processes) and pathways. Terms such as response to abscisic acid and pathways such as plant hormone signal transduction or starch and sucrose metabolism were over-represented. Protein–protein interaction assessment resulted in networks with significantly expressed top common hub gene clusters(e.g. planttype cell wall biogenesis among down-regulated or ABA-signalling among up-regulated). Aqueous rechargeable zinc batteries are getting increasing attention for large-scale energy storage owing to their advantages in terms of cost,environmental friendliness and ***,the layered puckeredγ’-V_(2)O_(5) polymorph with a porous morphology is firstly introduced as cathode for an aqueous zinc battery system in a binary Zn^(2+)/Li^(+)*** Zn‖γ’-V_(2)O_(5) cell delivers high capacities of 240 and190 mAh g^(-1) at current densities of 29 and 147 mA g^(-1),respectively,and remarkable cycling stability in the 1.6 V-0.7 V voltage window(97%retention after 100 cycles at 0.15 A g^(-1)).The detailed structural evolution during first discharge-charge and subsequent cycling is investigated using X-ray diffraction and Raman *** demonstrate a reaction mechanism based on a selective Li insertion in the1.6 V-1.0 V voltage *** involves a reversible exchange of 0.8 Li^(+)in γ’-V_(2)O_(5) and the same structural response as the one reported in lithiated organic ***,in the extended 1.6 V-0.7 V voltage range,this work puts forward a concomitant and gradual phase transformation from γ’-V_(2)O_(5) to zinc pyrovanadate Zn_(3)V_(2)O_(7)(OH)2.2 H_(2)O(ZVO)during *** mechanism involving the in-situ formation of ZVO,known as an efficient Zn and Li intercalation material,explains the high electrochemical performance here reported for the Zn‖γ’-V_(2)O_(5) *** work highlights the peculiar layered-puckeredγ’-V_(2)O_(5) polymorph outperforms the conventionalα-V_(2)O_(5) with a huge improvement of capacity of 240 mAh g^(-1)vs 80 mAh g^(-1) in the same electrolyte and voltage window.

Candida auris since it discovery in 2009 is becoming a severe threat to human health due to its very quickly spread, its worldwide high resistance to systemic antifungal drugs. In resource-constrained settings where several conditions are met for its emergence and spread, this worrisome fungus could cause large hospital and/or community-based outbreaks. This review aimed to summarize the available data on C. auris in Africa focusing on its epidemiology and antifungal resistance profile. Major databases were searched for articles on the epidemiology and antifungal resistance profile of C. auris in Africa. Out of 2,521 articles identified 22 met the inclusion criteria. In Africa, nearly 89% of African countries have no published data on C. auris. The prevalence of C. auris in Africa was 8.74%. The case fatality rate of C. auris infection in Africa was 39.46%. The main C. auris risk factors reported in Africa were cardiovascular disease, renal failure, diabetes, HIV, recent intake of antimicrobial drugs, ICU admissions, surgery, hemodialysis, parenteral nutrition and indwelling devices. Four phylogenetic clades were reported in Africa, namely clades I, II, III and IV. Candida auris showed a pan-African very high resistance rate to fluconazole, moderate resistance to amphotericin B, and high susceptibility to echinocandins. Finally, C. auris clade-specific mutations were observed within the ERG2, ERG3, ERG9, ERG11, FKS1, TAC1b and MRR1 genes in Africa. This systematic review showed the presence of C. auris in the African continent and a worrying unavailability of data on this resilient fungus in most African countries.

Cutaneous lesions and disorders in healthy neonates and their relationships with maternal-neonatal factors: a cross-sectional study

Background:Cutaneous lesions are very common in *** a number of studies have reported on their incidence,very little is known about the factors that influence *** set out to investigate a large population of neonates with the aims of achieving an overall picture of neonatal skin manifestations,and examining their relationships with various maternal,neonatal and perinatal ***:This study was conducted on neonates born at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Szeged between June 2013 and July 2015.A total of 4658 consecutive infants underwent a whole-body skin examination within the first 72 hours of extrauterine *** official neonatal medical charts were used to collect data on the history of the participating neonates and on maternal ***:74.35% of the neonates exhibited at least one skin *** major diagnosis groups were transient,benign cutaneous lesions;vascular lesions;traumatic,iatrogenic,congenital or acquired disorders with skin injuries;pigmented lesions;and developmental abnormalities or benign skin *** relationships between the skin findings and six neonatal or maternal factors were examined:gender,gestational age and birth weight of the neonates;maternal age and the number of previous pregnancies of the mothers,and mode and circumstances of the ***:We found several significant correlations between the examined maternal/neonatal factors and the occurrence of birthmarks and neonatal skin *** course,further studies are required to confirm and better understand these associations.
