PURPOSE: Determine persistence and adherence of glaucoma patients to therapeutic regimens of prostaglandin/-prostamide-class IOP-lowering medications. DESIGN: Retrospective, population-based study. mETHODS: Glaucoma patients in the ImS Health LifeLink database with a pha.m.cy cla.m.or latanoprost (n = 1567), travoprost (n = 381), or bimatoprost (n = 476) between September, 2001 and march, 2002 who had no cla.m. for IOP-lowering medication in the previous 180 days, and who were persistent during the first 90 days of therapy. Values reported in the quantity dispensed and days supply fields of the database were used in an algorithmthat corrected anomalous data and adjusted days supply to calculate the main outcome measures, persistence, and adherence to therapy. RESULTS: The percentage of patients persistent for the 12-month observation period was 69.4%(1087/1567) for those prescribed latanoprost, 70.6%(269/381) for those prescribed travoprost, and 68.1%(324/467) for those prescribed bimatoprost. mean adherence for patients prescribed latanoprost was 75.4%of the year, for those prescribed travoprost, 77.1%of the year, and for those prescribed bimatoprost, 78.2%of the year. The mean number of days adherent for bimatoprost-treated patients (291.2 days)was significantly greater than for latanoprost-treated patients (281.0 days), and not remarkably different from travoprost-treated patients (287.0 days). CONCLUSIONS: Overall, patients in this study who were taking IOP-lowering prostaglandin/prostamide medications had a.m.an adherence rate of 76%on average, suggesting that opportunities remain for improvement of adherence to therapeutic regimens for glaucoma trea.m.nt with prostamides and prostaglandins.

A new approach for isolation and identification of elecrtophilic mutagens from complex matrix was developed. Thiosulforfic anion was immobilized onto polystyrene beads and used as separation media. Potassium polystyryl-thiosulfonate, prepared from polystyryl- sulfonyl chloride and KHS, was observed to selectively react with model electrophilic mutagens such as alkyl halides, ct-chloroketones and α-chloroesters to produce polystyryl-thiosulfonlc esters. After separation from other nonreactive organic compounds, the beads then reacted with ethanethiol to produce unsymmetrical ethyl disulfides which are easily detected by GC/mS. For one mutagenic compound, only one unsymmetrical disulfide was found to contain its structure part. Thus, the structure of the parent mutagens could be deduced from that of the unsymmetrical disulfides. The degree of functionalization of the potassium polystyryl-thiosulfonate resin was 1.11 mmol/g. Its reactivity was discussed and its recycling method was reported here.

The identification of jets originating from quarks and gluons,often referred to as quark/gluon tagging,plays an important role in various analyses performed at the Large Hadron Collider,as Standard model measurements and searches for new particles decaying to quarks often rely on suppressing a large gluon-induced *** paper describes the measurement of the efficiencies of quark/gluon taggers developed within the ATLAS Collaboration,using √s=13 TeV proton–proton collision data with an integrated luminosity of 140 fb^(-1) collected by the ATLAS *** taggers with high performances in rejecting jets from gluon over jets from quarks are studied:one tagger is based on requirements on the number of inner-detector tracks associated with the jet,and the other combines several jet substructure observables using a boosted decision tree.a.m.thod is established to determine the quark/gluon fraction in data,by using quark/gluon-enriched subsamples defined by the jet *** in tagging efficiency between data and simulation are provided for jets with transverse momentum between 500 GeV and 2 TeV and for multiple tagger working points.

A field enhanced flow reactor using bias assisted photocatalysis was developed for bacterial disinfection in lab-synthesized and natural waters. The reactor provided complete inactivation of contaminated waters with flow rates of 50 mL/min. The device consisted of titanium dioxide nanotube arrays, with an externally applied bias of up to 6 V. Light intensity, applied voltage, background electrolytes and bacteria concentration were all found to impact the device performance. Complete inactivation of Escherichia coli W3110（- 8 × 10^3CFU/mL） occurred in 15 sec in the reactor irradiated at 25 mW/cm^2 with an applied voltage of 4 V in a 100 ppm NaCl solution. Real world testing was conducted using source water from Emigration Creek in Salt Lake City, Utah. Disinfection of natural creek water proved more challenging, providing complete bacterial inactivation after 25 sec at 6 V. A reduction in bactericidal efficacy was attributed to the presence of inorganic and organic species, as well as the increase in robustness of natural bacteria.

With European Laser Facilities such as the Extreme Light Infrastructure(ELI) and the Helmholtz International Beamline for Extreme Fields(HIBEF) scheduled to come online within the next couple of years, General Atomics, as a.m.jor supplier of targets and target components for the High Energy Density Physics community in the United States, is gearing up to meet their demand for large numbers of low cost targets. Using the production of a subassembly for the National Ignition Facility's fusion targets as an example, we demonstrate that through automation of assembly tasks, the design of targets and their experimental setup can be fairly complex while keeping the assembly time and cost as a.m.nimum.A six-axis mitsubishi robot is used in combination with vision feedback and a force–torque sensor to assemble target subassemblies of different scales and designs with minimal change of tooling, allowing for design flexibility and short assembly setup times. Implementing automated measurement routines on a Nikon NEXIV microscope further reduces the effort required for target metrology, while electronic data collection and transfer complete a streamlined target production operation that can be adapted to a large variety of target designs.
