The retina is a multilayered tissue that develops following a central-to-peripheral gradient. Its structure derives from multipotent precursors, as shown through clonal analysis of retinal cell lineage. These progenitors generate diverse cell types, controlled by complex influences of intrinsic and extrinsic factors （Hatakevama and Kagevama, 2004）.

Payments for ecosystem services (PES) have been created worldwide to assist watershed management and improve or maintain water quality. Considering their importance, we conducted a holistic review of payment for water-related ecosystem services to understand how this instrument has been applied in watershed management worldwide. First, we identified the watershed management actions considered by the PES programs and the challenges of implementing water-related PES. After we identified the methods and criteria used to define priority areas for water-related PES. Our review considered articles published on the Web of Science from 2011 to 2022. We found 236 articles relating PES to water resources, highlighting the main water conservation strategies: native vegetation conservation, native vegetation restoration, and implementing best agricultural practices. The method most frequent was interview, followed by the use of technologies, document analysis, and hydrological models. Another significant result was that priority areas for receiving PES are mainly riparian zones, areas near or with native vegetation cover, areas with higher erosion potential, steep areas, and areas with socially vulnerable communities. This review was crucial to identify efficient water resource conservation strategies and potential challenges in the implementation and development of PES programs.

Background： Recent technological advances in genomics have allowed the genotyping of cattle through single nucleotide polymorphism（SNP） panels. High-density SNP panels possess greater genome coverage and are useful for the identification of conserved regions of the genome due to selection, known as selection signatures（SS）. The SS are detectable by different methods, such as the extended haplotype homozygosity（EHH）; and the integrated haplotype score（i HS）, which is derived from the EHH. The aim of this study was to identify SS regions in Canchim cattle（composite breed）, genotyped with high-density SNP ***： A total of 687,655 SNP markers and 396 samples remained for SS analysis after the genotype quality control. The i HS statistic for each marker was transformed into pi HS for better interpretation of the *** BTA5 and BTA14 showed pi HS 〉 5, with 39 and nine statistically significant SNPs（P 〈 0.00001）,respectively. For the candidate selection regions, i HS values were computed across the genome and averaged within non-overlapping windows of 500 Kb. We have identified genes that play an important role in metabolism,melanin biosynthesis（pigmentation）, and embryonic and bone ***： The observation of SS indicates that the selection processes performed in Canchim, as well as in the founder breeds（i.e. Charolais）, are maintaining specific genomic regions, particularly on BTA5 and BTA14. These selection signatures regions could be associated with Canchim characterization.

BACKGROUND Obesity has been associated with hepatic overexpression of the renin-angiotensin system(RAS).AIM To evaluate the action of two angiotensin II(ANGII) receptor blockers(losartan or telmisartan) on the modulation of local hepatic RAS and the resulting metabolic effects in a diet-induced obesity murine *** Twenty C57 BL/6 mice were randomly divided into two nutritional groups for 10 wk: control group(C, n = 5, 10% of energy as fat) or high-fat group(HF, n = 15,50% of energy as fat). After treatment started, the HF group was randomly divided into three groups: untreated HF group(n = 5), HF treated with losartan(HFL, n = 5) and HF treated with telmisartan(HFT, n = 5). The treatments lasted for 5 wk, and the dose was 10 mg/kg body *** HF diet induced body mass gain(+28%, P demonstrated by reduced hepatic triacylglycerol levels coupled with reduced PLIN 2 expression and improved glycemic control.

Impacts of Climate Change on the Hydrology of a Small Brazilian Headwater Catchment Using the Distributed Hydrology-Soil-Vegetation Model

Climate change is one of the greatest issues for human society. The objective of this study is to assess the impacts of future climate change on seasonal average discharge and monthly water budget in a small headwater catchment, located on the Grande River basin, in Minas Gerais, Brazil. The assessment is carried out using the hydrology model, DHSVM. The atmospheric forcing to drive the Distributed Hydrology-Soil-Vegetation Model (DHSVM) is derived from the downscaling of the HadGEM2-ES projections by the Eta Regional Climate Model, at 5-km high resolution. The projections assume the RCP4.5 and RCP8.5 IPCC AR5 emission scenarios. Baseline period was taken between 1961 and 1990. The projections are assessed in three time slices (2011-2040, 2041-2070 and 2071-2099). The climate change is assessed in time slices of 30 years and in comparison against the baseline period to evaluate the hydrological changes in the catchment. The results showed differences in the hydrological behavior between the emission scenarios and though time slices. Reductions in the magnitude of the seasonal average discharge and monthly water budget may alter the water availability. Under the RCP4.5 scenario, results show greater reductions in the water availability in the first time slice, whereas under RCP8.5 scenario greater reductions are indicated in the third time slice.

Hemangioma is the most common benign tumor affecting the liver in 7% of general population. One of the rare presentations of this pathology is gigantic liver hemangioma, reported in the literature as anecdotal cases. In selected cases, liver transplantation has been a therapeutic option. We herein describe a case of massive liver hemangioma which was submitted to liver transplant, and the main indication for liver transplant in this case was a severe psychosocial impact of the disease in the patient’s life, altogether with Kasabach-Merritt syndrome and abdominal discomfort.
