We read with great interest the article that retrospectively analyzed 814 patients with primary gastric cancer,who underwent minimally invasive R0 gastrectomy between 2009 and 2014 by grouping them in laparoscopic vs robotic *** results of the study highlighted that age,American Society of Anesthesiologists status,gastrectomy type and pathological T and N status were the main prognostic factors of minimally invasive gastrectomy and showed how the robotic approach may improve long-term outcomes of advanced gastric *** to most of the current literature,robotic surgery is associated with a statistically longer operating time when compared to open and laparoscopic surgery;however,looking at the adequacy of resection,defined by negative surgical margins and number of lymph nodes removed,it seems that robotic surgery gives better results in terms of the 5-year overall survival and recurrencefree *** robotic approach to gastric cancer surgery aims to overcome the difficulties and technical limitations of laparoscopy in major *** threedimensional vision,articulation of the instruments and good ergonomics for the surgeon allow for accurate and precise movements which facilitate the complex steps of surgery such as lymph node dissection,esophagus-jejunal anastomosis packaging and reproducing the technical accuracy of open *** the literature,as well as the analyzed study,offers us countless data regarding the short-term oncological results of robotic surgery in the treatment of gastric cancer,satisfactory data on long-term follow-up are lacking,so future studies are necessary.

This paper analyses the impact of square wave pulse voltage deadtime on the partial discharge(PD)and the lifetime of turn-to-turn insulation.A bipolar repetitive pulse voltage with a deadtime of 0–10μs is produced using double half-bridge solid-state switches having push–pull technology controlled by a field-programmable gate *** mechanism of the discharge process at rising and falling edges of the pulse voltage before and after deadtime is analysed in *** discharge amplitude and PD probability at the rising/falling edges of the voltage waveform increase as the deadtime increases from 0 to 10μs due to the remanent *** number of PD and their intensity is higher at the first rising/falling edges of pulse voltage as compared to the second rising/falling edges for all deadtimes 0–10μ*** the deadtime increases beyond 2μs,the number of PDs increases and concentrates at a specific phase angle of rising/falling *** localise discharges degrade the insulation material and reduce its *** study helps to identify the inverter-fed motor insulation faults due to *** can provide guidelines to motor insulation designers to determine the limit value of deadtime to compensate PD and ensure the safer operation of such motors.

The electric field induced Lyman-a emission diagnostic aims to provide a non intrusive and precise measurement of the electric field in plasma, using a beam of hydrogen atoms prepared in the metastable 2s state. The metastable particles are obtained by means of a proton beam extracted from a hydrogen plasma source, and neutralised by interaction with vaporised caesium. When a 2s atom enters a region where an electric field is present, it undergoes a transition to the 2p state （Stark mixing）. It then quickly decays to the ground level, emitting Lyman-a radiation, which is collected by a photomultiplier. The 2s → 2p transition rate is proportional to the square of the magnitude of the electric field, and depends on the field oscillation frequency （with peaks around l GHz）. By measuring the intensity of the Lyman-a radiation emitted by the beam it is possible to determine the magnitude of the field in a defined region. In this work, an analysis of the behaviour of the diagnostic under static or radiofrequency electric field is presented. Electric field simulations obtained with a finite element solver of Maxwell equations, combined with theoretical calculations of the Stark mixing transition rate, are used to develop a model for the interpretation of photomultiplier data. This method shows good agreement with experimental results for the static field case, and allows to measure the field magnitude for the oscillating case.

Temporal variations of sediment and morphological characteristics at a large confluence accounting for the effects of floodplain submergence

The large confluence between the Yangtze River and the outflow channel of Poyang Lake is receiving attention due to its importance in flood control and ecological protection in the Yangtze River *** is a large floodplain along the outflow channel of Poyang Lake, which is submerged during high flow and dry during low flow. The effects of the submergence of this floodplain on sediment and morphological characteristics at this large confluence have not been known. Hence, a field investigation was done in March 2019(relatively high flow, Survey 3) to complement the previous field studies done in August(high flow, Survey 1) and December 2018(low flow, Survey 2) to identify the temporal variations of sediment and morphological characteristics considering the submergence of this large floodplain. The predominant sediment transport modes were wash load for Poyang Lake and confluence particles and mixed bedload/suspended load for the Yangtze River particles. The sediment transport processes were largely affected by both the secondary flows and the water density contrast between the tributaries with a lock-exchange sediment rich, denser flow moving across the inclined mixing interface in Surveys 1 and 2. The sediment flux across the mixing interface was weakened in Survey 3 when the density contrast was very small. The stagnation zone near the confluence apex had a low sediment concentration and played a role in preventing the sediment flux exchange between the two flows, and its size, and, thus, its importance as a barrier to sediment mixing were related to the submergence of the floodplain. The bed morphology with the local scour holes at the confluence was largely affected by the large-size helical cells, and this kind of effect was weakened as the secondary flows got restricted in Survey 3. The current results expand the database and knowledge on the sediment transport and morphological features of large river confluences.

Thermal and Electrical Modelling of a CPV/T System Varying Its Configuration

In this paper, the main aim is the performances modelling from the electrical and thermal point of view of a concentrating photovoltaic and thermal(CPV/T) system in order to evaluate the primary energy and economic savings respect to a traditional system, when the same energy loads are satisfied. This study is realized by both varying the CPV/T system configuration and considering two different users. In particular, the point-focus(PF), and linear focus(LF) configurations of the CPV/T system are considered in order to match the residential user and hotel energy loads. The CPV/T system is sized adopting as input data: the Direct Normal Irradiance(DNI) modelled by an artificial neural network and the users' energy demands. In these hypotheses, the performances of the PF and LF systems are evaluated and then compared for the two users located in Southern Italy, in terms of electrical and thermal energy production, cells number, space occupied, energy and economic savings and Co2 emissions avoided. Finally, the PF system shows a lower simple pay-back and a higher primary energy saving, while the space occupied by a LF system results to be lower respect to the PF configuration.

Locomotor adaptations in Plio-Pleistocene large carnivores from the Italian Peninsula： Palaeoecological implications

Mammalian carnivores are rarely considered for environmental reconstructions because they are extremely adaptable and their geographic range is usually large. However, the functional morphology of carnivore long bones can be indicative of locomotor behaviour as well as adaptation to specific kind of habitats. Here, different long bone ratios belonging to a subsample of extant large carnivores are used to infer palaeoecology of a comparative sample of Plio-Pleistocene fossils belonging to Italian paleo-communities. A multivariate long bone shape space reveals similarities between extant and fossil carnivores and multiple logistic regression models suggest that specific indices (the brachial and the Mt/F) can be applied to predict adaptations to grassland and tropical biomes. These functional indices exhibit also a phylogenetic signal to different degree. The brachial index is a significant predictor of adaptations to tropical biomes when phylogeny is taken into account, while Mt/F is not correlated anymore to habitat adaptations. However, the proportion of grassland-adapted carnivores in Italian paleo-communities exhibits a negative relationship with mean oxygen isotopic values, which are indicative of past climatic oscillations. As climate became more unstable during the Ice Ages, large carnivore guilds from the Italian peninsula were invaded by tropical/closed-adapted species. These species take advantage of the temperate forest cover that was more spread after 1.0 Ma than in the initial phase of the Quaternary (2.0 Ma) when the climate was more arid.
