Fuzzy-entropy based robust optimization criteria for tuned mass dampers

Tuned mass dampers (TMD) are well known as one of the most widely adopted devices in vibration control passive strategies. In the past few decades,many methods have been developed to find the optimal parameters of a TMD installed on a structure and subjected to a random base excitation process,but most of them are usually based on an implicit assumption that all of the structural parameters are deterministic. However,in many real cases this simplification is unacceptable,so robust optimal design criteria becomes aviable alternative to better support engineers in the design process. In Robust Design Optimization (RDO) approaches,indeed the solution must be able to not only minimize the performance but also to limitits variation induced by uncertainty. Most of the currently available RDO methods are based on a probabilistic description of the model uncertainty,even if in many cases they are not able to explicitly include the influence of all the possible sources of uncertainties. Therefore,in this study,a fuzzy version of the robust TMD design optimization problem is proposed. The consistency of the fuzzy approach is studied with respect to the available non-probabilistic formulations reported in the literature and an application to an example of a robust design of a linear TMD subjected to base random vibrations in the presence of fuzzy uncertainties. The results show that the proposed fuzzy-based approach is able to give a set of optimal solutions both in terms of structural efficiency and sensitivity to mechanical and environmental uncertainties.

In this paper,a structural analysis is performed to gain insights on the synergistic mechanical amplification effect thatCampaniform sensilla have when combined in an array *** order to simplify the analysis performed in this preliminaryinvestigation,an array of four holes in a single orthotropic lamina is ***,a Finite Element Method(FEM) analysis is performed to discretely assess the influence that different geometrical parameters have on the mechanicalamplification properties of the ***,an artificial neural network is used to obtain an approximated multi-dimensionalcontinuous function,which models the relationship between the geometrical parameters and the amplification properties of ***,an optimization is performed to identify the geometrical parameters yielding the maximum mechanical ***,results are validated with an additional FEM simulation performed by varying geometrical parameters in theneighborhood of the identified optimal *** method proposed in this paper can be fully automated and used to solvea wide range of optimization problems aimed at identifying optimal configurations of strain sensors inspired by Campaniformsensilla.

The activation and the resulting response of the immune system to antigens comprise different complex processes and cells. This paper aims at modeling the processes of recognition and learning of the immune system by means of the thermostatted kinetic theory methods. Specifically, the thermostatted kinetic framework is firstly generalized for taking into account that in some processes of proliferation of the cells, the rate is also function of the degree of information exchanged amongst cells. In particular, within the new framework, a mathematical model is proposed for miming the recognition process of the immune system through the definition of interactions between the cytoto^ic and humoral components of the adaptive immune system via T- and B-cells. The model validation is obtained by performing a sensitivity analysis on the parameters which depicts the main emerging phenomena and the different phases of the recognition and learning of the immune system.

Hepatitis C virus and diffuse large B-cell lymphoma: Pathogenesis, behavior and treatment

A significant association between hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection and B-cell lymphoma has been reported by epidemiological studies, most of them describing a strong relationship between indolent lymphomas and HCV. Furthermore, the curative potential of antiviral therapy on HCV related indolent lymphomas supports a specific role for the virus in lymphomagenesis. These observations are reinforced by numerous laboratory experiments that led to several hypothetical models of B-cell transformation by HCV. Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), the most common lymphoma subtype in the western countries, has been associated to HCV infection despite its aggressive nature. This association seems particularly prominent in some geographical areas. Clinical presentation of HCV-associated DLBCL has consistently been reported to differ from the HCV-negative counterpart. Nevertheless, histopathology, tolerance to standard-of-care chemo-immunotherapy (R-CHOP or CHOP-like regimens) and final outcome of HCV-positive DLBCL patients is still matter of debate. Addition of rituximab has been described to enhance viral replication but the probability of severe hepatic complications remains low, with some exceptions (i.e., hepatitis B virus or immune immunodeficiency virus co-infected patients, presence of grade > 2 transaminases elevation, cirrhosis or hepatocarcinoma). HCV viral load in this setting is not necessarily directly associated with liver damage. Overall, treatment of HCV associated DLBCL should be performed in an interdisciplinary approach with hepatologists and hematologists with close monitoring of liver function. Available reports reveal that the final outcome of HCV-positive DLBCL that receive standard immunochemotherapy is not inferior to their HCV-negative counterpart. Occult hepatitis B virus(HBV)infection(OBI)is a challenging pathobiological and clinical issue that has been widely debated for several *** definition,OBI is characterized by the persistence of HBV DNA in the liver tissue(and in some cases also in the serum)in the absence of circulating HBV surface antigen(HBsAg).Many epidemiological and molecular studies have indicated that OBI is an important risk factor for hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)*** may exert direct pro-oncogenic effects through the activation of the same oncogenic mechanisms that are activated in the course of an HBsAg-positive ***,in OBI as in HBV-positive infection,HBV DNA can persist in the hepatocytes both integrated into the host genome as well as free episome,and may maintain the capacity to produce proteins-mainly X protein and truncated preS-S protein-provided with potential transforming ***,OBI may indirectly favor HCC *** has been shown that the persistence of very low viral replicative activity during OBI may induce mild liver necro-inflammation continuing for life,and substantial clinical evidence indicates that OBI canaccelerate the progression of liver disease towards cirrhosis that is considered the most important risk factor for HCC development.

This research addresses the design of intensity-curvature functional(ICF)based digital high pass filter(HPF).ICF is calculated from bivariate cubic B-spline model polynomial function and is called ICF-based *** order to calculate ICF,the model function needs to be second order differentiable and to have non-null classic-curvature calculated at the origin(0,0)of the pixel coordinate *** theoretical basis of this research is called intensitycurvature *** concept envisions to replace signal intensity with the product between signal intensity and sum of second order partial derivatives of the model *** of the concept in two-dimensions(2D)makes it possible to calculate the ICF of an *** treatise is presented to demonstrate the hypothesis that ICF is HPF *** evidence then validates the assumption and also extends the comparison between ICF-based HPF and ten different HPFs among which is traditional HPF and particle swarm optimization(PSO)based *** comparison of image space and k-space magnitude,results indicate that HPFs behave *** HPF filtering and ICF-based filtering are superior to PSO-based *** filtered with traditional HPF are sharper than images filtered with ICF-based *** contribution of this research can be summarized as follows:(1)Math description of the constraints that ICF need to obey to in order to function as HPF;(2)Math of ICF-based HPF of bivariate cubic B-spline;(3)Image space comparisons between HPFs;(4)K-space magnitude comparisons between *** research provides confirmation on the math procedure to use in order to design 2D HPF from a model bivariate polynomial function.

DZ Lyn:a contact binary with components in poor thermal contact

CCD photometric observations of the short-period eclipsing binary DZ Lyn were obtained during seven nights in March-April 2008 in the B, V, Rc and Ic bands; these observations confirm the short-period （P = 0.378 d） of the system. The presented light curves are analyzed by means of the 2003 version of the Wilson-Devinney （WD） program. A grid of solutions for several fixed values of mass ratio was calculated. The best fitting possible is for a mass ratio of q -- 0.885, a degree of contact f = 0.18 and a low orbital inclination of i = 57.6°. The results show that DZ Lyn is an A-subtype W Ursae Majoris contact binary in poor thermal contact; in fact the difference between the mean temperatures of the components is about 1800 K. The star DZ Lyn seems to be another member of the class of poorly understood close binaries in or near geometrical contact but far from thermal contact. The absolute dimensions are estimated and its dynamical evolution is inferred.
