The literature is controversial regarding the dietary recommendations for hospitalized patients in Brazil. Objective: We aim.d to determine whether the energy content of the diet for hospitalized patients met their energy requirements measured by indirect calorimetry. methods: Cross-sectional study conducted on adult hospitalized patients of both sexes. The prescription food was checked by reading the charts. Nutritional status was evaluated on the basis of weight, abdominal circumference (AbC), arm circumference (AC), body mass index and waist/hip ratio (WHR). The resting energy requirements of the patients were determined by indirect calorimetry. The diets offered were collected on 3 random non-consecutive days. Total nitrogen, lipid, water, ash and carbohydrate content of the menus were determined. Patients receiving a general or low-sodium.diet by the oral route participated in the study. The Student T test was used to analyze the differences in energy expenditure between individuals. The association between gender and percent adequacy of the diet was calculated by the Fisher exact test. The level of significance was set at p died 46 adult patients of both genders (29 women and 17 men) aged 45 ± 16 years. Anthropometric evaluation re-vealed a mean weight of 72 ± 26 kg, BmI of 28 ± 10 kg/m2. 78% of the patients received energy above their require-ments, with this value increasing to 82% when obese patients were excluded. Conclusion: Since the hospital diet is an important and often vital resource for the recovery of patients and in view of the high prevalence of undernutrition or obesity, it is fundamental to adjust it to the intra-hospital reality.

The soil mesofauna plays a role in organic matter comminution and decomposition, and can be used as bioindicators, since they are sensitive to soil management, vegetation and climate changes. Hence, this study aim.d to evaluate mesofauna density and diversity in different land use systems to identify faunal relationships with soil properties, management and seasonality. The study area included five land use systems in Ponta Grossa municipality, Parana State： integrated crop-livestock （ICL）, integrated crop-livestock-forestry （ICLF）, grazed native pasture （NP）, Eucalyptus dunnii plantation （EU） and no-tillage （NT） cropping systems. In each system, eight soil samples for mesofauna were collected with Berlese funnels of 8 cm.diameter along a transect in three replicate plots of 50 m × 100 m. For physical and chemical analysis, soil was sampled at five points per plot in two seasons： winter 2012 and autumn 2013. data were statistically analyzed using ANOVA and duncan＇s test （P 〈 0.05）, nonparametric statistics （when necessary） and redundancy analysis （RdA）. diversity was calculated based on the group richness and Simpson index. The main mesofauna groups found were： Acarina, Collembola and Hymenoptera. diplopoda, Enchytraeidae, Isopoda, Collembola, Hemiptera, Hymenoptera and Coleoptera larvae were more abundant in autumn than winter. Soil moisture was the main factor responsible for higher mesofauna abundance in autumn. Integrated production systems, especially ICLF had similar invertebrate community abundance and composition with EU, while NT favored Oribatid mites, although the use of insecticides, herbicides and fungicides reduced total mesofauna density. most correlations between mesofauna and physical-chemical attributes in the winter were not observed in the autumn and vice versa, revealing that there are more factors involved in regulating soil mesofauna distribution.

Chemical pesticides tend to accumulate in soil, resulting in human and environmental health risks. Hence, alternative methodologies involving chemical pesticides are beneficial for the control of agricultural pests. Metarhizium anisopliae is an entomopathogenic fungus that acts on different developmental stages of pest insects such as Diatraea saccharalis, a holometabolic lepidopteran with high potential for infestation in sugarcane crops. The present study evaluated the biocontrol effect of M. anisopliae isolates MT and E9 on D. saccharalis eggs at different ages by investigating the external and internal morphological alterations in treated eggs. Conidial suspensions of M. anisopliae isolated from MT and E9 at concentrations of 107 conidia/mL were applied to eggs of D. saccharalismily:Verdana;"> aged 0, 24, 48, 72, 96 and 120 h. The eggs were observed every 24 h during development (0 h to 144 h). Samples were collected for observational, histological, and ultrastructural analyses. We found that the mT isolate caused 100% inviability of eggs aged 0 - 72 h, 144 h after the bioassays, while the effect of the E9 isolate varied between 49.40% and 93.75%. m

Objective: To characterize the scientific production related to the impact of urinary incontinence on quality of life of pregnant women. method: An integrative review carried out from September 2014 to may 2015. The search was conducted in six databases, and a final sample of seventeen publications was presented. The data were presented in tables. Results: Incontinence related factors are: Being older, second pregnancy, multiparity, constipation, smoking, and obesity. Stress incontinence is the most occurring in pregnant women, causing an adverse impact on quality of life. discussion: It is for health professionals who try to create effective coping strategies for minimizing consequences generated by the accidental loss of urine. Conclusion: Urinary incontinence affects the mother’s life, resulting in social, behavioral, physical and emotional harm, taking this woman to be excluded from society and feel insecure about their health.

Negative association between trunk fat, insulin resistance and skeleton in obese women

AIm: To evaluate the potential interference of trunk fat (TF) mass on metabolic and skeletal metabolism. mETHOdS: In this cross-sectional study, 340 obese women (mean age: 44.8 ± 14 years; body mass index: 36.0 ± 5.9 kg/m 2 ) were included. Patients were evaluated for serum vitamin d, osteocalcin (OSCA), inflammatory markers, lipids, glucose and insulin (homeostasis m.del assessment of insulin resistance, HOmA-IR) levels, and hormones profile. moreover, all patients underwent measurements of bone mineral density (Bmd;at lumbar and hip site) and body composition (lean mass, total and trunk fat mass) by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry. RESULTS: data showed that: (1) high TF mass was inversely correlated with low Bmd both at lumbar (P d hip (P d with serum vitamin d (P d insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1; P d between TF and HOmA-IR (P d erythrocyte sedimentation rate (P min d levels were directly correlated with IGF-1 (P mbar (P d hip (P md; and (4) inversely with HOmA-IR (P d fibrinogen (P multivariate analysis demonstrated that only vitamin d was independent of TF variable. CONCLUSION: In obese women, TF negatively correlates with Bmd independently from vitamin d levels. Reduced IGF-1 and increased inflammatory markers might be some important determinants that account for this relationship.

Objective: The study aims to evaluate the use of a teaching method proposed by Paulo Freire, Culture Circles, in the education of teenagers multipliers on leprosy awareness. methods: It is an action-research study with a qualitative approach developed in a public school in Pernambuco, Brazil. Five Culture Circles were conducted involving the participation of 26 teenagers. The followings were used as data collection tools: observation, field notes, photography and filming. Results: The educational intervention on health addressed the following topics: 1) definition and transmission of leprosy;2) Characteristics and diagnosis of leprosy;3) Treatment of leprosy;4) Aesthetics, prejudice and mental health related to leprosy;and 5) Planning of educational activities for teenagers as health multipliers on leprosy awareness. The educational action on health provided this age group to perceive themselves, act as political subjects in the development of Culture Circles, and act as protagonists in the dissemination of knowledge on leprosy. Conclusions: This study highlights that the application of active methodologies, such as Culture Circles, is able to encourage the engagement of young people in community empowerment and bring together health professionals and the school community in an intersectoral work in order to develop action strategies involving the promotion of health in the context of neglected diseases such as leprosy.

After the first detection of the gram-negative bacterium,Xylella fastidiosa multiplex in Portugal,in January 2019,a“demarcated Area”was delimited and an“Action Plan”to control the pathogen has been *** is considered one of the greatest threats to plant health worldwide and leads to loss of forests vitality and *** current study was developed till June 2020,with the objective to understand the dimension of the issue worldwide and in Portugal,analyzing the state-of-the-art on the biology,dispersion,symptoms,control and risks associated with this bacterium(Research Phase).In the Prospecting Phase,we collected 5 branches with 5-8 leaves,from the four quadrants of the tree,wrapping and labeling them-so 2,261 samples were collected and sent to the laboratory for *** was possible to determine that the two initial outbreaks were not an isolated case,as 107 additional outbreaks were detected in other places,revealing a much more worrying panorama,requiring further analysis on the real impact of this bacterial strain on the natural *** the end of this study the demarcated area covered about 62,000 *** most affected species was lavender with 30%of positive outbreaks,followed by gorse with 22%,and rosemary with 11%.Spread of Phillaenus spumarius and *** indicates that insect vector and transport links appear to be dispersal facilitators together with douro *** eradication is unfeasible to achieve in the coming years,containment will be the most appropriate strategy.
