Prevalence of autoantibodies against cellular antigens in patients with HIV and leprosy coinfection in the Amazon region

Background:Infectious agents can activate self-reactive T *** general,infections trigger various mechanisms,including a lack of auto-tolerance,induction of costimulatory molecules on antigen presenting cells,and molecular simulation,in addition to cross-reactions between microbial antigens and *** and leprosy coinfections lead to self-immunity with the production of ***,not enough data on the immune behaviour associated with this coinfection are ***,this study focused on the detection of autoantibodies against cellular antigens(AACA)in individuals with HIV and leprosy coinfection in the Amazon ***:Patients were distributed into four groups according to their infections:(i)coinfection with HIV and leprosy(n=23),(ii)infection with leprosy(n=33),(iii)infection with HIV/AIDS(n=25),and(iv)healthy blood donor controls(n=100).AACA were identified by indirect immunofluorescence and the samples were tested using a commercial diagnosis kit containing the antinuclear antibody ***:Morphologically,all stages of cell division were assessed in addition to the morphological features associated with the nuclear matrix,nucleolus,mitotic spindle,and *** was a high prevalence of AACA in the coinfection group(47.8%,n=11)when compared with the control group of healthy blood donors(2.0%).The results showed predominantly cytoplasmic staining in all groups analysed,and no difference was observed between the presence or absence of AACA and the leprosy forms(paucibacillary and multibacillary)in the coinfection ***:The results of this study show that despite the tendency of coinfected patients to have higher levels of autoantibodies,no correlation was observed between clinical and laboratorial variables and morbidity associated with HIV and leprosy coinfections or the levels of AACA in the serum of coinfected *** data are important to elucidate this complex relationship between HIV a

A combined computational pipeline to detect circular RNAs in human cancer cells under hypoxic stress

Preparation of the Rutin-SBA-16 Drug Delivery System

This study sets out a scheme for a controlled release delivery system using SBA-16 as a carrier matrix and Rutin as a drug (Rutin-SBA-16). Physicochemical characterizations were performed to confirm the structure of the SBA-16 for post-synthesis by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) and X-ray Diffraction (XRD). The presence of Rutin-SBA-16 was confirmed by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and Nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherms at 77 K. The dissolution kinetics was evaluated by the Zero Order, First Order and Higuchi models, and Rutin quantification was carried out by High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). The best impregnation time, which was 8 hours, adsorbing 284 μg Rutin per mg of silica, and the maximum degree of dissolution occurred in a period of 20 - 25 h. The release kinetics of the Rutin was called Higuchi, and showed high linearity, with a correlation coefficient (R2) of 0.999 compared with 0.905 and 0.980 of the zero order and first order models respectively. The study shows the benefits of Rutin-SBA-16 as a drug delivery system.

Dear Editor, Phosphorus (P) deficiency is the most limiting factor in tropical agriculture since most soils in this region are predominantly acids with high-energy P-binding compounds. Therefore, up to 90% of the P applied becomes fixed in soils, which raises environmental concerns and production costs (Syers et al., 2008). Thus, developing strategies to imptove P use efficiency (PUE) is essential to mitigate environmental problems and improve profits. These strategies should consider the soil-root-rhizosphere system because it is the most biochemical active site where nutrient uptake occurs (Hinsinger, 2011).

Introduction:Communities situated in protected areas generate conflicts among park administrators,residents and *** they stay or should they go?This article presents a positive example of a community existing in a state *** study describes the community’s governance process as well as how the park administration and the community solve the conflicts that arise and achieve a method of co-management in a multi-level governance ***:The analysis is based on the Management and Transition Framework(MTF).We used a case study approach and collected data via document study,participatory observation and qualitative ***:We find that the agreed system of community-based co-management has improved the implementation and enforcement of the state park’s rules through negotiation and communication mechanisms in the park *** relative success is due to the construction of social capital,equality and ***:For state parks in similar situations,the findings suggest that:1)a community should have at least a minimal level of self-organization;2)the empowerment of the community in the decision-making process is useful;3)the park administration should gain the trust of the residents;and 4)the effective management of ecosystem services can create a win-win situation for the community as well as the park.

Surface preparation and isotropic shear bond strength properties of superficial bovine dentin

The effect of different types of surface preparation with SiC abrasive paper on the shear bond strength (SBS) of superficial bovine dentin obtained from the incisal, middle and cervical thirds were evaluated. Dentin substrates were obtained with twenty specimens for each locationgrit combination. Superficial dentin was exposed and prepared to 120-, 320-, or 600-grit SiC;the dentin surfaces were treated with Optibond Solo Plus (Kerr) and polymerized for 20 s. The specimens were placed in a jig, filled with resin composite Z100 (3M-ESPE), polymerized for 40 s according to manufacturer’s instructions, and stored for 24 h at 37℃ and 100% humidity. After 24 h, SBS was measured using a loading testing machine (Ul-tradent) and expressed in megapascals. A two-way ANOVA and Tukey test were used for data analysis. No statistically significant effect of the location (P = 0.254) or interaction grit-location (P = 0.629) were observed on SBS. Statistically significant effect of the grit on the SBS was detected (P < 0.001) with 320-grit being statistically different from 600-grit (P = 0.011) and 120-grit (P < 0.001). No significant differences were observed between 600-grit and 120-grit (P = 0.413). Regardless of the location, 320-grit consistently showed the lowest SBS indicating that different surface grit preparations have an effect on dentin SBS values.

The three main components of the media layer of the aorta are elastic fibers,collagen fibers and smooth muscle cells(SMC).[1]This layer’s elastic properties are major determinants of its biomechanics in health and disease states.[2,3]Age-related changes in such elastic properties are associated with altered hemodynamic parameters,such as systolic hypertension,[4,5]and end-organ damage,[6,7]and are thought to result from changes of its main components.

Effect of silymarin on biochemical indicators in patients with liver disease: systematic review with meta-analysis

To evaluate the effect of silymarin on the serum levels of alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and gamma glutamyl transpeptidase (γGT) in patients with liver diseases. METHODSA systematic review with meta-analysis of ramdomized and controlled clinical trials was performed, evaluating the effects of sylimarin in patients with hepatic diseases, published by January 31, 2016. Clinical trials were sought on the basis of The Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials in the Cochrane Library, PubMed/Medline, Scopus, Web of Science, Lilacs and Clinical Trials. The trials with adult and elderly patients of both sexes, with Liver Diseases who took oral silymarin supplementation, as extract or isolated, as well as Silymarin combined with other nutrients, were included. The trials should provide information about the intervention, such as dosages and detailing of the product used, besides the mean and standard deviation of serum levels of ALT, AST and γGT of the baseline and at the end of the intervention. RESULTSAn amount of 10904 publications were identified. From those, only 17 were included in the systematic review and 6 in the meta-analysis, according to the used selection criteria. In this meta-analysis, the results indicated a reduction of 0.26 IU/mL (95%CI: -0.46-0.07, P = 0.007) at the level of ALT and 0.53 IU/mL (95%CI: -0.74-0.32, P = 0.000) at the serum levels of AST after using the silymarin, both, statistically significant, but with no clinical relevance. There was no significant change in the γGT levels. Subgroup analyzes were also performed for the biochemical markers in relation to the type of intervention, whether silymarin isolated or associated with other nutrients and the time of intervention (whether ≥ 6 mo or < 6 mo). Significant differences were not found. The evaluated studies presented a high degree of heterogeneity and low methodological quality in the carried out analysis. Chronic fatigue syndrome: An update for psychiatrists

Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is a poorly understood condition primarily characterized by debilitateing, persistent or recurrent fatigue, increased physical and mental fatigability, cognitive impairment and widespread musculoskeletal pain. During the past two decades, there have been heated debates about CFS among researchers, practitioners and patients. The existence of the disorder has been questioned, its underlying pathophysiology debated and an effective treatment opposed (such as antidepressants, stimulants or antibiotics). A lot of multidisciplinary literature is found about CFS, but to date, many psychiatrists seem to unknown the existence of this illness or think that it is a purely psychological disorder. However, CFS is sitting on the border between medicine and psychiatry. The aim of this review is to make psychiatrists aware of the existence of CFS and that they will, one day, be confronted with the management of this illness. Thus, this update allows understanding what is CFS, the diversity of physiopathology underlined and its management.

Ruthenium Catalyst Supported on Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotubes for CO Oxidation

This work proposes the synthesis of the 5%wt Ru on MWCNT catalyst and the influence of feed rate and testing variables for low-temperature oxidation affecting the CO2 yield. Morphology and incorporation of the nanoparticles in carbon nanotubes were investigated by specific surface area (BET method);thermogravimetric analyses (TGA);X-ray diffraction;Raman spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and XPS. The conversions of CO and O2 were mostly 100% in groups C1 and C2 (temperature between 200 and 500°C with low WHSV). In order to assess the effect of mass on catalytic activity, condition C3 was tested at even lower temperatures. In the tested catalyst, high activity (100% CO and O2 conversion) was observed, keeping it active under reaction conditions, suggesting oxi-reduction of the RuO2 at surface without affecting the MWCNT but Lewis acid influencing the CO2 yield.
