Hyperacusis and stapes surgery:An observation in fifty patients after stapedotomy

Objective:To assess hyperacusis after stapedotomy and its possible influencing *** design:Prospective,interventional,and longitudinal ***:A tertiary referral ***:Fifty consecutive patients(35 females,mean age=46.8 years).Intervention:All patients underwent *** validated Portuguese version of the“Hyperacusis Questionnaire”(HQ)was administered before and two weeks and one month after ***:No hyperacusis was reported by any patient before *** two weeks after surgery,all patients experienced hyperacusis,with a mean HQ at 16.88±6.54(range 4e25).One month after surgery,hyperacusis had already resolved in most ***,preoperative presentation or surgeon had no influence on HQ scores(p>0.05).Patients with previous contralateral stapedotomy showed lower HQ scores(p=0.001).Audiological parameters improvement measured at one month after surgery(PTA,SRT and contralateral SRT)were associated with HQ higher ***:This study confirms that hyperacusis is a common complaint after stapedotomy that usually resolves in one month after *** HQ highest scores were registered among patients with the highest audiological gain after *** suggests that hyperacusis may be a positive prognostic factor for audiological success after stapedotomy.

In the 16th-17th century, the Cervo stream flowed N-S, following the northern and eastern margins of the city of Vercelli, in northwest Italy. For centuries, the stream served as a waterway, as a gravel quarry, and for fishing. Besides being an important resource, the Cervo stream was also a constant threat to the integrity of the urban centre of VerceUi： Erosion was very high along the right bank and continuously damaged the city walls, as well as the eastern settlements between the city and the stream （＂Borghetto＂）. In the 16th-17th century, according to records of the Vercelli municipality, there is often reference to the ＂damage＂ to the city walls or to the city itself caused by stream flooding and erosion. There is also reference to the numerous attempts made to shift the course of the stream eastward, away from the city.

This paper articulates two great discussions within the history of this country： the discussions about the circumstances prior to the military coup and the role of the radio media in the political context of the conflict. Individually, each of these aspects will allow us a reflection over different points of view here articulated in a sociocultural approach. We have, thus, organized this discussion based on two main themes. We will start with the ＂campanha da Legalidade＂（campaign for Legality）, the occasion which congregates both themes, and then we will discuss both the historical context of the 1964 military coup and the role of the radio media and its strong social and political presence.

This study analyzes the stable isotopic ratio(δ18 O)and the synoptic characteristics of a precipitation event that occurred in the southernmost state of Brazil,Rio Grande do Sul,a region sensitive to explosive cyclogenesis in years with enhanced tropic-pole *** main objective was to evaluate the influence of tropical and Antarctic climate systems on the *** ring-down spectroscopy was used for the water isotopic analysis,and NCEP CFSv2 data were employed for the synoptic analysis of rainfall over a 48-h *** Amazonian isotopic signature on precipitated water was identified.A strong,low-level meridional flow from the Amazon Basin,combined with the development of a frontal system,resulted in intense cyclogenesis that generated an explosive cyclone.

Background:The efficacy of ivermectin in preventing hospitalization or extended observation in an emergency setting among outpatients with acutely symptomatic coronavirus disease 2019(Covid-19),the disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2),is ***:We conducted a double-blind,randomized,placebo-controlled,adaptive platform trial involving symptomatic SARS-CoV-2-positive adults recruited from 12 public health clinics in *** who had had symptoms of Covid-19 for up to 7 days and had at least one risk factor for disease progression were randomly assigned to receive ivermectin(400μg per kilogram of body weight)once daily for 3 days or placebo.(The trial also involved other interventions that are not reported here.)The primary composite outcome was hospitalization due to Covid-19 within 28 days after randomization or an emergency department visit due to clinical worsening of Covid-19(defined as the participant remaining under observation for>6 hours)within 28 days after randomization.

Blindness is a serious complication that can occur after facial trauma and may represent the loss of one of the most useful senses in the human relationship with the world—the sight. This study aims to review the pathophysiology of blindness related to facial trauma in order to identify the mechanisms by which it develops and to recognize the signs and symptoms required to establish proper diagnosis and treatment. Blindness following facial trauma may occur due to mechanisms that involve injury to the eyeball, optic nerve and eyelids. The leading causes of blindness resulting from facial trauma, and which may be altered by medical interference, are related to retrobulbar hemorrhage and traumatic optic neuropathy, which require extremely rapid diagnosis and can be accomplished with the resources available in most trauma-based emergency services. The authors conclude that loss of vision tends to be irreversible in direct eyeball and optic nerve lesions, but can be prevented in retrobulbar hemorrhage and traumatic optic neuropathy. Eyeball and, especially, sight accuracy evaluation should be included in the initial care of trauma patients, so that the lesions that might lead to loss of vision are diagnosed and treated early.

This work intended to characterize the seed morphology, water absorption patterns and to determine the vigor among different colored seeds of the species Centrolobium paraense （Fabaceae）. For this purpose, samaras which were opened were collected from two sites---Agua Boa （AB） and Taiano （TAI） lo^ated in the state of Roraima, and the seeds screened by the coat coloration （light brown/intermediate brown/dark brown） for four conditions （two sites and two years of collection）. Evaluation of water absorption by the seeds at different periods, mass of 1,000 seeds, water content, electrical conductivity （EC）, seedling emergence and emergence velocity （EV） were performed. The water absorption by the seeds of Centrolobium paraense indicates coat permeability to water and distinct absorptions according to coat colorations. The EC test is efficient in determining the physiological quality of seeds of Centrolobium paraense. Seed coat coloration affects the physiological quality of the seeds of Centrolobium paraense. It is possible to distinguish the seeds of AB and TAI into two degrees of physiological quality, the light brown-colored seeds being more vigorous.

Nursing Diagnosis in Patients with Liver Cirrhosis in Use of Feeding Tube

The objective was to identify the most frequent nursing diagnoses labels in patients with liver cirrhosis in use of feeding tube. A descriptive research was carried out in a Brazilian Hospital with 20 adult patients. Systematic data collection utilized the Conceptual Model of Wanda Horta, the first nurse to introduce the concept of Nursing Process in Brazil. The six phases of the nursing diagnostic reasoning proposed by Risner were used;nursing diagnoses were described according to NANDA-I taxonomy II. Patients were mainly male;half of them were middle age adults;they had an average of 12.8 nursing diagnoses labels;and the most frequent were: risk for aspiration and risk for infection. Nurses needed to develop effective skills to properly diagnose in order to provide safe care and improve patient outcomes.

AIM:To evaluate the influence of MUC1 mucin variable number of tandem repeats (VNTR) variability on H pylori adhesion to gastric cells. METHODS: Enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA)-based adhesion assays were performed to measure the adhesion of different H pylori strains (HP26695 and HPTx30a) to gastric carcinoma cell lines (GP202 and MKN45) and GP202 clones expressing recombinant MUC1 with different VNTR lengths. RESULTS: Evaluation of adhesion results shows that H pylori pathogenic strain HP26695 has a significantly higher (P cantly higher (P cantly higher (P < 0.05) adhesion to GP202 clones with larger MUC1 VNTR domains. CONCLUSION: This work shows that MUC1 mucin variability conditions H pylori binding to gastric cells. The extent of bacterial adhesion depends on the size of theMUC1 VNTR domain. The adhesion is further dependent on bacterial pathogenicity and the gastric cell line. MUC1 mucin variability may contribute to determine H pylori colonization of the gastric mucosa.
