Stimuli-evoked NOergic molecules and neuropeptides at acupuncture points and the gracile nucleus contribute to signal transduction of propagated sensation along the meridian through the dorsal medulla-thalamic pathways

Numerous studies from different international groups have demonstrated that sensations can be propagated along acupuncture channel *** propagated sensation along the channel pathway(PSCP)can be elicited by electroacupuncture(EA),transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation(TENS),manual acupuncture(ma),and heat applied to distal acupuncture points(acupoints).Nitric oxide(NO)levels were reported to be elevated in the gracile nucleus and skin regions near to the EA sites,with higher levels at acupoints associated with an enhanced expression of NO synthase and transient receptor potential vanilloid type *** stimuli,EA,ma,TENS,and heat,have been used to elicit axonal reflexes,which increase local release of NO and neuropeptides such as calcitonin gene related ***,the sensation of PSCP along the body surface occurs only ipsilaterally to the stimulated acupoints in various human studies,which does not support the involvement of the spinal-thalamic pathway,which would involve cross over transmission of the *** gracile nucleus receives ascending input from the sciatic nerve and responds to soma.osensory stimulation mainly on the ipsilateral side via the dorsal column *** at Zusanli(ST36)increases NO release and expression of NO synthase mainly in the ipsilateral side of the gracile nucleus,while the cardiovascular effects and analgesic responses to EA at ST36 are changed by influences of l-arginine-derived NO synthesis in the ipsilateral gracile nucleus in *** stimuli-induced release of NOergic molecules and neuropeptides exist high levels in the acupoints,which contain rich neuronal components and blood *** NOergic molecules at acupoints cause axon reflexes during the stimuli,which elevate cutaneous blood *** NOergic molecules and local blood flow may spread over acupoints one after another along the meridian lines differing from nerve pathways following the stimuli to induce *** same types of stimula

We present an eight component integrable Hamiltonian hierarchy, based on a reduced seventh order matrix spectral problem, with the aim of aiding the study and classification of multicomponent integrable models and their underlying mathematical structures. The zero-curvature formulation is the tool to construct a recursion operator from the spatial matrix problem. The second and third set of integrable equations present integrable nonlinear Schrödinger and modified Korteweg-de Vries type equations, respectively. The trace identity is used to construct Hamiltonian structures, and the first three Hamiltonian functionals so generated are computed.

Environmental Occurrence of Selenium in Waters and Related Health Significance

Appreciable amounts of selenium in spring and well waters can be found due to geological occurrence. Concentrations of as much as 400 9000 μg/l have been reported in U. S. *** levels are 8 to 180 times the current EPA drinking water standard and approximate dietary exposures of 4900μg in selenosis regions of China. Reviews of health significance of the elevated drinking water exposures to U. S. populations revealed elevated concentrations of selenium in urine and blood. A decrease in glutathione peroxidase activity in such instances was noted. However noticeable symptoms and signs seem absent in studies reviewed. A comparison of intake levels (diet or drinking water) to urinary excretion for residents of China and the U. S. produced a correlation coefficient, r = 0. 82 (P < 0. 01 ) for the three research studies available

The posterior gut of the Drosophila embryo, consisting of hindgut and malpighian tubules, provides a simple,well-defined system where it is possible to use a genetic approach to define components essential for epithelial *** review here the advantages of Drosophila as a model genetic organism, the morphogenesis of the epithelial structures of the posterior gut, and what is known about the genetic requirements to form these *** overview, primordia are patterned by expression of hierarchies of transcription factors; this leads to localized expression of cell signaling molecules, and finally, to the least understood step: modulation of cell adhesion and cell shape. We describe approaches to identify additional genes that are required for morphogenesis of these simple epithelia, particularly those that might play a structural role by affecting cell adhesion and cell shape.

This paper studies a class of forward-backward stochastic differential equations (FBSde)in a general markovian *** forward Sde represents a large class of strong markov semimartingales,and the backward generator requires only mild regularity *** authors showthat the Four Step Scheme introduced by ma,et al.(1994) is still effective in this ***,the authors show that the adapted solution of the FBSde exists and is unique over any prescribedtime duration;and the backward components can be determined explicitly by the forward componentvia the classical solution to a system of parabolic integro-partial differential *** importantconsequence the authors would like to draw from this fact is that,contrary to the general belief,in amarkovian set-up the martingale representation theorem is no longer the reason for the well-posednessof the FBSde,but rather a consequence of the existence of the solution of the decoupling integralpartialdifferential ***,the authors briefly discuss the possibility of reducing the regularityrequirements of the coefficients by using a scheme proposed by *** (2002) to the current case.

Microstructure and Mechanical Behaviour of Proton-and Ion-irradiated Ll_2 Intermetallic Compounds

The results of mechanical testing and transmission electron microscopy on the ordered intermetallic Ll2 compounds1Zr3Al, Ni3Al, Ni3Si and Ni3Ge after irradiation with protons or heavy ions at high or low tem peratu re are presented and discussed. Using a minjaturjzed disk-bend test. it was found that proton irradiation of Zr3Al. Ni3Al and Ni3Si raises their yield strength :a single test of Ni3Ge shows no effect on the fracture stress of this brittle intermetallic The Vickers microhardness of all four alloys is raised by proton irradiation. The irradiations cause all the alloys to disorder. the extent of which is dependent on irradiation temperature Microstructural defects are produced by the irradiations Some exhibit strain-field contrast under dynamic two-beam diffracting conditions. Other distinct defect clusters are imaged only in dark-field using su perlattice reflections, These latter defects are discussed in the context of current arnorphization models. The strength increase of Zr3Al, Ni3Al and Ni3Si is attributed to a combination of disordering and strengthening from defects. The lack of an effect of irradiation on the fracture stress of Ni3Ge. in which voids were observed, requires further experiments
