The new content and power capability of a battery depend critically on the chemical nature as well as the structure of the active materials. In this paper, criteria for the choice of active materials in consumer batteries are presented. Two equally valid ,but conceptually very different approaches, to the development of new/improved battery active materials are discussed. One approach is to utilize the "Desig. of experiments" method to determine an optimal process for synthesizing.materials of dersired properties;the second approach is to desig./modify materials based on a thoroug. scientific understanding.of the chemistry and structure aspects of materials. Practical examples will be g.ven to illustrate these two methods.

AIM:To compare the results from computed tomog.aphy (CT) colonog.aphy with conventional colonoscopy in symptomatic patients referred for colonoscopy. METHODS: The study included 227 adult outpatients, mean ag. 60 years, with appropriate indications for colonoscopy. CT colonog.aphy and colonoscopy were performed on the same day in a metropolitan teaching.hospital. Colonoscopists were initially blinded to the results of CT colonog.aphy but there was seg.ental unblinding.during.the procedure. The primary outcome measures were the sensitivity and specificity of CT colonog.aphy for the identification of polyps seen at colonoscopy (i.e. analysis by polyp). Secondary outcome measures included an analysis by patient, extracolonic finding. at CT colonog.aphy, adverse events with both procedures and patient acceptance and preference. RESULTS: Twenty-five patients (11%) were excluded from the analysis because of incomplete colonoscopy or poor bowel preparation that affected either CT colonog.aphy, colonoscopy or both procedures. Polyps and masses (usually cancers) were detected at colonoscopy and CT colonog.aphy in 35% and 42% of patients, respectively. Of nine patients with a finaldiag.osis of cancer, eig.t (89%) were identified by CT colonog.aphy as masses (5) or polyps (3). For polyps analyzed according.to polyp, the overall sensitivity of CT colonog.aphy was 50% (95% CI, 39%-61%) but this increased to 71% (95% CI, 52%-85%) for polyps ≥ 6 mm in size. Similarly, specificity for all polyps was 48% (95% CI, 39%-58%) increasing.to 67% (95% CI, 56%-76%) for polyps ≥ 6 mm. Adverse events were uncommon but included one colonic perforation at colonoscopy. Patient acceptance was hig. for both procedures but preference favoured CT colonog.aphy. CONCLUSION: Althoug. CT colonog.aphy was more sensitive in this study than in some previous studies, the procedure is not yet sensitive enoug. for widespread application in symptomatic patients.

Objective In the last years,robotic surg.ry was introduced in several different setting. with g.od perioperative ***,its role in the manag.ment of adrenal masses is still *** order to provide a contribution to this field,we described our step-by-step technique for robotic adrenalectomy(RA)and related modifications according.to the type of adrenal mass *** We retrospectively analyzed 27 consecutive patients who underwent RA at Onze-Lieve-Vrouw hospital(Aalst,Belg.um)between January 2009 and October ***,intra-and post-operative,and patholog.cal data were retrieved from our prospectively maintained institutional *** variables are summarized as median and interquartile rang.(IQR).Categ.rical variables are reported as frequencies(percentag.s).Results Twenty-seven patients underwent RA were included in the *** ag.,body mass index,and Charlson's comorbidity index were 61(IQR:49-71)years,26(IQR:24-29)kg.m^(2),and 2(IQR:0-3),respectively,and 16(59.3%)patients were *** tumor size at computed tomog.aphy scan was 6.0(IQR:3.5-8.0)*** operative time and blood loss were 105(IQR:82-120)min and 175(IQR:94-250)mL,*** intraoperative complications were *** postoperative complications rate was 11.1%,with a postoperative transfusion rate of 3.7%.A total of 10(37.0%)patients harbored malig.ant adrenal *** them,3(11.1%)had adrenocortical carcinoma,6(22.2%)secondary metastasis,and 1(3.7%)malig.ant pheochromocytoma on final patholog.cal *** 1(10.0%)patient had positive surg.cal *** We described our step-by-step technique for RA,which can be safely performed even in case of hig. challeng.ng.setting. as malig.ant tumors,pheochromocytoma,and larg. *** standardization of perioperative protocol should be encourag.d to maximize the outcomes of this complex surg.cal procedure.

In this White Paper we present the potential of the enhanced X-ray Timing.and Polarimetry(eXTP) mission for studies related to Observatory Science targ.ts. These include flaring.stars, supernova remnants, accreting.white dwarfs, low and hig. mass X-ray binaries, radio quiet and radio loud active g.lactic nuclei, tidal disruption events, and g.mma-ray bursts. eXTP will be excellently suited to study one common aspect of these objects: their often transient nature. Developed by an international Consortium led by the Institute of Hig. Energ. Physics of the Chinese Academy of Science, the eXTP mission is expected to be launched in the mid 2020s.
