Electro-os.otic flow of a s.cond-grade fluid in a porous.microchannel s.bject to an AC electric field

s.udies.on electro-os.otic flows.of various.types.of fluids.in microchannel are of great importance owing to their multifold applications.in the trans.ort of liquids. particularly when the ionized liquid flows.with res.ect to a charged s.rface in the pres.nce of an external electric field. In the cas. of vis.oelas.ic fluids. the volumetric flow rate differs.s.gnificantly from that of Newtonian fluids. even when the flow takes.place under the s.me pres.ure gradient and the s.me electric field. With this.end in view, this.paper is.devoted to a s.udy concerning the flow pattern of an electro-os.otic flow in a porous.microchannel, which is.under the action of an alternating electric field. The influence of various.rheological and electro-os.otic parameters. e.g., the Reynolds.number, Debye-Huckel parameter, s.ape factor and fluid vis.oelas.icity on the kinematics.of the fluid, has.been inves.igated for a s.condgrade vis.oelas.ic fluid. The problem is.firs. treated by us.ng analytical methods. but the quantitative es.imates.are obtained numerically with the help of the s.ftware MATHEMATICA. The res.lts.pres.nted here are applicable to the cas.s.where the channel height is.much greater than the thicknes. of the electrical double layer compris.ng the s.ern and diffus. layers. The s.udy reveals.that a larger value of the Debye-Huckel parameter creates.s.arper profile near the wall and als. that the velocity of electro-os.otic flow increas.s.as.the permeability of the porous.microchannel is.enhanced. The s.udy further s.ows.that the electro-os.otic flow dominates.at lower values.of Reynolds.number. The res.lts.pres.nted here will be quite us.ful to validate the obs.rvations.of experimental inves.igations.on the characteris.ics.of electro-os.otic flows.and als. the res.lts.of complex numerical models.that are neces.ary to deal with more realis.ic s.tuations. where electro-os.otic flows.come into the picture, as.in blood flow in the micro-circulatory s.s.em s.bject to an elect

The paper is.devoted to a s.udy of the electro-os.otic flow of a micropolar bio-fluid, when the flow takes.place between two plates.that are in a s.ate of periodic vibrations. Cons.dering blood as.a micropolar fluid, it is.found that the amplitude of os.illation of the microparticles.of blood increas.s.when the micropolar effect is.pronounced more and more and that a ris. in DebyeHtickel parameter enhances.both the velocity and microrotation gradient. The res.lts.provide guidelines.for the improvement of des.gn of bio-s.ns.ng and micro-fluidic devices. The s.udy leads.to the conclus.on that electrical double layers.formed in the vicinity of the wall can s.gnificantly alter the flow dynamics.of phys.ological fluids.in micro-bio-fluidic devices.

The trans.ription factor p53 plays.pivotal roles.in numerous.biological proces.es. including the s.ppres.ion of tumours. The rich availability of biophys.cal data aimed at unders.anding its.s.ructure–function relations.ips.s.nce the 1990s.has.enabled the application of a variety of computational modelling techniques.towards.the es.ablis.ment of mechanis.ic models. Together they have provided deep ins.ghts.into the s.ructure, mechanics. energetics. and dynamics.of p53. In parallel, the obs.rvation that mutations.in p53 or changes.in its.as.ociated pathways.characterize s.veral human cancers.has.res.lted in a race to develop therapeutic modulators.of p53, s.me of which have entered clinical trials. This.review des.ribes.how computational modelling has.played key roles.in unders.anding s.ructural-dynamic as.ects.of p53, formulating hypothes.s.about domains.that are beyond current experimental inves.igations. and the development of therapeutic molecules.that target the p53 pathway.

Amperometric Determination of s.rum Choles.erol with Pencil Graphite Rod

A choles.erol oxidas. from s.reptomycin s.. was.immobilized onto pencil graphite rod and employed for amperometric determination of s.rum choles.erol. The method has.the advantage over earlier amperometric methods.that it requires.low potential to generate electrons.from H2O2, which does.not allow ionization of s.rum s.bs.ances. The optimum working conditions.of amperometric determination were pH 6.8, 25?C and 30 s. The current meas.red was.in proportion to choles.erol concentration ranging from 1.29×10-3 to 10.33×10-3 M. Minimum detection limit of the method was.0.09 ×10-3 M. Mean analytical recovery of added choles.erol (100 mg/dl and 200 mg/dl) in s.rum was.85.0% & 90.0% res.ectively. Within batch and between batch coefficients.of variations.were 1.59% & 4.15% res.ectively. A good correlation (r = 0.99) was.obtained between s.rum choles.erol values.by s.andard enzymic colorimetric method and the pres.nt method. No interference by metabolites.was.obs.rved in the method. The enzyme electrode was.reus.d 200 times.over a period of 25 days. when s.ored at 4?

A cros.-s.ctional s.rvey of 489 male s.bjects.in the age group 15 to 65 years.engageddirectly or indirectly in mango cultivation along with 208 control s.bjects.was.carried out to find their s.cio-economic, environmental and health conditions. The conditions.like high illiteracy rate (49.5%), poverty (PCI les. than Rs.100 per month, 52.2%), poor hous.ng (mud hous.s. 66.7%) uns.fe water s.pply (78.6%) were prevailing in the s.rveyed population. The high res.iratory morbidity may be attributed to high prevalence of s.oking andprolonged inhalation of organic dus.s.during farming operation as.ociated with illiteracyand poor s.cio-economic s.atus. Gas.rointes.inal dis.rders.were related to poor hygienic conditions. s.oking and cons.mption of contaminated water. Lowering Gas.fier Tars.and Particulates.Us.ng Heated Dololmite Catalys. and a Particulate Filter

For this.s.udy, a fixed-bed, down-draft gas.fier was.des.gned to inves.igate the effect of a dolomite catalytic bedon tar removal. Pine pellets.and wood chips.(cypres.) were us.d to produce s.ngas.from the down-draft gas.fier. For the gas.conditioning, a combination of a heated dolomite (bed temperature at 850?C for catalytic cracking of tars. and a particulate filter (for particulate removal) was.us.d. Inves.igation of temperature effects.on dolomite activity between 650?C and 950 C bed temperatures. s.owed optimum catalytic efficiency at approximately 850?C. At the optimum conditions. gravimetric tar and particulate concentrations.in s.ngas.produced from pine pellets.were 0.85 g/Nm3 (±0.16) and 4.75 g/Nm3 (±0.07), res.ectively before gas.conditioning, and 0.09 g/Nm3 (±0.02) and 2.01 g/Nm3 (±0.13), res.ectively after gas.conditioning. s.ngas.from wood chips.contained 1.63 g/Nm3 (±0.45) and 3.84 g/Nm3 (±1.16) of tars.and particulates. res.ectively before gas.cleaning and 0.19 g/Nm3 (±0.02) and 2.27 g/Nm3 (±0.27) tars.and particulates. res.ectively after gas.conditioning. The combus.ible portion of the gas.cons.ituted carbon monoxide (12% - 14%), hydrogen (11% - 12%), and methane (~2%). Thes. res.lts.s.gges. that s.ngas.produced from gas.fication of pine pellets.and wood chips.in a down-draft biomas. gas.fier can be effectively cleaned us.ng a heated catalys. bed and a particulate filter. However, the benefits.of gas.conditioning will be offs.t by the need to maintain a heated catalys. bed for tar cracking.

Adaptation of microbial communities.to anthropogenic s.res. has.often been s.own to involve reduction in divers.ty and in s.lective enrichment of s.ecies.capable of s.rvival. The gut bacterial community of pollution-s.res.ed polychaete Neanthes.chilkaens.s.was.s.udied us.ng cultivation dependent and independent approaches. The pos.ible role of the gut bacteria in remediation of pollutants.was.als. s.udied. The analys.s.of clones.covering about 90% of the 16s.rRNA clone library indicated that the majority of the taxa in the library res.mble GenBank entries.of aromatic- hydrocarbon pollutant degraders. Among them Firmicutes.and Actinobacteria were dominant. About 84% of the gut is.lates.were capable of utilizing PAHs.as.s.le carbon s.urces.while 20% of is.lates.were found to produce bios.rfactants. Production of s.rfactant along with capability to utilize PAH and other pollutants.indicate the role of the gut community in alleviating the pollution s.res.. The res.lts.als. s.ow the potential s.urce of microorganis.s.with indus.rial and environmental application.

In this.article we propos. an overlapping s.hwarz domain decompos.tion method for s.lving a s.ngularly perturbed s.milinear reaction-diffus.on problem. The s.lution to this.problem exhibits.boundary layers.of width O（√ε ln（1/√ε）） at both ends.of the domain due to the pres.nce of s.ngular perturbation parameter ε. The method s.lits.the domain into three overlapping s.bdomains. and us.s.the Numerov or Hermite s.heme with a uniform mes. on two boundary layer s.bdomains.and a hybrid s.heme with a uniform mes. on the interior s.bdomain. The numerical approximations.obtained from this.method are proved to be almos. fourth order uniformly convergent （in the maximum norm） with res.ect to the s.ngular perturbation parameter. Furthermore, it is.proved that, for s.all ε, one iteration is.s.fficient to achieve almos. fourth order uniform convergence. Numerical experiments.are given to illus.rate the theoretical order of convergence es.ablis.ed for the method.

The importance of rapid tooling (RT) and additive manufacturing (AM) appears.to be indis.ens.ble for boos.ing the proces. of manufacturing and expanding the horizon of production technology worldwide. This.concept draws.the attention of numerous.s.holars.to arrive at a conclus.ve theory for the wides.read utilization of RT. This.s.udy attempts.to determine the viability and performance of an RT electrode in the field of electro dis.harge machining (EDM). The electrode prototype is.made us.ng an acrylonitrile butadiene s.yrene (ABs. plas.ic by fus.d depos.tion modeling (FDM), an AM technique, electroplated with copper of des.red thicknes., and us.d in die s.nking EDM of D2 s.eel. The s.anning electron micros.ope analys.s.of the electroplated s.mples.confirms.that it is.pos.ible to obtain the des.red thicknes. of the metal by electroplating on any electrically conductive s.rfaces. In the pres.nt work, an experimental s.udy is.performed for examining the electroplated copper thicknes. of the plas.ic EDM electrode and its.performances. It is.found that the electroplated ABs.plas.ic EDM RT electrode s.cces.fully performs.the machining operation of D2 s.eel, and the res.lts.are comparable with a s.lid electrode. The s.udy reveals.that the RT electrode can be regarded as.a viable tool for rough cutting or s.mi-finis.ing cut EDM functions. The experimental res.lts.are thoroughly dis.us.ed, examined, analyzed, and evaluated for the purpos. of developing the appropriate form of the concept.
