“Human-elephant conflict(HEC)”,the alarming issue,in present day context has attracted the attention of environmentalists and policy *** rising conflict between human beings and wild elephants is common in Buxa Tiger Reserve(BTR)and its adjoining area in West Bengal State,India,making the area ***’s attitudes towards elephant conservation activity are very crucial to get rid of HEC,because people’s proximity with wild elephants’habitat can trigger the occurrence of *** aim of this study is to conduct an in-depth investigation about the association of people’s attitudes towards HEC with their locational,demographic,and socio-economic characteristics in BTR and its adjoining area by using Pearson’s bivariate chi-square test and binary logistic regression *** is one of the constituent parts of Eastern Doors Elephant Reserve(EDER).We interviewed 500 respondents to understand their perceptions to HEC and investigated their locational,demographic,and socio-economic characteristics including location of village,gender,age,ethnicity,religion,caste,poverty level,education level,primary occupation,secondary occupation,household type,and source of *** results indicate that respondents who are living in enclave forest villages(EFVs),peripheral forest villages(PFVs),corridor village(CVs),or forest and corridor villages(FCVs),mainly males,at the age of 18–48 years old,engaged with agriculture occupation,and living in kancha and mixed houses,have more likelihood to witness ***,respondents who are illiterate or at primary education level are more likely to regard elephant as a main problematic animal around their villages and refuse to participate in elephant conservation *** the sake of a sustainable environment for both human beings and wildlife,people’s attitudes towards elephants must be friendly in a more prudent way,so that the two communities can live in harmony.

Context: Antiretroviral therapy (ART) helps restore the health status of people living with HIV (PLHIV). Likewise, it increases the risk of overweight/obesity and related comorbidities among the recipients. In countries like Botswana where ±84% of PLHIV is on ART, the paucity of data comparing overweight/obesity between HIV-positive on ART and HIV-negative patients may impede clinical and policy decision-making. This study sought to estimate and compare: i) the prevalence of overweight/obesity between HIV-positive on ART and HIV-negative patients;ii) the prevalence of hypertension (HTN), diabetes mellitus (DM)/coronary heart disease (CHD) between HIV-positive patients on ART and HIV-negative patients attending same outpatient departments of general clinics in Gaborone, Botswana. Patients and Methods: Five hundred eighty-one (581) outpatients were recruited in four major clinics of Gaborone, Botswana, between June and July 2019;294 or 51% of them were HIV-negative and 287 or 49% were HIV-positive on ART. The prevalence of overweight/obesity and of HTN and DM/CHD were calculated and examined using stratified analysis. Subgroups were compared using chi-square analysis with Yates correction or Fisher exact test and t-student test for continuous data. Results: Major findings after stratification of the study population by HIV status were: i) the prevalence of all categories of (BMI), including overweight/obesity, were comparable between HIV-negative-patients and HIV-positive. In fact, there were 24 (8.0%) cases of underweight among HIV-negative-Patients and 15(5%) cases among HIV-positive patients, p = 0.2;145 (49%) HIV-negative-patients and 128 (45%) HIV-positive, p = 0.07 cases of normal weight;72 (25%) HIV-negative-patients and 87 (30%) HIV-positive, p = 0.08, were overweight;53 (18%) HIV-negative-patients and 57 (20%) HIV-positive, p = 0.12, were obese;125 (43%) HIV-negative patients and 144 (50%) HIV-positive, p=0.06 were overweight/obese;ii) the prevalence of HTN a

Comparative Analysis of Fatal Pedestrian Crashes between Kansas and USA

Due to the increasing trend of population growth and urbanization, pedestrians form one of the largest single road user groups. However, they are the most neglected group among all road users. Pedestrian safety is now a growing concern in the USA. Identifying the factors associated with fatal pedestrian crashes plays a key role in developing efficient and effective strategies to enhance pedestrian safety. This study addresses safety issues by identifying contributory factors associated with fatal pedestrian crashes in Kansas and the USA. For Kansas, the study uses KARS (Kansas Accident Reporting System) database while for the USA FARS (Fatality Analysis Reporting System) database has been used. Different variables considered in this study are human variables (age, and gender), environmental variables (atmospheric condition and light condition), time (time of day, day of week, and crash month), location (intersection vs. mid-block), and roadway variables (speed limit). Different factors that are found to have an association with fatal pedestrian crashes are male pedestrians, older pedestrians, weekend, off peak hours, winter months, dark hours, non-intersection, clear atmospheric conditions, higher speed limit. The findings from Kansas have been compared with that from the USA. This study helps to implement potential countermeasures by identifying the factors that have an association with fatal pedestrian crashes.

The Benefits and Barriers Related to Regular Participation in Physical Activity by African-American Women: Implications for Intervention Development

Photodynamic therapy（PDT） has emerged as a clinical modality for treatment of certain localized and superficial cancers [1].It requires a photosensitive drug,light of specific wavelength,and molecular oxygen to induce a series of photochemical reactions,leading to the formation of cytotoxic reactive oxygen species（ROS）.These ROS destroy tumors by multifactorial mechanisms,including killing malignant cells by apoptosis and/or necrosis,shutting down the tumor vasculature,and stimulating the host immune system [2].With a view to improving the therapeutic outcome,various strategies have been explored to enhance the ROS generation efficiency and tumor selectivity of the *** address the latter aspect,conjugation to tumor-specific vehicles [3] and encapsulation in colloidal nanocarriers [4] are two common ***,"smart" photosensitizing systems that can be activated by tumor-associated stimuli have received considerable attention [5],which can overcome the drawback of nonspecific photodamage in *** this presentation,we will showcase our endeavor along these strategies in advancing phthalocyanine-based theranostic agents for cancer imaging and *** molecular design,synthesis,photophysical properties,as well as in vitro and in vivo biological response of these systems will be reported and discussed.

A common strategy for improving health behaviors is to emphasize the benefits and reduce the barriers to behavior change. This study investigated potential differences in perceived benefits and barriers related to participation in physical activity (PA) between women in pre-maintenance versus the maintenance phase of PA behavior to determine if perceived benefits were greater and perceived barriers lower in women with more extensive and successful PA participation experience. Data were collected from a community-based sample (N = 113) of middle-aged African-American women. The sample was stratified into two groups according to how long they had been regularly engaging in PA (6 months or longer versus less than 6 months). chi-square analyses were conducted to investigate possible differences between the two groups of women in regard to perceived benefits and barriers associated with PA. Descriptive data showed that nearly all of the benefits and barriers to PA were perceived as being important for a majority of the participants and chi-square and t-test results indicated few significant between-group differences (p < .05) in regard to these perceptions. Additional analyses indicated there was no significant between-group difference (p < .05) for Body Mass Index. The results suggest the benefits and barriers related to PA behavior are already valued and understood by many African-American women. Further, the results do not support the commonly held belief that effective health behavior improvement programming should emphasize the benefits and reduce the barriers related to the behavior. Practitioners should consider focusing on other evidenced based factors proven to promote PA behavior such as counseling regarding social support (e.g., buddy system) and increasing self-efficacy (e.g., goal setting) to initiate and sustain a physically active lifestyle.

Alzheimer’s disease(AD)is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by the predominant impairment of neurons in the hippocampus and the formation of amyloid plaques,hyperphosphorylated tau protein,and neurofibrillary tangles in the *** overexpression of amyloid-βprecursor protein(APP)in an AD brain results in the binding of APP intracellular domain(AICD)to Fe65 protein via the C-terminal Fe65-PTB2 interaction,which then triggers the secretion of amyloid-βand the consequent pathogenesis of ***,targeting the interaction between APP and Fe65 can offer a promising therapeutic approach for ***,exosome,a type of extracellular vesicle with diameter around 30–200 nm,has gained much attention as a potential delivery tool for brain diseases,including AD,due to their ability to cross the blood–brain barrier,their efficient uptake by autologous cells,and their ability to be surface-modified with target-specific receptor ***,the engineering of hippocampus neuron cell-derived exosomes to overexpress Fe65,enabled the development of a novel exosome-based targeted drug delivery system,which carried Corynoxine-B(Cory-B,an autophagy inducer)to the APP overexpressed-neuron cells in the brain of AD *** Fe65-engineered HT22 hippocampus neuron cell-derived exosomes(Fe65-EXO)loaded with Cory-B(Fe65-EXO-Cory-B)hijacked the signaling and blocked the natural interaction between Fe65 and APP,enabling APP-targeted delivery of ***,Fe65-EXO-Cory-B induced autophagy in APP-expressing neuronal cells,leading to amelioration of the cognitive decline and pathogenesis in AD mice,demonstrating the potential of Fe65-EXO-Cory-B as an effective therapeutic intervention for AD.
