Sepsis and the blood-brain barrier(BBB):Sepsis is a life threatening systemic inflammatory condition involving multi-organ *** World Health Organization estimates that about 30 million people are affected by sepsis every year,and at least 6 million people die from sepsis each *** of approximately 24 million sepsis survivors,it is estimated that 70%of these individuals will experience some form of long-term neurological impairment(Iwashyna et al.,2010).Thus,when c.mbined with prevention,diagnosis,and therapeutic.management strategies,a functional understanding of the mechanisms that promote sepsis-associated neurological impairment is necessary to address the clinical challenges and economic burdens faced when treating sepsis.

Traumatic brain injury, chronic traumatic encephalopathy, and Alzheimer's disease are three distinct neurological disorders that share c.mmon pathophysiological mechanisms involving neuroinflammation. One sequela of neuroinflammation includes the pathologic hyperphosphorylation of tau protein, an endogenous microtubule-associated protein that protects the integrity of neuronal cytoskeletons. Tau hyperphosphorylation results in protein misfolding and subsequent acc.mulation of tau tangles forming neurotoxic aggregates. These misfolded proteins are characteristic of traumatic brain injury, chronic traumatic encephalopathy, and Alzheimer's disease and can lead to downstream neuroinflammatory processes, including assembly and activation of the inflammasome c.mplex. Inflammasomes refer to a family of multimeric protein units that, upon activation, release a cascade of signaling molecules resulting in caspase-induced cell death and inflammation mediated by the release of interleukin-1β cytokine. One specific inflammasome, the NOD-like receptor protein 3, has been proposed to be a key regulator of tau phosphorylation where it has been shown that prolonged NOD-like receptor protein 3 activation acts as a causal factor in pathological tau acc.mulation and spreading. This review begins by describing the epidemiology and pathophysiology of traumatic brain injury, chronic traumatic encephalopathy, and Alzheimer's disease. Next, we highlight neuroinflammation as an overriding theme and discuss the role of the NOD-like receptor protein 3 inflammasome in the formation of tau deposits and how such tauopathic entities spread throughout the brain. We then propose a novel framework linking traumatic brain injury, chronic traumatic encephalopathy, and Alzheimer's disease as inflammasomedependent pathologies that exist along a temporal continuum. Finally, we discuss potential therapeutic targets that may intercept this pathway and ultimately minimize long-term neurological decline.

The current healthcare system in Hong Kong is experiencing pressure due to constrained resources,with dramatic increases in inpatient services queue lengths,dissatisfaction with the working environment,unacceptable workforce arrangements and high turnover rate of hospital *** maintain the robustness of the healthcare system and a sustainable inpatients flow,the Food and Health Bureau launched a public-private partnership programme to utilise the resources of the public and private *** research investigates the potential for extension of the programme and further enhancing the sustainability of the long-term inpatient services under a mixed public-private healthcare policy via system dynamic *** findings show that an increase of human resources in public hospitals does not substantially improve inpatient flow rate ***,the results from the system dynamic approach provide insights into the expansion of the service areas of the programme and suggest increasing the number of referrals to private hospitals.

We generalize several well known quantum equations to a Tsallis’ q-scenario, and provide a quantum version of some classical fields associated with them in the recent literature. We refer to the q-Schro¨dinger, q-KleinGordon, q-Dirac, and q-Proca equations advanced in, respectively, Phys. Rev. Lett. 106, 140601(2011), EPL 118,61004(2017) and references therein. We also introduce here equations corresponding to q-Yang-mills fields, both in the Abelian and non-Abelian instances. We show how to define the q-quantum field theories corresponding to the above equations, introduce the pertinent actions, and obtain equations of motion via the minimum action *** q-fields are meaningful at very high energies(Te V scale) for q = 1.15, high energies(Ge V scale) for q = 1.001,and low energies(me V scale) for q =1.000001 [Nucl. Phys. A 955(2016) 16 and references therein].(See the ALIcE experiment at the LHc). Surprisingly enough, these q-fields are simultaneously q-exponential functions of the usual linear fields’ logarithms.

Electropulsing-induced phase dec.mpositions and microstructural changes in AZO-5 thin films were studied by X-raydiffraction, scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, Hall effect measurement and photoluminescence （PL）measurement techniques. It was found that the electropulsing induced phase dec.mposition started with spinodaldec.mposition, which was acc.mpanied by discontinuous precipitation in the AZO-5 thin films. Both circular phasedec.mpositions and the crystal orientation occurred. Inappropriate electropulsing might damage zones, which resulted intremendous decrease in electrical conductivity. circular changes in both the peak position and the width of the PLwavelength were observed in the EPT AZO-5 thin films. Formation of zones favored reducing the roughness of the thinfilm.

The immunology of pregnancy is c.mplex and inc.mpletely understood. Aberrant immune activity in the decidua and in the placenta is believed to play a role in diseases of pregnancy, such as infertility, miscarriage, fetal growth restriction and preeclampsia. Here, we briefly review the endocrine control of uterine natural killer cell populations and their functions by the peptide hormone adrenomedullin. Studies in genetic animal models have revealed the critical importance of adrenomedullin dosage at the maternal-fetal interface, with cells from both the maternal and fetal c.mpartments contributing to essential aspects underlying appropriate uterine receptivity, implantation and vascular remodeling of spiral arteries. These basic insights into the crosstalk between the endocrine and immune systems within the maternal- fetal interface may ultimately translate to a better understanding of the functions and consequences of dysregulated adrenomedullin levels in clinically c.mplicated pregnancies.

This paper proposes an antenna design concept to achieve a multi-reconfigurable band-notch antenna by using a set of microswitches. The proposed idea was proved by the design of the coplanar waveguide(cPW)-fed slot antenna. The sample design gives a wideband antenna the impedance bandwidth of which covers the frequency ranged from 1.9 GHz to 6.55 *** antenna could be configured to work either in single-band mode or in one of the defined dual-band modes.

chiral honeyc.mb structures have been developed in recent years, showing excellent mechanical properties, including in-plane deformation and out-of-plane bearing and vibration isolation. In this study, the 65mn chiral structure with three ligaments was modeled and analyzed using the finite element (FE) method. The effects of the dimensionless ligament length and dimensionless ligament thickness on the in-plane equivalent elastic.modulus, equivalent Poisson's ratio, and out-of-plane shear modulus were studied. The numerical results indicate that increase of the dimensionless ligament length leads to decrease of the equivalent elastic.modulus and increase of the equivalePoisson's ratio, whereas the out-of-plane equivalent shear modulus decreases. The results also indicate that increase of the dimensionless ligament thickness leads to in crease of the equivalent elastic.modulus, whereas the equivalent Poisson's ratio remains nearly unchanged and the out-of-plane equivalent shear modulus shows a linear in crease. The numerical results are verified by c.mparis on with published experime ntal data. These results will provide a reference for the application of chiral structures with three ligaments in the aerospace field.
