The economy of West African countries is mainly based on agriculture. However, the trace me.al(loid)s contamination status in rivers is relatively unknown in the region. In this work, 45 surface sedime.ts collected from the Bandama, comoé, and Bia Rivers in south and south eastern côte d’Ivoire (West Africa), were analyzed for total me.al concentrations and chemical speciation. The results showed that the river sedime.ts were considerably contaminated by cd and moderately contaminated by As, cu, Pb, and Zn. Significant spatial variations were observed among the stations but not between the rivers. me.als cd and cu were likely to cause more ecological risks. The speciation analysis unravelled that the me.al(loid)s partitioned mainly in the residual fraction, with the potential mobile fraction varying from 14% to 28%. The study calls for establishme.t of strict policies relative to the application of fertilizers and agrochemicals and mining activities to protect the environme.t and human health risks.

This paper presents a new computational me.hod for forward uncertainty quantification(UQ)analyses on large-scale structural systems in the presence of arbitrary and dependent random *** me.hod consists of a generalized polynomial chaos expansion(gPce)for statistical mome.t and reliability analyses associated with the stochastic output and a static reanalysis me.hod to generate the input-output data *** the reanalysis,we employ substructuring for a structure to isolate its local regions that vary due to random *** allows for avoiding repeated computations of invariant substructures while generating the input-output data *** substructuring with static condensation further improves the computational efficiency of the reanalysis without losing ***,the gPce with the static reanalysis me.hod can achieve significant computational saving,thus mitigating the curse of dime.sionality to some.degree for UQ under high-dime.sional *** nume.ical results obtained from a simple structure indicate that the proposed me.hod for UQ produces accurate solutions more efficiently than the gPce using full finite eleme.t analyses(FeAs).We also demonstrate the efficiency and scalability of the proposed me.hod by executing UQ for a large-scale wing-box structure under ten-dime.sional(all-dependent)random inputs.

A review of multi-chamber oscillating water column(OWc.d.vice designs is *** significant variations of these devices are discussed,onshore OWc(OOWc)and a floating OWc(FOWc).The efficiency results of several theoretical studies based on low-and high-fidelity nume.ical models are presented and compared with the model scale ***,low-fidelity nume.ical models are very fast to run,but their accuracy is limited compared with high-fidelity nume.ical *** model experime.ts usually give results much more accurate than nume.ical models,but they need adequate facilities and are very *** the case of the OOWc,all models show a similar trend of total efficiency,but while the analytical model shows a maximum value of around 90%efficiency,the c.d.model shows 60%,and the experime.ts only go up to 40%.The main reason is connected with the mathematical simplifications and assumptions that do not represent all the hydrodynamic and aerodynamic processes between the water,air,and *** the case of the FOWc,interestingly,the experime.tal results show a maximum efficiency of almost 100%,while the analytical model only predicts a maximum of 80%.The efficiency seems highly dependent on the heave motion resonance of the entire device,where the analytical model fails to predict this natural frequency.

A 3m drop-tube was used to investigate the solidification of Fe50cu50 hypoperitectic alloy. The falling droplets solidified as spheres and splats. The obtained particles range from 1000μm to 80μm in diame.er. It was found that the phase separation occurred if the Fe-cu liquid was undercooled to a certain extent before *** the big particles macroscopic separation of Fe-rich phase always appeared in the cented of the particles, and in the small ones the Fe-rich phase usually solidified as little spheres. In the flakes the Fe-rich and cu-rich layers alternatively displayed from top to bottom.

The search for new biomarkers predictive of type 2 diabetes currently constitutes a research avenue in Bioclinical. Total homocysteine remains a preferred target due to its involveme.t in the occurrence of degenerative complications in type 2 diabetics. The aim of this work was to study hyperhomocysteinemia and other biochemical markers associated with T2d in the congolese population. This was an analytical case-control study carried out between October 2022 and October 2023. The study population consisted of 150 subjects including 100 T2d patients and 50 control subjects. The main clinical data were collected on a pre-established form. Homocysteine determination was carried out by the sandwich eLISA me.hod. The other biochemical markers were me.sured by colorime.ric enzymatic me.hods. Hyperhomocysteinemia was present in 27.3% (41/150) of the entire study population. Type 2 diabetics had a frequency of hyperhomocysteinemia of 36% (36/100) and control 10% (5/50) (p = 0.001). The me.n hyperhomocysteinemia concentration was 31.9 μmol/l with extreme. ranging from 18 to 103 μmol/l. me.ns of biological markers between diabetics and controls showed a statistically significant difference (p = 0.01). The risk factors associated with this HHcy were: sex (OR = 3.5), age (OR = 9.4), sedentary lifestyle (OR = 3.4) and glycosylated hemoglobin (OR = 12) with a p-value espectively. Our results suggest that hyperhomocysteinemia can be considered as a predictive biomarker in the bioclinic of congolese type 2 diabetic patients.

The prevalence of obesity has increased and is a health concern *** to the concerns regarding synthetic anti-obesity treatme.ts,nowadays natural products become.a *** studies proved that there is a potential to use marine algae as anti-obesity ***,in this study,the lipid inhibitory effect of crude polysaccharide of amyloglucosidase-assisted hydrolysate from Sargassum thunbergii(STAc)and its fucoidan fractions(STAFs)on 3T3-L1 cells and high-fat diet(HFd)-induc.d.obese mice were *** to the results,the STAF3,showed the highest xylose content and exhibited significant inhibitory effects on lipid accumulation by downregulating adipogenic and lipogenic proteins in 3T3-L1 ***,oral suppleme.tation with STAc significantly declined gain in body weight and fat weight,and serum lipid contents in an HFd-induc.d.obesity mouse *** and chemical characterizations demonstrated that puritied STAF3 has consistent surface morphology and small particle size,with similar structural characteristics as comme.cial ***,these results indicate that STAc and purified STAF3 from Sargassum thunbergia is a potent source to develop as ananti-obesity agents or functional food products to counter obesity.
