Impact of vaccination on the dynamics of cOVID-19:A mathematical study using fractional derivatives

Arrival of a new disease marks a yearlong destruction of human lives and economy in general,and if the disease turns out to be a pandemic the loss is frightening.cOVID-19 is one such pandemic that has claimed millions of lives till date.There is a suffering throughout the world due to various factors associated with the pandemic,be it loss of livelihoods because of sudden shutdown of companies and lockdown,or loss of lives due to lack of medical aid and inadequate vaccination supplies.In this study,we develop a six-compartmental epidemiological model incorporating vaccination.The motivation behind the study is to analyze the significance of higher vaccination efficacy and higher rate of population getting vaccinated in controlling the rise in infectives and thereby the untimely demise of various individuals.The work begins with an ordinary differential equation model followed by stability analysis of the same,after which a fractional-order derivative model of the same is formulated and the existence of uniformly stable solution for the system is proved.In addition to this,we present the stability of the equilibria in general for the fractional model framed.The sensitivity analysis of the basic reproduction number along with its correlation with various parameters is presented.In addition to this,sensitivity of certain state variables in the fractional model with respect to different.fractional orders as well with respect to different infection rate is exhibited in this work.Factors related to lockdown and usage of face shields are incorporated in the entire study,and importance of these is highlighted in the study as well.The major takeaway from the study is that mere vaccination will not sufice in eradication of the virus.The vaccine efficacy plays a major role along with other intervention included in the model.The numerical simulations are carried out in MATLAB software using ode45 and fdel2.

Foraging valor linked with aggression:selection against completely abandoning aggression in the high-elevation ant Tetramorium alpestre?

Aggression has multiple benefits and is often coupled with other behaviors("behavioral syndromes").The level of aggressiveness is influenced by an adaptive benefit-cost ratio suggesting that benefits should outweigh the costs of aggression.Here,we assess if several behaviors are coupled in two behaviorally different populations(aggressive,peaceful)of the high-elevation ant Tetramorium alpestre.For three weeks,we collected colony fragments and analyzed boldness,exploring,foraging,and risk-taking behaviors.We hypothesized that the aggressive population is bolder,more explorative and risk-prone,and forages more food than the peaceful population.To test whether(a)the combination of experiments and parameters used yields a good setup,(b)populations differ behaviorally,and(c)populations display behavioral syndromes,we assessed(a)the frequency of repeatable behaviors of each experiment,(b)the behavioral means among populations,and(c)the behavioral repeatability,respectively.We found that(a)boldness and exploring were most repeatable and represent a good experimental setup,(b)the aggressive population was bolder and more explorative and risk-prone than the peaceful population,(c)boldness and exploring behaviors were highly repeatable in both populations,thus corroborating our hypothesis.The results suggest that boldness,exploring,and risk-taking but not foraging are presumably coupled with aggression and indicate the presence of behavioral syndromes in this ant.Under specific ecological conditions,aggression may be coupled with other behaviors and important for finding food.Aggression is probably adaptive in T.alpestre,possibly indicating that selection favors aggression at least partially,which may counteract the complete loss of intraspecific aggression.

Airway management of a patient with linear immunoglobulin A bullous dermatosis:A case report

BAcKGROUND There is limited literature on managing the airway of patients with linear immunoglobulin A(IgA)bullous dermatosis,a rare mucocutaneous disorder that leads to the development of friable bullae.careful clinical decision making is necessary when there is a risk of bleeding into the airway,and a multidisciplinary team approach may lead to decreased patient morbidity during these high-risk scenarios,especially when confronted with an unusual cause for bleeding.cASE SUMMARY A 45-year-old African American female presented to our ambulatory surgical center for right corneal transplantation due to corneal perforation after blunt trauma in the setting of cicatricial conjunctivitis and diffuse corneal neovascularization from linear IgA bullous dermatosis.The diagnosis of IgA dermatosis was recent,and the patient had been lost to follow-up.The severity of the disease and extent of airway involvement was unknown at the time of the surgery.Significant airway bleeding was noticed upon intubation and the otorhinolaryngology team had to be called to the operating room.The patient required transfer to the intensive care unit where a multidisciplinary team was involved in her case.The patient was extubated on postoperative day 4.cONcLUSION A multidisciplinary approach to treating this disease is the best course of action before a surgical procedure.In our case,key communication between the surgery,anesthesia,and dermatology teams led to the quick and safe treatment of our patient’s disease.Ambulatory surgery should not be considered for these cases unless they are in full remission and there is no mucous membrane involvement.

n-Alkane bound biomarker fingerprints from asphaltenes in the bitumens of Eastern Dahomey Basin,Nigeria:Source and genetic implications

The asphaltene fractions of the bitumens of Eastern Dahomey Basin in Nigeria,were analyzed by flash pyrolysis-gas chromatography(Py-Gc)method in order to unravel its geochemical history and properties.The distributions of the initial biomarkers of the original oils from the pyrolysates are related to the assessment of organic matter source,paleo-redox conditions and source environment during deposition.Also,it effectively establishes the genetic relationship of the bitumens.The n-alkane distributions in the pyrolysates reveal nc_(9)-nc_(32)n-alkanes,maximizing at nc_(14),isoprenoids-pristane(Pr)and phytane(Ph),and some n-alkene peaks.High peaks of low to medium-weight nc_(9)-nc20 n-alkanes and low peaks of nc_(21)+n-alkanes characterize the distributions.These reveal that abundant algal organic matter with some terrigenous inputs contributed to the source rock of the bitumens.The high concentration of marine organic matter inputs to the source rock is further confirmed by the nc_(17)/nc27 ratios which range from 5.39 to 19.82 and shows the predominance of nc_(17)alkanes.The general unimodal n-alkane distributions in the bitumens indicate derivation from similar organic matter types showing that they are genetically related.The anoxic to suboxic environmental conditions that prevailed during the deposition of the sediments is revealed by the isoprenoids,Pr/Ph ratios(0.72-1.28).Pristane/nc_(17)and Phytane/nc_(18)range from 0.16 to 0.33 and 0.22 to 0.56,revealing that the bitumens were from predominantly marine organic matter(type II kerogen)preserved in a reducing environment with no evidence of biodegradation.However,the Ph/nc_(18)ratio and the cross plot of Pr+Ph/nc_(17)+nc_(18)allow the classification of the bitumens into two subfamilies/groups(A and B).The bitumen samples have low wax content as indicated by the degree of waxiness ranging from 0.21 to 0.38 which confirms low terrigenous input.Based on the carbon preference index(cPI:0.92 to 1.55)and odd-even predominance(OEP:0.70 to 1.36),it is concluded that t

Dynamic Event-Triggered consensus control for Input constrained Multi-Agent Systems With a Designable Minimum Inter-Event Time

This paper investigates the consensus control of multi-agent systems(MASs) with constrained input using the dynamic event-triggered mechanism(ETM).consider the MASs with small-scale networks where a centralized dynamic ETM with global information of the MASs is first designed.Then,a distributed dynamic ETM which only uses local information is developed for the MASs with large-scale networks.It is shown that the semi-global consensus of the MASs can be achieved by the designed bounded control protocol where the Zeno phenomenon is eliminated by a designable minimum inter-event time.In addition,it is easier to find a trade-off between the convergence rate and the minimum inter-event time by an adjustable parameter.Furthermore,the results are extended to regional consensus of the MASs with the bounded control protocol.Numerical simulations show the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Prescribed-Time Nash Equilibrium Seeking for Pursuit-Evasion Game

Dear Editor,This letter is concerned with prescribed-time Nash equilibrium(PTNE)seeking problem in a pursuit-evasion game(PEG)involving agents with second-order dynamics.In order to achieve the prior-given and user-defined convergence time for the PEG,a PTNE seeking algorithm has been developed to facilitate collaboration among multiple pursuers for capturing the evader without the need for any global information.Then,it is theoretically proved that the prescribedtime convergence of the designed algorithm for achieving Nash equilibrium of PEG.Eventually,the effectiveness of the PTNE method was validated by numerical simulation results.A PEG consists of two groups of agents:evaders and pursuers.The pursuers aim to capture the evaders through cooperative efforts,while the evaders strive to evade capture.PEG is a classic noncooperative game.It has attracted plenty of attention due to its wide application scenarios,such as smart grids[1],formation control[2],[3],and spacecraft rendezvous[4].It is noteworthy that most previous research on seeking the Nash equilibrium of the game,where no agent has an incentive to change its actions,has focused on asymptotic and exponential convergence[5]-[7].

Adaptive neural network control of a 2-DOF helicopter system considering input constraints and global prescribed performance

In this study, an adaptive neural network(NN) control is proposed for nonlinear two-degree-offreedom(2-DOF) helicopter systems considering the input constraints and global prescribed performance.First, radial basis function NN(RBFNN) is employed to estimate the unknown dynamics of the helicopter system. Second, a smooth nonaffine function is exploited to approximate and address nonlinear constraint functions. Subsequently, a new prescribed function is proposed, and an original constrained error is transformed into an equivalent unconstrained error using the error transformation and barrier function transformation methods. The analysis of the established Lyapunov function proves that the controlled system is globally uniformly bounded. Finally, the simulation and experimental results on a constructed Quanser's test platform verify the rationality and feasibility of the proposed control.

Hepatitis B virus(HBV)infection is a major player in chronic hepatitis B that may lead to the development of hepatocellular carcinoma(Hcc).HBV genetics are diverse where it is classified into at least 9 genotypes(A to I)and 1 putative genotype(J),each with specific geographical distribution and possible different clinical outcomes in the patient.This diversity may be associated with the precision medicine for HBV-related Hcc and the success of therapeutical approaches against Hcc,related to different pathogenicity of the virus and host response.This Editorial discusses recent updates on whether the classification of HBV genetic diversity is still valid in terms of viral oncogenicity to the Hcc and its precision medicine,in addition to the recent advances in cellular and molecular biology technologies.

The first search for the doubly heavy Ωbc~0 baryon and a search for the Ξbc~0 baryon are performed using pp collision data collected via the LHcb experiment from 2016 to 2018 at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV,corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.2 fb-1.The baryons are reconstructed via their decays to ∧c~+π~-andΞc~+π~-.No significant excess is found for invariant masses between 6700 and 7300 MeV/c2,in a rapidity range from2.0 to 4.5 and a transverse momentum range from 2 to 20 MeV/c.Upper limits are set on the ratio of the Ωbc~0 andΞbc~0 production cross-section times the branching fraction to ∧c~+π~-(Ξc~+π~-) relative to that of the ∧b~0(Ξb~0) baryon,for different lifetime hypotheses,at 95% confidence level.The upper limits range from 0.5×10-4to 2.5×10-4for theΩbc~0→∧c~+π~-(Ξbc~0→∧c~+π~-) decay,and from 1.4×10-3to 6.9×10-3for the Ωbc~0→Ξc~+π~-(Ξbc~0→Ξc~+π~-) decay,depending on the considered mass and lifetime of the Ωbc~0(Ξbc~0) baryon.
