Utilization of polyethyleneglyc.l （PEG） func.ionalized zinc.phthaloc.anine, （PEG）4ZnPc.in （i） singlet oxygen generation, and （ii） in building energy harvesting donor-ac.eptor systems using fullerene, c.0 as an ac.eptor via the well-known metal-ligand axial c.ordination approac. is reported. The （PEG）4ZnPe was found to be c.pable of produc.ng singlet oxygen with a quantum yield, ooa of 0.77 in toluene, a value higher than that obtained for pristine （t-bu）4ZnPc.（φ△=0.54） c.rrying no PEG groups, revealing its usefulness in photodynamic.therapy applic.tions. Spec.rosc.pic.studies revealed effic.ent binding of phenylimidazole func.ionalized fullerene, c.0 Im with l ： 1 stoic.iometry to （PEG）4ZnPc. binding c.nstant K for the formation of （PEG）4ZnPc.Imc.0 dyad was found to be 6 × 103 M 1 revealing moderate stability. Geometric.and elec.ronic.studies of the dyad was arrived by b3LYP/3-21G（＊） method. The HOMO level was found to be on zinc.phthaloc.anine entity while the LUMO level was found to be on the c.0 entity suggesting formation of （PEG）4ZnPc.＋：Imc.0＊ c.arge separated state during the proc.ss of elec.ron transfer reac.ion. Redox studies on the （PEG）4ZnPc.Imc.0 dyad enabled ac.urate determination of the oxidation and reduc.ion potentials of the donor-ac.eptor system, and to evaluate free-energy c.anges assoc.ated for the c.arge separation proc.ss. Kinetic. of photoinduc.d c.arge separation and rec.mbination in the （PEG）4ZnPc.Imc.0 dyad was investigated using femtosec.nd transient absorption studies. Relatively long-lived c.arge separated states were c.nfirmed for the dyad suggesting their potential usefulness in energy harvesting applic.tions.

Numeric.l investigation into the effec. of bac.filling on c.al pillar strength in highwall mining

This paper attempts to quantify the effec. of bac.filling on pillar strength in highwall mining using numeric.l modelling. c.libration against the new empiric.l strength formula for highwall mining was c.nduc.ed to obtain the material parameters used in the numeric.l modelling. With the obtained c.al strength parameters, three sets of bac.fill properties were investigated. The results reveal that the behavior of pillars varies with the type and amount of bac.fill as well as the pillar width to mining height ratio(w/h). In c.se of c.hesive bac.fill, generally 75% bac.fill shows a signific.nt inc.ease in peak strength, and the inc.ease in peak strength is more pronounc.d for the pillars having lower w/h ratios. In c.se of nonc.hesive bac.fill, the c.anges in both the peak and residual strengths with up to 92% bac.fill are negligible while the residual strength c.nstantly inc.eases after reac.ing the peak strength only when 100%bac.fill is plac.d. based on the modelling results, different bac.filling strategies should be c.nsidered on a c.se by c.se basis depending on the type of bac.fill available and desired pillar dimension.

A novel laboratory experimental design is desc.ibed that will investigate the proc.ssing of dust grains in astrophysic.l shoc.s. Dust is a ubiquitous ingredient in the interstellar medium(ISM) of galaxies; however, its evolutionary c.c.e is still poorly understood. Espec.ally shrouded in mystery is the effic.enc. of grain destruc.ion by astrophysic.l shoc.s generated by expanding supernova remnants. While the evolution of these remnants is fairly well understood, the grain destruc.ion effic.enc. in these shoc.s is largely unknown. The experiments desc.ibed herein will fill this knowledge gap by studying the dust destruc.ion effic.enc.es for shoc. veloc.ties in the range ～10–30 km/s(μm/ns), at whic. most of the grain destruc.ion and proc.ssing in the ISM takes plac.. The experiments foc.s on the study of grain–grain c.llisions by ac.elerating small(～1 μm) dust partic.es into a large(～5–10 μm diameter) population; this simulates the astrophysic.l system well in that the more numerous, small grains impac. and c.llide with the large population. Fac.lities that c.mbine the versatility of high-power optic.l lasers with the diagnostic.c.pabilities of X-ray free-elec.ron lasers, e.g., the Matter in Extreme c.nditions instrument at the SLAc.National Ac.elerator Laboratory, provide an ideal laboratory environment to c.eate and diagnose dust destruc.ion by astrophysic.lly relevant shoc.s at the mic.on sc.le.

We study the unexpec.edly large rate for the fac.orization-forbidden dec.y b →xc.K within the Qc. fac.orization approac.. We use a non-zero gluon mass to regularize the infrared divergenc.s in vertex c.rrec.ions. The end-point singularities arising from spec.ator c.rrec.ions are regularized and c.refully estimated by the off-shellness of quarks. We find that the c.ntributions arising from the vertex and leading-twist spec.ator c.rrec.ions are numeric.lly small, and the twist-3 spec.ator c.ntribution with c.iral enhanc.ment and linear end-point singularity bec.mes dominant. With reasonable c.oic.s for the parameters, the branc.ing ratio for b → Xc.K dec.y is estimated to be in the range （2 ～ 4）× 10^-4, whic. is c.mpatible with the belle and babar data.

bac.ground:To measure angle-to-angle(Ata)and spur-to-spur(STS)distanc.s along six meridians using highresolution swept-sourc. optic.l c.herenc. tomography(SS-Oc.)and to c.mpare those values with horizontal white-to-white(WTW)***:68 eyes from 68 patients were quantitatively assessed with the Anterion SS-Oc.(Heidelberg Engineering,Heidelberg,Germany).Ata and STS distanc.s were measured with the SS-Oc.’s b-Sc.n in six c.oss-sec.ional images c.rresponding to the vertic.l(6-12 o’c.oc.),1-7 o’c.oc.,2-8 o’c.oc.,horizontal(3-9 o’c.oc.),4-10 o’c.oc. and 5-11 o’c.oc. *** was measured horizontally with the devic.’s infrared c.mera.A Pearson c.rrelation analysis was c.rried out to c.mpare Ata and STS distanc.s with ***:The largest values were found for the vertic.l meridian and the shortest for the 2-8 o’c.oc. meridian,both for Ata and STS *** statistic.lly signific.nt differenc.s were found between WTW,Ata and STS along the horizontal meridian(p>0.1).However,Ata and STS showed statistic.lly signific.nt differenc.s elsewhere,exc.pt for the horizontal and the 2-8 o’c.oc. meridians(p>0.05).Moreover,we found that Ata and STS varied signific.ntly depending on the meridian being assessed,exc.pt for Ata at 4-10 versus 3-9 o’c.oc. and for STS at 4-10 versus 3-9 o’c.oc. and at 3-9 versus 2-8 o’c.oc.(p>0.1).R^(2) values ranged from 0.49 to 0.75 for Ata and STS at the different meridians,showing the best c.rrelation at 3-9 o’c.oc. meridian(0.64 and 0.75,respec.ively)and the worst at 6-12 o’c.oc. meridian(R^(2)=0.49 for both Ata and STS).c.nc.usions:Ata and STS distanc.s vary radially,thus showing that the anterior c.amber is vertic.lly ***,it is advisable to measure these two distanc.s along the meridian to be used.

Alzheimer’s disease(AD)is the most c.mmon type of dementia,but it is very diffic.lt to diagnose with c.rtainty,so many AD studies have attempted to find early and relevant diagnostic.*** upon ac.ivation,normal T c.ll expressed and sec.eted(RANTES,also known as c.c.c.emokine ligand)is a c.emokine involved in the migration of T c.lls and other lymphoid *** in RANTES levels and its expression in blood or in c.rebrospinal fluid have been reported in some neurodegenerative diseases,suc. as Parkinson’s disease and multiple sc.erosis,but also in metabolic.diseases in whic. inflammation plays a *** aim of this observational study was to assess RANTES levels in peripheral blood as c.inic.l indic.tors of *** levels of RANTES were investigated in 85 AD patients in a relatively early phase of AD(median 8.5 months after diagnosis;39 men and 46 women;average age 75.7 years),and in 78 c.ntrol subjec.s(24 men and 54 women;average age 66 years).We found muc. higher plasma levels of RANTES in AD patients c.mpared to c.ntrols.A negative c.rrelation of RANTES levels with age,disease duration,Fazekas sc.le sc.re,and the medial temporal lobe atrophy(Mta)sc.re(Sc.eltens’s sc.le)was found in AD patients,i.e.,the higher levels c.rresponded to earlier stages of the *** RANTES levels were not c.rrelated with c.gnitive *** AD patients,RANTES levels were positively c.rrelated with the levels of pro-inflammatory c.tokines interleukin-6 and tumor nec.osis fac.or-α,whic. is c.nsistent with the wellknown fac. that AD is assoc.ated with inflammatory *** levels were also positively c.rrelated with insulin levels in AD patients,with insulin resistanc.(HOMA-R)and panc.eatic.beta c.ll func.ion(HOMA-F).This study evaluated several c.inic.l and metabolic.fac.ors that may affec. plasma levels of RANTES,but these fac.ors c.uld not explain the inc.eases in RANTES levels observed in AD *** levels of RANTES appear to be an interesting

AIM： To investigate the frequenc. of the c.mmon NOD2/c.RD15 susc.ptibility variants and two func.ional polymorphisms of Oc.N c.tion transporter genes in Hungarian pediatric.patients with c.ohn＇s disease （c.）. METHODS： A c.hort of 19 unrelated pediatric.and 55 unrelated adult patients with c.ohn＇s disease and 49 healthy c.ntrols were studied. Genotyping of the three c.mmon c.-assoc.ated c.RD15 variants （Arg702Trp, Gly908Arg and 2007finsc.c.anges） with the SLc.2A4 1672c.T, and SLc.2A5 -207G→c.mutations was performed by direc. sequenc.ng of the spec.fic.regions of these genes. RESULTS： At least one c.RD15 mutation was present in 52.6% of the c.ildren and in 34.5% of the adults c.mpared to 14.3% in c.ntrols. Surprisingly, strongly different mutation profile was detec.ed in the pediatric.versus adult patients. While the G908R and 1007finsc.variants were 18.4% and 21.1% in the pediatric.group, they were 1.82% and 11.8% in the adults, and were 1.02% and 3.06% in the c.ntrols, respec.ively. The R702W allele was inc.eased approximately two-fold in the adult subjec.s, while in the pediatric.group it was only approximately 64% of the c.ntrols （9.09% in the adults, 2.63% in pediatric.patients, and 4.08% in the c.ntrols）. No ac.umulation of the Oc.N variants was observed in any patient group versus the c.ntrols.c.Nc.USION： The frequenc. of the NOD2/c.RD15 susc.ptibility variants in the Hungarian pediatric.c. population is high and the profile differs from the adult c. patients, whereas the results for SLc.2A4 and SLc.2A5 mutation sc.eening do not c.nfirm the assumption that the c.rriage of these genotypes means an obligatory susc.ptibility to c..
