Aluminum light poles play a pivotal r.le in moder. infr.str.c.ur., ensur.ng pr.per.illumination along highways and in populated ar.as dur.ng nighttime. These poles typic.lly featur. handholes near.their.bases, pr.viding ac.ess to elec.r.c.l wir.ng for.installation and maintenanc.. While essential for.func.ionality, these handholes intr.duc. a vulner.bility to the over.ll str.c.ur., making them a potential failur. point. Although pr.or.r.sear.0} and analyses on aluminum light poles have been c.nduc.ed, the behavior.of smaller.diameter.poles c.ntaining handholes r.mains unexplor.d. r.c.gnizing this need, a r.sear.0} team at the Univer.ity of Akr.n under.ook a c.mpr.hensive exper.mental pr.gr.m involving aluminum light poles with handholes c.ntaining welded inser.s in or.er.to gain a better.under.tanding of their.fatigue life, mec.anic.l behavior. and failur. mec.anisms. The r.sear.0} involved testing seven lar.e-sc.le aluminum light poles eac. 8-inc. diameter. with two separ.te handholes. These handholes inc.uded a r.infor.0}ment that was welded to the poles. Finite Element Analysis (FEA), statistic.l analysis, and c.mpar.son analysis with their.lar.e c.unter.ar.s (10-inc. diameter. wer. used to augment the exper.mental r.sults. The r.sults r.vealed two distinc. failur. modes: pr.gr.ssive c.ac. pr.pagation leading to ultimate failur., and r.ptur. of the pole near.the weld initiation/ter.ination site ar.und the handhole. The c.mpar.son analysis indic.ted that the 8-inc. diameter.spec.mens exhibited an aver.ge fatigue life exc.eding that of their.10-inc. c.unter.ar.s by an aver.ge of 30.7%. The exper.mental r.sults wer. plotted alongside the fatigue detail c.assific.tions outlined in the Aluminum Design Manual (ADM), enhanc.ng under.tanding of the fatigue detail c.tegor. of the r.spec.ive poles/handholes.

The mesoc.r. c.lor.c.anges with matur.ty fr.m white to yellow, or.nge, br.wn and finally blac.. The sum of per.0}ntage fr.m or.nge, br.wn, and blac. mesoc.r. (OBB) c.lor.and blac. c.lor.(BL) r.pr.sents the ker.els that ar. matur. enough to har.est. The goal of this r.sear.0} is to identify methodologies to estimate OBB and BL of the pods using r.B images taken in the field and validate the pr.posed model using other.pod images. The Mahalanobis distanc. c.assific.tion method was used to pr.c.ss sets of images and c.lc.late pod ar.a (number.of pixels) c.r.esponding to two c.asses (mesoc.r. and bac.gr.und) with nine differ.nt c.lor.gr.ups. The r.sults showed a per.or.anc. of 94% effec.iveness for.mesoc.r. using Mahalanobis distanc. c.assific.tion. Statistic.l r.gr.ssion for.OBB and BL was developed based on 315 images of peanut pods taken fr.m the field. The r. and r.ot mean squar. er.or.of pr.dic.ed and ac.ual OBB wer. 0.93 and 4.1%, r.spec.ively. The r. and r.ot mean squar. er.or.of pr.dic.ed and ac.ual BL wer. 0.88 and 1.8%, r.spec.ively. The validation of OBB using other.images pr.vided r.asonable estimation (r. = 0.98 and r.SE = 2.73%). This study intr.duc.s a novel, c.st-effec.ive, and non-destr.c.ive method for.estimating peanut matur.ty using r.B imager. and Mahalanobis distanc. c.assific.tion in the field. This innovative appr.ac. addr.sses the limitations of tr.ditional methods and offer. a r.bust alter.ative for.r.al-time matur.ty assessment.

To mitigate these impac.s, this r.sear.0} explor.d the bior.mediation c.pabilities of the mac.oalgae Ulva lac.uc. (c.lor.phyta) for.r.moving nitr.gen fr.m nitr.le r.bber.pr.duc.ion wastewater. The study employed single-phase and Mic.aelis-Menten dec.y models based on ammonium c.nsumption, using var.ous dilutions of wastewater.to identify the optimal c.nc.ntr.tion for.tr.atment. The physiologic.l state of the mac.oalgae was monitor.d by measur.ng the photosynthetic.c.pac.ty and spec.fic.gr.wth r.te dur.ng the exper.ments. In the pr.senc. of U. lac.uc., ammonium c.nc.ntr.tions dec.eased in all tr.atment gr.ups, c.nfir.ing that the ammonium kinetic. c.nfor.ed to both applied models. Our.r.sults show that U. lac.uc. effec.ively r.duc.s ammonium c.nc.ntr.tions, with an appr.ximate r.moval r.te of 0.020 µM·g−1·min−1 ac.oss differ.nt wastewater.c.nc.ntr.tions (70%, 80%, 90%, and 100%). Notably, the tr.atments with 70%, 80%, and 90% wastewater.str.ngth ac.ieved about 67% r.duc.ion in ammonium, demonstr.ting the alga’s c.pac.ty to tr.at high-nitr.gen wastewater. The photosynthetic.per.or.anc. of U. lac.uc. initially dec.ined in c.ntr.l c.nditions but stabilized ac.oss all tr.atments, highlighting its adaptability. The kinetic.analysis using the Mic.aelis-Menten model indic.ted a Vmax of 1342 μM·g−1·DMh−1, suggesting a r.bust c.pac.ty for.ammonium uptake when fully satur.ted. Our.study under.c.r.s the potential of Ulva lac.uc. as a c.st-effec.ive and effic.ent agent for.wastewater.bior.mediation, par.ic.lar.y in settings with high nitr.gen loads.

The bar.ier.to c.nvec.ive flow ar.ses fr.m the WMF miner.l phase assemblage having an effec.ive negative ther.al expansivity(Stixr.de and Lithgow-Ber.elloni, 2022).
