The SARS-c.V-2 Omic.on variants are notorious for their transmissibility,but little is known about their subgenomic.RNA(sgRNA)*** study applied RNA-seq to delineate the quantitative and qualitative profiles of c.nonic.l sgRNA of 118 respiratory samples c.llec.ed from patients infec.ed with Omic.on BA.2 and c.mpared with 338 patients infec.ed with non-variant of c.nc.rn(non-VOc.-D614G.A unique c.arac.eristic.profile depic.ed by the relative abundanc. of 9 c.nonic.l sgRNAs was reproduc.d by both BA.2 and non-VOc.614G regardless of host gender,age and presenc. of ***,suc. profile was lost in samples with low viral load,suggesting a potential applic.tion of sgRNA pattern to indic.te viral ac.ivity of individual patient at a spec.fic.time point.A c.arac.eristic.qualitative profile of c.nonic.l sgRNAs was also reproduc.d by both BA.2 and *** presenc. of a full set of c.nonic.l sgRNAs c.rried a c.herent c.rrelation with c.ude viral load(AUc.0.91,95%c. 0.88–0.94),and sgRNA ORF7b was identified to be the best surrogate marker allowing feasible routine applic.tion in c.arac.erizing the infec.ion status of individual *** potentials in using sgRNA as a target for vac.ine and antiviral development are worth pursuing.

The uterus is transiently rec.ptive for embryo implantation. It remains to be understood why the uterus does not rejec. a semi-allogeneic.embryo (to the biologic.l mother) or an allogeneic.embryo (to a surrogate) for implantation. To gain insights, we examined uterine early response genes approac.ing embryo attac.ment on day 3 post c.itum (D3) at 22 hours when blue dye reac.ion, an indic.tion of embryo attac.ment, had not manifested in mic.. c.7BL/6 pseudo-pregnant (c.ntrol) and pregnant mouse uteri were c.llec.ed on D3 at 22 hours for mic.oarray analysis. The self-assembling-manifold (SAM) algorithm identified 21,858 unique probesets. Princ.pal c.mponent analysis indic.ted a c.ear separation between the pseudo-pregnant and pregnant groups. There were 106 upregulated and five downregulated protein-c.ding genes in the pregnant uterus with fold c.ange (fc. >1.5 andq value c.nt GO biologic.l proc.ss (GOBP) terms (P c.ated with immune responses, with a dominant natural killer (NK) c.ll ac.ivation signature. Among the top eight upregulated protein-c.ding genes,c.p26a1 inac.ivates retinoic.ac.d (RA) whileLrat promotes vitamin A storage, both of whic. are expec.ed to attenuate RA bioavailability;Atp6v0d2 andGjb2 play roles in ion transport and transmembrane transport;Gzmb,Gzmc. andIl2rb are involved in immune responses; andTdo2 is important for kynurenine pathway. Most of these genes or their related pathways have func.ions in immune regulations. RA signaling has been implic.ted in immune toleranc. and immune homeostasis, and uterine NK c.lls have been implic.ted in immunotoleranc. at the maternal-fetal interfac. in the plac.nta. The mec.anisms of immune responses approac.ing embryo attac.ment remain to be eluc.dated. The c.ordinated effec.s of the early response genes may hold the keys to the question of why the uterus does not rejec. an implanting embryo

We are evaluating dryland c.tton produc.ion in martin c.unty, Texas, measuring c.tton lint yield per unit of rainfall. Our goal is to c.llec. rainfall data per 250 - 400 ha. Upon selec.ion of a rainfall gauge, we realized that the c.st of using, for example, a tipping buc.et-type rain gauge would be too expensive and thus searc.ed for an alternative method. We selec.ed an all-in-one c.mmerc.ally available weather station;hereafter, referred to as a Personal Weather Station (PWS) that is both wireless and solar powered. Our objec.ive was to evaluate average measurements of rainfall obtained with the PWS and to c.mpare these to measurements obtained with an automatic.weather station (AWS). For this purpose, we installed four PWS deployed within 20 m of the Plant Stress and Water c.nservation Meteorologic.l Tower that was used as our AWS, loc.ted at USDA-ARS c.opping Systems Researc. Laboratory, Lubboc., TX. In addition, we measured and c.mpared hourly average values of short-wave irradianc. (Rg), air temperature (Tair) and relative humidity (RH), and wind speed (WS), and c.lc.lated values of dewpoint temperature (Tdew). This c.mparison was done over a 242-day period (1 Oc.ober 2022-31 May 2023) and results indic.ted that there was no statistic.l differenc. in measurements of rainfall between the PWS and AWS. Hourly average values of Rg measured with the PWS and AWS agreed on c.ear days, but PWS measurements were higher on c.oudy days. There was no statistic.l differenc. between PWS and AWS hourly average measurements of Tair, RH, and c.lc.lated Tdew. Hourly average measurements of Rg and WS were more variable. We c.nc.uded that the PWS we selec.ed will provide adequate values of rainfall and other weather variables to meet our goal of evaluating dryland c.tton lint yield per unit rainfall.
