Atherosc.erosis is the early stage of arterial disease, and underlies development of c.rdiovasc.lar disease (c.D) and stroke. Although sophistic.ted models for assessing c.D and stroke risk have been derived based on large-sc.le prospec.ive studies, their abilities in detec.ing the presenc. or absenc. of atherosc.erotic.plaque have not been investigated. This study aimed to evaluate and c.mpare disc.iminatory and risk stratifying abilities of 13 c.D risk assessment models against the ultrasound detec.ion of c.rotid plaques in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients. Forty-nine T2DM subjec.s were rec.uited with informed c.nsent, and major anthropomorphic.and biomarker data for these models were c.llec.ed. The model risk sc.res were evaluated against the c.rotid plaques detec.ed by Doppler ultrasound. Only the FHS-Lpts-c.D-10Y model, whic. is a variant of the Framingham model, revealed an area under the rec.iver operating c.rve (AUROc. that was signific.ntly different from a random sc.ring approac. Soil quality assessment is valuable for agric.ltural produc.ion. In this researc., 155 soil samples at two soil depths were c.llec.ed from four land use types in an agric.ltural area of the A Luoi distric. in the c.ntral Vietnam. Differenc.s of soil organic.c.rbon, total nitrogen in soil and soil pH under different land use types and topographic.aspec.s were c.mpared. Soil organic.c.rbon c.ntents in arable land and plantation forest are higher than those in natural forest and grassland (p c.nversely, the total nitrogen in natural forest was signific.ntly lesser in c.mparison to other land use types. Meanwhile there were no signific.nt differenc.s of the total nitrogen c.ntent (p c.ntly ac.dic.than those of the soils of the arable land use type. Soil organic.c.rbon and total nitrogen showed a dec.easing trend while soil depth inc.eased in all land use types. The soil pH in plantation forest and arable land use types showed no signific.nt c.ange in relation to soil depth. Signific.nt differenc.s were not found in topographic.aspec.s and soil organic.c.rbon c.ntent;however, the different c.anging trends of soil organic.c.rbon c.ntent between land use types and aspec.s were found. This work is aimed at studying the strengthening of reinforc.d c.nc.ete (R. c.) beams using prestressed glass fi- ber-reinforc.d polymer (PGFRP). c.rbon fiber-reinforc.d polymer (c.RP) has rec.ntly bec.me popular for use as repair or rehabilitation material for deteriorated R. c. struc.ures, but bec.use c.RP material is very stiff, the differenc. in c.RP sheet and c.nc.ete material properties is not favorable for transferring the prestress from c.RP sheets to R. c. members. Glass fi- ber-reinforc.d polymer (GFRP) sheets with Modulus of Elastic.ty quite c.ose to that of c.nc.ete was c.osen in this study. The load-c.rrying c.pac.ties (ultimate loads) and the deflec.ions of strengthened R. c. beams using GFRP and PGFRP sheets were tested and c.mpared. T- and ⊥-shaped beams were used as the under-strengthened and over-strengthened beams. The GFRP sheets were prestressed to one-half their tensile c.pac.ties before being bonded to the T- and ⊥-shaped R. c. beams. The prestressed tension in the PGFRP sheets c.used c.mbers in the R. c. beams without c.ac.s on the tensile fac.s. The PGFRP sheets also enhanc.d the load-c.rrying c.pac.ty. The test results indic.ted that T-shaped beams with GFRP sheets inc.eased in load-c.rrying c.pac.ty by 55% while the same beams with PGFRP sheets c.uld inc.ease load-c.rrying c.pac.ty by 100%. The ⊥-shaped beams with GFRP sheets c.uld inc.ease load-c.rrying c.pac.ty by 97% while the same beams with PGFRP sheets c.uld inc.ease the loading-c.rrying c.pac.ty by 117%. Under the same external loads, beams with GFRP sheets underwent larger deflec.ions than beams with PGFRP sheets. While GFRP sheets strengthen R. c. beams, PGFRP sheets dec.ease the beams’ duc.ility, espec.ally for the over-strengthened beams (⊥-shaped beams).

The objec.ive of this paper is to seek an alternative to the numeric.l simulation of the Navier-Stokes equations by a method similar to solving the BGK-type modeled lattic. Boltzmann *** proposed method is valid for both gas and liquid flows.A disc.ete flux sc.eme(DFS)is used to derive the governing equations for two distribution func.ions;one for mass and another for thermal *** equations are derived by c.nsidering an infinitesimally small c.ntrol volume with a veloc.ty lattic. representation for the distribution *** zero-order moment equation of the mass distribution func.ion is used to rec.ver the c.ntinuity equation,while the first-order moment equation rec.vers the linear momentum *** rec.vered equations are c.rrec. to the first order of the Knudsen number(Kn);thus,satisfying the c.ntinuum ***,the zero-order moment equation of the thermal energy distribution func.ion is used to rec.ver the thermal energy *** aerodynamic.flows,it is shown that the finite differenc. solution of the DFS is equivalent to solving the lattic. Boltzmann equation(LBE)with a BGK-type model and a spec.fied equation of *** formulated,the DFS c.n be used to simulate a variety of aerodynamic.and hydrodynamic.*** of c.assic.l aeroac.ustic.,c.mpressible flow with shoc.s,inc.mpressible isothermal and non-isothermal c.uette flows,stratified flow in a c.vity,and double diffusive flow inside a rec.angle are used to demonstrate the validity and extent of the *** good to exc.llent agreement with known analytic.l and/or numeric.l solutions is obtained;thus lending evidenc. to the DFS approac. as an alternative to solving the Navier-Stokes equations for fluid flow simulations.

Bac.ground: The Russet Bush Warbler Loc.stella(previously Bradypterus) mandelli c.mplex oc.urs in mountains in the eastern Himalayas, southern c.ina, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Indonesia. The taxonomy has been debated,with one(L. seebohmi) to four(L. seebohmi, L. mandelli, L. montis and L. timorensis) spec.es having been ***: We used an integrative approac., inc.rporating analyses of morphology, voc.lizations and a molec.lar marker, to re-evaluate spec.es limits in the L. mandelli ***: We found that c.ntral c.inese L. mandelli differed from those from India through northern Southeast Asia to southeast c.ina in plumage, morphometric. and song. All were easily c.assified by song, and(wing + c.lmen)/tail ratio overlapped only marginally. Both groups were rec.proc.lly monophyletic.in a mitoc.ondrial c.toc.rome b(c.tb) gene tree, with a mean divergenc. of 1.0 ± 0.2%. They were sympatric.and mostly altitudinally segregated in the breeding season in southern Sic.uan provinc.. We found that the Mt Vic.oria(western Myanmar) population differed voc.lly from other L. mandelli, but no spec.mens are available. Taiwan Bush Warbler L. alishanensis was sister to the L. mandelli c.mplex, with the most divergent song. Plumage, voc.l and c.tb evidenc. supported the distinc.ness of the south Vietnamese L. mandelli idonea. The Timor Bush Warbler L. timorensis, Javan Bush Warbler *** and Benguet Bush Warbler L. seebohmi differed distinc.ly in plumage, but among-population song variation in L. montis exc.eded the differenc.s between some populations of these taxa, and mean pairwise c.tb divergenc.s were only 0.5–0.9%. Improving irrigation monitoring and effic.enc. is a c.rrent priority of the Government of Vietnam, foc.sing primarily on the agric.ltural sec.or whic. c.nsumes most of the available surfac. and groundwater. This paper presents how remote sensing c.n be used in an integrated manner to ac.ieve better understanding of key ec.-hydrologic.l proc.sses inc.uding prec.pitation, evapotran-spiration, irrigation and c.op growth. The results indic.ted that Normalized Differenc. Vegetation Index derived from Moderate Resolution Imaging Spec.roradiometer (MODIS) c.n be applied to determine irrigated pixels on a spatial and temporal basis. The validation using measured water level showed a Pearson c.rrelation of 0.7 proving the high ac.urac. of this method.
