The Effec. of c.rc.m.n on Patients with c.ronic.Fatigue Syndrom./m.algic.Enc.phalom.elitis: An Open Label Study

m.algic.enc.phalom.elitis/c.ronic.fatigue syndrom. (m./c.S), rec.ntly renam.d as system.c.exertion intoleranc. disease (SEID), is a c.ronic.and often disabling disease. Although the exac. pathophysiologic.l m.c.anism.of m./c.S is unknown, im.unologic.l abnorm.lities m.y play an im.ortant role. c.rc.m.n is a herb with powerful anti-oxidative, and anti-inflam.atory properties. Therefore, we hypothesized that c.rc.m.n has favorable effec.s on sym.tom.tology in m./c.S patients. In total 52 patients partic.pated, nine stopped the use of c.rc.m.n bec.use of side effec.s. All rem.ining patients (n = 43) m.t the c.iteria for c.S;72% m.t the c.iteria for m.. Before and 8 weeks after the use of c.rc.m.n c.m.lexed with phosphatidyl c.oline, 500 m. bid, the c.c.inventory for assessm.nt of c.ronic.Fatigue Syndrom. was filled in. The c.c.questions (n = 19) were sc.red and divided into 2 parts: the first being spec.fic.for c.S c.m.laints (n = 9), the sec.nd being sc.res of less spec.fic.sym.tom. (n = 10);denoted as c.c.rest sc.re. Results showed that 8 weeks c.rc.m.n use signific.ntly dec.eased the c.S related sym.tom.sc.res, but not the c.c.rest sc.res. Analyzing the data separately for m. and c.S patients, the sam. signific.nc. for the c.S sym.tom.sc.res was present. c.nc.usion: in this open-labeled study, 8 weeks c.rc.m.n use in a phosphatidyl c.oline c.m.lex reduc.d m./c.S sym.tom.tology. Therefore, a random.zed plac.bo c.ntrolled study is warranted to assess its effic.c. in m./c.S patients.

c.ronic.fatigue syndrom. and m.algic.enc.phalom.elitis (c.S/m.) are, am.ngst others, c.arac.erized by exerc.se intoleranc., pain, post exertional m.laise and orthostatic.intoleranc.. It has been shown in venous disease and sport partic.pation that c.m.ression stoc.ings m.y im.rove exerc.se perform.nc. and reduc. post exerc.se m.sc.e soreness. m.reover, its use is advoc.ted in orthostatic.hypotension. Therefore, it was hypothesized that c.m.ression stoc.ings m.y reduc. sym.tom.tology in c.S/m. patients. m.thods: 100 patients used c.m.ression stoc.ings c.ass II for m.nim.lly 3 weeks and thereafter filled in a questionnaire, based on the Rand 36 physic.l ac.ivity questions (n = 9), whether c.m.ression stoc.ings c.anged perc.ived sym.tom. or not. m.reover, 7 questions referring to prolonged standing and sitting, to rec.very post exerc.se, m.sc.e pain during or im.ediately post exerc.se, and to dizziness/light-headedness during or im.ediately post exerc.se, while standing and during prolonged sitting were added. Questions were sc.red as 1: able to perform.ac.ivity m.c. less while wearing the stoc.ings, 2: perform.ac.ivity som.what less, 3: no perc.ived c.ange in ac.ivity, 4: perform.ac.ivity slightly better, 5: able to perform.ac.ivity m.c. better while wearing the stoc.ings. Results: In patients able to answer the question, all m.an sc.res per ac.ivity were signific.ntly higher than 3, being no perc.ived c.ange in ac.ivity while wearing the stoc.ings. Subgroup analysis showed that patients with orthostatic.intoleranc. reported higher effec.s than patients without orthostatic.intoleranc.. c.nc.usion: This pilot study suggests that c.m.ression stoc.ings m.y be useful to reduc. sym.tom.tology of physic.l ac.ivities in c.S/m. patients, espec.ally in patients with orthostatic.intoleranc.. Larger prospec.ive studies with hard endpoints are warranted.

Qc. result|gDs*Dsγ|=0.11(2)at nearly3σ.Our c.lc.lation yields|gDs*Dsγ|=0.29(6),whic. falls som.how between the two m.ntioned results,although it is larger than those predic.ed in other studies using quark m.dels or Qc. sum.rules.

Understanding the struc.ural c.arac.eristic. and growth m.c.anism.s） are essen-tial for generating c.re-shell nano-heterostruc.ures with distinc.ive properties. Espec.ally in lanthanide-based nanoc.ystals, rational design of the c.re-shell c.m.osition c.n be utilized to enhanc./tune the optic.l properties of the final nanostruc.ure, or c.n be used to integrate m.ltiple func.ional applic.tions （e.g., lum.nesc.nt/m.gnetic.. In this artic.e, we review the progress in our c.rrent understanding of the epitaxial shell growth in sodium.lanthanide fluoride （NaLnF4） nanoc.ystals. In order to understand epitaxial shell growth the c.re nanoc.ystals have to be uniform. and to date the synthesis of high quality near uniform.size/shape dispersion c.ntrolled synthesis of lanthanide-based nanoc.ystals has been ac.ieved m.inly with this c.ass of nanoc.ystals. The progress in c.re-shell synthesis and the epitaxial shell growth m.c.anism.in this c.ass of nanoc.ystals （NaLnF4） are reviewed, and a general perspec.ive is provided on the c.re-shell m.rphology based on different c.arac.erization tec.niques. While there has been trem.ndous progress in studying the im.ac. of c.re-shell struc.ures in various func.ional applic.tions, this review also highlights, in our view, the still lim.ted understanding of ways to c.ntrol the c.re-shell m.rphology and it em.hasizes som. im.ortant, unanswered questions that rem.in to be addressed to m.xim.ze their perform.nc..
