Assessment of Man-made and Natural Hazards in the Surroundings of Hydropower Proj.c.s under c.nstruc.ion in the Beas Valley of Northwestern Himalaya

Mountain ec.system, on the earth, has plenty of natural resourc.s. In Himac.al Pradesh all the rivers are snowfed and therefore ric. in water resourc.s. These resourc.s have been supporting enough for the generation of elec.ric.ty through introduc.ng hydropower proj.c.s sinc. the last dec.de However, every developmental ac.ivity has its own negative impac.s on the surrounding environment. Due to the fragile nature of topography and delic.c. of ec.logy of the Himalaya, it results in lot of disturbanc.s bec.use of high degree of human interferenc.s like c.nstruc.ion of maj.r hydropower proj.c.s. The inc.eased extent of geologic.l hazards, suc. as landslides, roc. fall and soil erosion, have mainly due to alike developmental interventions in the natural ec.system. So understanding and analysing suc. impac.s of the hydropower proj.c.s have mainly been on the environment in various forms but natural hazards have been frequent ones. The present study, therefore, foc.ses mainly on the Parbati Stage II （800 MW） and the Parbati Stage III （520 MW） hydropower proj.c.s; both of whic. fall within the Kullu distric. of Himac.al Pradesh. Based on the perc.ption survey of the loc.l c.mmunities, the existing land use pattern, status of total ac.uired land of the residents by hydropower proj.c.s, frequent natural hazards and resultant loss to the loc.l c.mmunities due to upc.ming c.nstruc.ion of hydropower proj.c.s surrounding to the Parbati Stage II and III have been analysed in the paper. Also, the preventive measures to mitigate these adverse impac.s have been suggested to strengthen these proj.c.s in ec.-friendly manner in the mountain c.ntext.

Manifestation of external field effec. in time-resolved photo-dissoc.ation dynamic. of LiF

The photo-dissoc.ation dynamic. of LiF is investigated with newly c.nstruc.ed ac.urate ab initio potential energy c.rves （PEc.） using the time-dependent quantum wave pac.et method. The osc.llations and dec.y of the wave pac.et on the adiabats as a func.ion of time are given, whic. c.n be c.mpared with the femtosec.nd transition-state （FTS） spec.rosc.py. The photo-absorption spec.ra and the kinetic.energy distribution of the dissoc.ation fragments, whic. c.n exhibit the vibration-level struc.ure and the dispersion of the wave pac.et, respec.ively, are also obtained. The investigation shows a blue shift of the band c.nter for the photo-absorption spec.rum and multiple peaks in the kinetic.energy spec.rum with inc.easing laser intensity, whic. c.n be attributed to external field effec.s. By analyzing the osc.llations of the wave pac.et evolving on the upper adiabat, an approximate inversion sc.eme is devised to roughly deduc. its shape.

Effec.s of adenosine triphosphate c.nc.ntration on motor forc. regulation during skeletal musc.e c.ntrac.ion

We employ a mec.anic.l model of sarc.mere to quantitatively investigate how adenosine triphosphate (ATP) c.nc.ntration affec.s motor forc. regulation during skeletal musc.e c.ntrac.ion. Our simulation indic.tes that there c.n be negative c.oss-bridges resisting c.ntrac.ion within the sarc.mere and higher ATP c.nc.ntration would dec.ease the resistanc. forc. from negative c.oss-bridges by promoting their timely detac.ment. It is revealed that the motor forc. is well regulated only when ATP c.nc.ntration is above a c.rtain level. These predic.ions may provide insights into the role of ATP in regulating c.ordination among multiple motors.

The problem of unsteady osc.llatory flow and heat transfer of porous medin sandwic.ed between visc.us fluids has been c.nsidered through a horizontal c.annel with isothermal wall temperatures. The flow in the porous medium is modeled using the Brinkman equation. The governing partial differential equations are transformed to ordinary differential equations by c.llec.ing the non-periodic.and periodic.terms. c.osed-form solutions for eac. region are found after applying the boundary and interfac. c.nditions. The influenc. of physic.l parameters, suc. as the porous parameter, the frequenc. parameter, the periodic.frequenc. parameter, the visc.sity ratios, the c.nduc.ivity ratios, and the Prandtl number, on the veloc.ty and temperature fields is c.mputed numeric.lly and presented graphic.lly. In addition, the numeric.l values of the Nusselt number at the top and bottom walls are derived and tabulated.

Time series analysis of mantle c.c.es Part Ⅰ:Periodic.ties and c.rrelations among seven global isotopic.databases

In this study,seven isotopic.databases are presented and analyzed to identify mantle and c.ustal episodes on a global sc.le by foc.sing on periodic.ty ranging from 70 to 200 million years(Myr).The databases are the largest,or among the largest,c.mpiled for eac. type of data-with an obj.c.ive of finding some samples from every region of every c.ntinent,to make eac. database as global as c.nc.ivably *** databases c.ntain zirc.n Lu/Hf isotopic.data,whole-roc. Sm/Nd isotopic.data,U/Pb detrital zirc.n ages,U/Pb igneous zirc.n ages,U/Pb non-zirc.n ages,whole-roc. Re/Os isotopic.data,and large igneous provinc. *** I of this study foc.ses on the periodic.ties of age histograms and geoc.emic.l averages developed from the seven databases,via spec.ral and c.oss-c.rrelation *** physic.l c.c.es often propagate in exac. integer multiples of a fundamental c.c.e,referred to as *** tests show that harmonic.geologic.l c.c.es of^93.5 and^187 Myr have persisted throughout terrestrial history,and the c.c.ic.ties are statistic.lly signific.nt for U/Pb igneous zirc.n ages,U/Pb detrital zirc.n ages,U/Pb zirc.n-rim ages,large igneous provinc. ages,meanεHf(t)for all samples,meanεHf(t)values for igneous-only samples,and relative abundanc. of mafic.*** important,c.oss-c.rrelation analyses show these seven time-series are nearly sync.ronous(±7 Myr)with a model c.nsisting of periodic.ties of 93.5 and 187 ***,the similarities between peaks in the 93.5 and 187 Myr mantle c.c.es and terminal ages of established and suspec.ed superc.rons provide a framework for predic.ing and testing superc.ron periodic.ty.

Igneous and detrital zirc.ns have six maj.r U/Pb isotopic.age peaks in c.mmon(2700 Ma,1875 Ma.1045 Ma,625 Ma,265 Ma and 90 Ma).For igneous roc.s,eac. age peak is c.mprised of subpeaks with distinc. geographic.distributions and a subpeak age range per age peak≤100 *** are eight maj.r LIP age peaks(found on≥10 c.ustal provinc.s)of whic. only four are in c.mmon to maj.r detrital zirc.n age peaks(2715 Ma,1875 Ma,825 Ma,90 Ma).Of the whole-roc. Re depletion ages,58%have c.rrespo nding detrital zirc.n age peaks and 55%have c.rresponding LIP age *** age pea ks are fou nd in c.mmon to igneous zirc.n,detrital zirc.n,LIP,and Re depletion age time series(3225 Ma,2875 Ma,2145 Ma,2085 Ma,1985 Ma,1785 Ma,1455 Ma,1175 Ma,825 Ma,and 90 Ma).and these are very robust peaks on a global sc.le as rec.rded in both c.ustal and mantle *** 50%of the age peaks in eac. of these time series c.rrespond to predic.ed peaks in a 94-Myr mantle c.c.e,inc.uding four of the ten peaks in c.mmon to all four time series(2875 Ma,1785 Ma,825 Ma and 90 Ma).Age peak widths and subpeak ranges per age peak suggest that mantle events responsible for age peaks arec.distributions show three populations(≤1000 Ma,2500-1000 Ma,>2500 Ma),with the number of new provinc.s in whic. age peaks are represented dec.easing with time within eac. *** breaks between the populations(at 2.5 Ga and 1 Ga)fall near the onsets of two transitions in Earth *** First Transition may represent a c.ange from stagnant-lid tec.onic. into plate tec.onic. and the Sec.nd Transition,the onset of subduc.ion of c.ntinental *** maj.r fac.or c.ntrolling geographic.distribution of age peaks is the c.anging loc.tions of ***^2 Ga,age subpeaks and peaks are housed in orogens within or around the edges of c.ustal provinc.s,mostly in ac.retionary *** beginning at 1.9 Ga,c.llisional orogens bec.me more *** c.inc.denc. in duration

The c.mbined effec.s of thermal and mass c.nvec.ion of visc.us inc.m- pressible and immisc.ble fluids through a vertic.l wavy wall and a smooth flat wall are analyzed. The dimensionless governing equations are perturbed into a mean part （the zeroth-order） and a perturbed part （the first-order）. The first-order quantities are ob- tained by the perturbation series expansion for short wavelength, in whic. the terms of the exponential order arise. The analytic.l expressions for the zeroth-order, the first-order, and the total solutions are obtained. The numeric.l c.mputations are presented graph- ic.lly to show the salient features of the fluid flow and the heat transfer c.arac.eristic.. Separate solutions are matc.ed at the interfac. by using suitable matc.ing c.nditions. The shear stress and the Nusselt number are also analyzed for variations of the governing parameters. It is observed that the Grashof number, the visc.sity ratio, the width ratio, and the c.nduc.ivity ratio promote the veloc.ty parallel to the flow direc.ion. A reversal effec. is observed for the veloc.ty perpendic.lar to the flow direc.ion.

A novel c.ystal c.arac.erization instrument has been built up in whic. a c.mbination of X-ray multiple diffrac.ion and X-ray topography is applied to enabling the c.oss-c.rrelation between mic.o-c.ystallographic.symmetry and its spatial dependenc. in relation to lattic. defec.s. This fac.lity is used to examine, in a self-c.nsistent manner, growth sec.or-dependant c.anges to both the c.ystallographic.struc.ure and the lattic. defec.s assoc.ated with the ac.ion of habit-modifying additives in a number of representative c.ystal growth systems. In addition, the new instrument c.n be used to probe mic.o-c.ystallographic.aspec.s(suc. as distortion to c.ystal symmetry) and relate these in a spatially resolved manner to the c.ystal defec. struc.ure in c.ystals doped with known habit modifiers.

A theoretic.l investigation c.nc.rning the influenc. of slip veloc.ty on the flow of blood through an artery having its wall permeable has been c.rried out. Here blood is treated as a homogeneous Newtonian fluid. The flow is c.arac.erized by three parameters： /3 the ratio of radius to length of the arterial segment, Re the c.arac.eristic.Reynolds number assoc.ated with the pressure outside the arterial segment and c.the filtration c.e^c.ent. The problem has been solved by the use of a perturbation tec.nique, e is c.nsidered to be very small, ensuring the validity of the perturbation method. The c.mputed numeric.l results are presented graphic.lly to depic. the variations in veloc.ty, volumetric.flow rate, wall shear stress and flow resistanc..
