Duodenitis in Systemic Autoimmune Diseases: Pathologist Perspective

Aims: To study the histomorphology of duodenitis associated with systemic autoimmune diseases with clinicopathologic correlation. Patients and Methods: This is a descriptive prospective study. Fifteen patients of autoimmune diseases with duodenitis were included. Informed consent was taken. Histomorphological parameters studied were villous architecture, crypt architecture, intraepithelial lymphocyte (IEL) count per 100 enterocytes, villous tip IEL count per 20 enterocytes were counted, inflammatory cells in lamina propria—lymphocytes, neutrophils, eosinophils, epithelioid cells. Statistical analysis was done using IBM-SPSS software version 21. Results: Fifteen cases of duodenitis associated with autoimmune diseases included 6 patients of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), 5 of rheumatoid arthritis, one each of ankylosing spondylitis, systemic sclerosis, dermatomyositis and seronegative reactive arthritis. All these cases were serologically proven. Only 3 (20%) patients had mild villous blunting. Six patients (46.7%) had increased IEL counts. The range of IELs was 8 - 30, mean ± SD was 14 ± 7.6. Range of villous tip IELs was 0 - 8 with mean ± SD of 3.45 ± 2.56. Six patients (46.7%) had increased IEL counts but only 3 patients (20%) had increased villous tip IELs. All patients had moderate increase in lymphoplasmacytic infiltrate in lamina propria. Eosinophils in lamina propria were increased in 46.7% cases.? conclusion: One of the causes for malabsorptive conditions in adult population in South India is found to be duodenitis associated with autoimmune conditions. We conclude that a combination of clinical, serological, endoscopic and histopathologic features is crucial in arriving at a correct diagnosis.

BAcKGROUNDNon-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a systemic disease with bidirectionalrelationships with cardiovascular disease (cVD). After adjusting for traditional risk factors,NASH conferred greater odds of MI odds ratio (OR) 1.5 [95% confidence interval(cI): 1.40-1.62]. Hyperlipidemia had the strongest association with MI OR 8.39(95%cI: 8.21-8.58) followed by hypertension OR 3.11 (95%cI: 3.05-3.17) andsmoking OR 2.83 (95%cI: 2.79-2.87). NASH had a similar association with MI asthe following traditional risk factors like age above 65 years OR 1.47 (95%cI: 1.45-1.49), male gender OR 1.53 (95%cI: 1.51-1.55) diabetes mellitus OR 1.89 (95%cI:1.86-1.91).cONcLUSIONMI appears to be a prevalent disease in NASH. Patients with NASH may needearly identification and aggressive cardiovascular risk modification.

Solar cell technology comes with unique temperature coefficients. These temperature coefficients are important and temperature of the solar cell has direct influence on the power output of a photovoltaic cells. cdTe is a very robust and chemically stable material and for this reason its related solar cell. Thin film photovoltaic technology is now the only thin film technology in the first top 10 producers in the world. The strong improvement in efficiency in the last 7 years was obtained by a new redesign of the cdTe solar cell device reaching a single solar cell. In this paper, we describe the fabrication process following the history of the solar cell as it was developed in the early years up to the latest development and changes. The configuration of fabricated cell is n-cdTe/NaOH (0.15 M) + S (0.15 M) + Na2S (0.15 M)/c(graphite). The junction ideality factor was found to be 2.63, 2.13, and 1.89. The flat band potential is found to be -0.400, -0.450, -0.501 V. The barrier height value was found to be 0.523, 0.487, and 0.436 eV. The study of power output characteristic shows open circuit voltage, short circuit current, fill factor and efficiency were found to be 120 mV, 24.2 μA, 32.68%, 26.18%, and 19.73% and 0.63%, 0.37%, and 0.23%, respectively. The lighted ideality factor was calculated and found to be 3.26, 1.87, and 1.17. Spectra attain maximum value of current at λ = 580 nm and decrease with increase in wavelength. The photovoltaic cell characterization of the thin films is carried out by studying current-voltage characteristics in dark, capacitance-voltage in dark, barrier height measurements, power output characteristics.

Fatigue is a major issue concerning the use of aluminium composites in structural applications. Fatigue leads to weakening of material majorly due to the strain bands formed in the material when it is subjected to repeated loading;the damage that occurs due to fatigue is a progressive and localized one. The fatigue may occur at a stress limit much lesser than the ultimate stress limit of the composite specimen. Henceforth in the current work, fatigue behaviour of silicon carbide and fly ash dispersion strengthened high performance hybrid Al 5083 metal matrix composites are evaluated. The main purpose of fatigue characterisation is to distinctly evaluate the life cycle of components that are fabricated from metal matrix composites and eventually develop a framework model for the significant study of fatigue strength of the structure with persistent striations all along the interstitials of aluminium- silicon carbide-fly ash interfaces. Fatigue is a stochastic process rather than a deterministic one that gives a considerable scatter, even among samples of similar composition with the tests carried out in some of the critically controlled environments. Hence there is a need for statistical validation of the results to authenticate the data collected. Thus in the current work, analysis of variance is carried out to establish the authenticity of the results and validate them. The results and plots are presented with suitable rationale and inferences.

The entrance region flow of a Herschel-Bulkley fluid in an annular cylinder has been investigated numerically without making prior assumptions on the form of velocity profile within the boundary layer region. This velocity distribution is determined as part of the procedure by cross sectional integration of the momentum differential equation for a given distance z from the channel entrance. Using the macroscopic mass and momentum balance equation, the entrance length at each cross section of the entrance region of the annuli and pressure distribution have been calculated for specific values of Herschel-Bulkley number and various values of aspect ratio and flow behavior index. The effects of non-Newtonian characteristics and channel width on the velocity profile, pressure distribution and the entrance length have been discussed.

The genus Ovatoryctocara Tchernysheva,1962,and its key species Ovatoryctocara granulata Tchernysheva,1962,are revised. Ovatoryctocara granulata occurs near the base of the Ovatoryctocara Zone and ranges up into the lower portion of the Kounamkites Zone in the Siberian Platform. O. granulata also appears in southeastern Guizhou,South china,but O. granulata in northern Greenland may represent an indefinite species. Specimens of Ovatoryctocara from Newfoundland cannot be identified to species level. Specimens includ-ing two cranidia and three pygidia from the lower part of the Aoxi Formation at Yaxi Village,Shizhu Town,eastern Tongren,north-eastern Guizhou,were previously assigned to O. granulata,which is now reassigned as a new species O. yaxiensis sp. nov. It bears the following main features: glabella club-shaped,slightly expanded medially,with four pairs of lateral furrows,of which S1-S3 are trian-gular pits,S4 is shallow,connecting with axial furrow; shorter palpebral lobe situated a little anterior to the midway of facial suture across the fixigenae,longer posterolateral area (exsag.); semielliptical pygidium consisting of seven axial rings with a terminal piece and with eight pairs of marginal tips giving a sawtooth-like shape of the lateral margins in dorsal view. Although O. granulata is a widely distributed species,the FAD of O. granulata,for a global stage boundary,still has some disadvantages. First,its distribution is not as wide as that of Oryctocephalus indicus (Reed,1910). Second,specimens of O. granulata are common only in Siberia. Third,the strati-graphic range of the species has not been studied in detail in all continents. Fourth,O. granulata is relatively small and easily affected by post-burial distortion. Last but not least,there exists obviously a facies change between the Ovatoryctocara Zone (lower Amgan Stage; deeper water facies) and the underlying Anabaraspis splendens Zone (Toyonian Stage; shallow water facies) in Siberian Platform. Titanium alloys are extensively used in various fields of engineering, medicine, aerospace, marine due to its excellent mechanical properties. Its usage is more pronounced today in the field of biomedical implants due to its superior bio-compatibility, corrosive resistance and high strength to weight ratio. It has poor abrasive wear resistance due to high coefficient of friction and low thermal conductivity. Poor abrasive wear resistance results in the formation of wear debris at the implant area causing toxicity, inflammation and pain .Surface treatment of the implant alloy through heat treatment, application of protective coatings, introduction of compressive residual stresses by shotpeening and shot blasting are some of the methods to mitigate wear of the implant alloy. In this work Ti-6Al-4V implant alloy is treated under various conditions of heat treatment, shotpeening and shot blasting operations on a pin on disc wear testing machine. Shotpeening and Shot blasting are the operations usually performed on this alloy to improve fatigue strength and surface roughness. In this work the effect of above surface treatments were studied on the wear behavior of Ti-6Al-4V implant alloy and an improvement in the wear resistance of the alloy is reported. Scanning Electron micrograph (SEM) along with Energy Dispersive Spectrometry analysis (EDS) is done to authenticate the experimental results obtained during the wear testing procedure.

Highly crystalline ZSM-5 zeolites are important for para-selective alkylation of alkyl aromatics, because they carry few external acid sites for isomerization of p-dialkyl products. Such zeolites (Si/Al = 25, 50, and 75) were synthesized in a fluoride medium between pH 4 and 6. Their crystallinities, crystal sizes, and surface areas were higher than those of a commercial ZSM-5 zeolite. Their para selectivities in alkylation were tested for vapor-phase tert-butylation of ethylbenzene between 200 and 400 °c. As expected, all the catalysts showed more than 90% para selectivity. At 300 °c, ethylbenzene conversion decreased in the order ZSM-5(25, commercial) > ZSM-5(25) > ZSM-5(50) > ZSM-5(75). The catalysts had weak, medium, and strong acid sites, but all the acid sites of ZSM-5(75) were weaker than those of ZSM-5(25) and ZSM-5(50). The high activity of commercial ZSM-5 was caused by its strong acid sites being stronger than those of the synthesized zeolites. Although the activity of the commercial catalyst was higher than those of the present catalysts, the selectivity for 4-t-butylethylbenzene (4-t-BEB) was low. The optimum feed ratio (ethylbenzene:t-butyl alcohol) was 2:1 and the feed rate was 1.65 h?1 for high ethylbenzene conversion and 4-t-BEB selectivity. Time-on-stream studies showed slow catalyst deactivation. Highly crystalline ZSM-5 zeolites are therefore better than a commercial zeolite for para-selective alkylation of alkyl aromatics. They do not require much post-modification for high para selectivity. A fluoride medium is therefore better than an alkaline medium for obtaining highly crystalline para-selective ZSM-5 zeolites.
