For decades the ecologists are using the same methods in order to determine the environmental health of a community,however,the crescent need on defining how these processes act,triggered the development of new methods that could classify the organisms and their function at the *** we used the anuran larvae to understand the effects of an environmental gradient on the structure and organization of the anuran assemblages along it,and to access in a realistic form,the actual state of preservation of the la rgest remnant of Atlantic Rainforest on the Southernmost portion of *** found that despite the higher diversity of species and the conservation unit status of the place,the ecosystem itself is still in danger,given the low number of functional groups and thus a higher number of ecosystem services that can be lost.

The liver is a complex organ that performs several functions to maintain *** functions are modulated by calcium,a second messenger that regulates several intracellular *** hepatocytes and cholangiocytes,which are the epithelial cell types in the liver,inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate(InsP3)receptors(ITPR)are the only intracellular calcium release *** isoforms of the ITPR have been described,named type 1,type 2 and type *** ITPR isoforms are differentially expressed in liver cells where they regulate distinct physiological *** in the expression level of these receptors correlate with several liver diseases and hepatic *** this review,we highlight how the expression level,modulation,and localization of ITPR isoforms in hepatocytes and cholangiocytes play a role in hepatic homeostasis and liver pathology.

Propolis has been used worldwide for years in folk medicine and currently marketed by the pharmaceutical industry. In Brazil, propolis was classified into 13 groups based on their organoleptics and physicochemical characteristics. The 13th type named red propolis has been an important source of investigation since late 90s. Their property comes from the countless compounds, including terpenes, pterocarpans, prenylated benzophenones and especially the flavonoids. This last compound class has been indicated as the responsible for its potent pharmacological actions, highlighting the antimicrobial, antiinflammatory, antioxidant, healing and antiproliferative activities. The red propolis can also be found in other countries, especially cuba, which has similar features as the Brazilian. Therefore, with the compilation of 80 papers, this review aims to provide a key reference for researchers interested in natural products and discovery of new active compounds, such as from propolis.

In areas highly affected by anthropogenic disturbances,artificial(human-made)freshwater ecosystems can provide habitat for maintaining and conserving regional freshwater *** assessed how the physical habitat of artificial ponds affected the structure of benthic macroinvertebrate *** do so,we tested two hypotheses.(1)Physical habitat disturbances are not detrimental to the diversity of nearby artificial ponds,and(2)Physical habitat disturbances do not cause significant shifts in taxonomic *** results rejected both null hypotheses,i.e.,macroinvertebrate diversity metrics correlated significantly and positively with Physical Habitat Integrity index scores,and only sites with high habitat condition scores were significantly associated with sensitive indicator *** results highlight the importance of maintaining physical habitat conditions for sustaining the ecological health of artificial ponds.

This paper presents the consultation process and public participation in the construction of Salto caxias Hydroelectric Power Plant, in southern Brazil, and details how the actions taken during these processes helped to implement with success the resettlement of approximately 900 families of rural works, that had to give up their land allowing the formation of the reservoir, and the economical development plan designed for the region at that time, called PROcAXIAS, that is currently being carried out creating jobs, helping to recover the economy of the region somehow stagnant since the early 1980’s.

Objective: To evaluate the antibacterial activity and neuroprotective capacity of the ethanolic and aqueous extracts of Tarenaya spinosa(T. spinosa) as well as to determine and quantify some of its polyphenols by high performance liquid chromatography with diode-array detection(HPLc-DAD). Methods: The bacterial Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains, grown in Heart Agar Infusion, were tested. The drugs gentamicin, norfloxacin and imipenem were used to evaluate the modulating or antagonistic capacity of the T. spinosa extracts. The extract was analysed by HPLc-DAD to determine the main phenolic compounds. For the cell viability tests, individual heads of the Nauphoeta cinerea arthropod model were removed, homogenized in Trifluoromethyl ketone and centrifuged afterwards. Subsequently, 20 μL of NaN O2 were added to the biological material, except in the control group, to evaluate the protection capacity of the extracts. The homogenate of the insect heads was incubated for 2 h in tubes containing tetrazolium bromide. Results: HPLc-DAD demonstrated that the ethanolic extract of T. spinosa presented caffeic acid as the major compound. The ethanolic extract also showed neuroprotective effects at concentrations ≥ 10 μg/mL, while aqueous extract was shown to have a protective effect only at the concentration of 100 μg/mL. The aqueous extract demonstrated a clinically relevant antibacterial activity against the Staphylococcus aureus multidrug resistant strain-MDR, with MIc 512 μg/m L. However, when the extracts were associated with gentamicin and imipenem, a synergism was detected against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli MDR strains. conclusions: Although it does not present an antibacterial action, the extracts of T. spinosa can be used in the pharmaceutical industries since its extracts show modulating action of drugs. Besides, these natural products have neuroprotective capacity.

The aim of this work was to evaluate arbuscular mycorrhizal(AM)fungi as soil indicators and the mycorrhization of native and exotic tree species planted in the Acaraúbasin,a transition area from the coast to the Brazilian semiarid *** with 6-year-old trees of four native and three non-native species as well as one non-forested area were evaluated in terms of the diversity of AM fungi in the mycorrhizosphere and the root colonization by AM and ectomycorrhizal(EcM)***-four AM fungi were identified;claroideoglomus etunicatum,Glomus sinuosum,Paraglomus albidum,Acaulospora laevis,and Acaulospora brasiliensis were abundant in the forest ***,dominance,evenness and richness indices of AM fungi were higher in plots with native *** root samples were colonized by AM fungi and only A nadenanthera colubrina,Acacia mangium,casuarina equisetifolia and Eucalyptus urophylla formed associations with EcM *** morphotypes served as soil indicators for coverings with the native species Astronium fraxinifolium and colubrina *** species may favor the proliferation of rarer AM *** fungi–plant relationships may be important in the management of forest systems,and the evidence with mycorrhizal associations allows the inclusion of Brazilian species in tropical reforestation.

BAcKGROUND The uncertainties about coronavirus disease 2019(cOVID-19),the change in routine,lifestyles and the reduction of physical contact can cause stress,anxiety,emotional overload,poor sleep and even physical health *** To evaluate the scientific publications available on the relationship between cOVID-19 and anxiety experienced in the general population,during the period of social isolation,adopted by governmental organizations and public health policymakers as a measure to contain the spread of *** A literature search was performed systematically exploring the PubMed and Medline databases using the following terms classified as MeSH descriptors:(“anxiety”AND“pandemic”AND“cOVID-19”).For the search,in the Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde–BVS,***,Web of Science and National Library plat forms, the following keywords were used: ("anxiety" AND "coronavirus" AND"social isolation"). Thirty-seven peer-reviewed articles were found. PRISMA andthe Downs & Black checklist were used for qualitative *** applying the inclusion criteria, seven (n = 7) original scientific articles wereselected. The collated evidence demonstrated increased levels of symptoms ofanxiety and depression during the period of social isolation. The populationbetween 21 to 40 years was most affected. The risk of severe depression was twiceas high at the epicenter of the pandemic. The recently discovered metal-intercalated iron selenide superconductors A2Fe4Se5 （A=K, cs, T1- K, Rb, T1-Rb）（245） compounds, with Tc ～30K, have attracted much interest A high transition- temperature （TN ≈ 470-560K） and large magnetic moment （3.3μB/Fe） block antiferromagnetic （AFM） order exists in the superconducting samples. Mag- netic order-parameter experiences an anomaly when Tc is approached. The superconductors crystal- lize with a highly ordered √5 × √5 superstructure, in which the Fel site of the I4/m structure is only a few percents occupied and the Fe2 site is fully occupied. The non-superconducting samples at low-T also crystallize in the I4/m structure, while both Fe sites are fractionally occupied, since the numbers of the Fe vacancies in the samples and the vacant sites in the √5 × √5 pattern are mismatched. The partially ordered √5× √5 vacancy order becomes one of three competing phases for temperature below room temperature up to ～ 500K, namely, these sam- ples are phase-separated and in the miscibility gap 1lacier the n,mhi^nt condition.
